Brombil Reservoir & Margam Radar Station

In this Vlog I set out to visit Brombil Reservoir on Mynydd Brombil, near Margam. This hidden valley and reservoir is popular with locals but remains a hidden Gem in South Wales.
My walk then continues on to Margam Radar Station which was part of the World War II Chain Home Low radar network used to detect shipping and low flying aircraft in the Bristol Channel. This unexpected viewpoint offers amazing views over Margam and Port Talbot.
My journey ends at the atmospheric remains of a Cistercian monastery above Margam Park.

Looks like a really good walk, I have looked up at that radar structure so many times from the M4. I didn't realise there was so much to see up there. Thanks for sharing.

Used to run up to the resevoir every week , part of the physical ed for Duffryn school. Remember those freezing cold winter runs, lungs burning lol. Went swimming in there as a boy took my scuba mask with me found a couple of dead sheep down the bottom and many 45gallon drums which freaked me out. It was Summertime but the water was freezing and my arms started to cramp up badly. Had to just kick my legs to get to the other side but smashed by mask trying to get out of the water as I could not move my arms. Young and dumb, surprised I have lived so long with the stupid stuff I have done, makes me cringe now lol. My grandmother told me she lost her brother up there, he drowned when swimming, think he got too close to the outlet and got pulled under in the reeds.

Great story mate! Fair play sounds far better than my physical Ed and a few laps of the running track ha. Thanks for watching.

Hey Jay! Hope you are well! We are back to posting videos and need to catch up on the videos that we missed! Wow, that reservoir is SO BLUE! Yes, I have heard that you should not swim in them! Not Safe! Stunning Place though, drone shots are amazing! We enjoyed the whole video! Hope you are well!

Thanks guys. Yeah it's been a while for me posting as well lately due to travel restrictions. Yea most of the Resevoirs in Wales have deadly underwater machinery and pumps so I'd never advise going in despite how gorgeous they look. Thanks again. Hope your doing well?

Love brombil as it is a stunning place. Just wondering how you got on the path that leads up from brombil to the hill top going to margam park. Is it at the start or do you have to walk all the way round to get there? Many thanks

Such amazing views! It's as the walk continues up from the residential area and over the bridge the path then splits. Sharp left takes you up the path to the top of the hill or right over the river takes you to the bottom of the resevoir. The left turn is just above where you cross the river then follow the track up the mountain. Hope that helps

Great minds think alike! I did try but the sensors kept going off due to its proximity to the wall so I chickened out! 😄😄😅

@@JayCurtis damn those censors.. you can turn them off.. obstacle sensors. I had the same problem trying to fly my DJi Mavic Air 2 out the porch window in Vegas..
