I rode my electric Brompton along the St. Lawrence Seaway Trail in Ontario, Rhine, Rhone, Moselle, and many , many other trails in Europe ...It is old now but I still use it to go back and forth to my stored RV so I don’t need to leave a car behind...I love my lime green Brompton...
I got so excited to see a mention of the Confederation Trail on PEI. I had wanted to cycle it, but the youngest balked, so it had to be put off until he was older, and we simply visited and drove to the sights instead. The time is soon coming when my husband and I can cycle to our heart's content and I'm so looking forward to it. The Confederation Trail is on my bucket list. I love the way you did it, having one central spot to stay and cycling around the trail from that spot. I would truly love a website with the places you've cycled, the routes you've taken, your favourite places to stay and sights to see...as well as those to avoid. In these last years of preparation, I've become an information sponge. It's all so helpful.
Hi Keeley. We have no plans to start a website (RU-vid is more fun!), but are happy to answer any questions about our travels. The Confederation Trail is peaceful and easy, not to be mistaken for a challenge for experienced cyclists. It was our first tour in 20 months due to local travel restrictions, and we were happy to vacation in what was probably the safest place in North America. We drove from Montreal to PEI, stayed in a central spot there to make our lives simpler, and used our car to transport ourselves and our Bromptons to our starting point each day. That could mean that, in effect, we would do the entire trail twice, cycling a back-and-forth over each segment. Instead, we experimented with a more efficient way to tour, by touring separately. Every day, we would drive to our planned “endpoint” of the day, drop off one of us while the other drove on to our “start point”. We would cycle towards each other, meet for a picnic lunch at our halfway point, then carry on each in our direction until the one heading to the start point reached the car. Fold the bike and hop in to drive to the endpoint and pick up the other. We both cycled the entire trail but in opposite directions! We also both drove the length of the province. This method worked out really well for us, but we recommend it only to independent cyclists who have spent the past year and a half basically 24/7 together. However, we recommend the Confederation Trail to anyone who wants a pleasant cycling holiday.

I suppose a couple of questions I have are: What has been your most favourite cycling holiday and why? What are some things are "must takes" or "must not takes" for cycling holidays? (Apart from the obvious: the bike and the kitchen sink respectively =D)
We prefer: Mostly dedicated cycle paths, less road sharing Clear route indications Little elevation gain With folders, it’s usually easy to get to a starting point by public transit. Among our favorites, the following are suitable for both folding and full-size bikes: In North America: Gap & C&O (Pittsburgh ->Washington), 550 km Le p’tit train du Nord (near Montreal), 300 km Western Europe: Paris to London, Avenue Verte 400 km Vélodyssée (France), 1200 km La Loire (France), 330 km Asia: Korea’s Four Rivers, 700 km We have very brief “music videos” as souvenirs of these trips, except Le p’tit train, which we covered in day trips. OK, this is super relevant. I’ve ridden part of this trail. My wife and I wanted to do the whole thing like you did, in sections each day. It’s a nice trail, but had some rough spots on the section we did. There is a small Brompton dealer a 1/4 mile from our current home now. I’m on the list to get called when/if they ever get a Brompton in.
In some sections, the crushed rock surface was almost like sand, making progress with the Brompton’s small wheels a little bit harder than we would have liked. Other than that, we didn’t have any problem.
The problem is… except the tote bag, all others seems not good looking enough to carry around off the bic. Though no one dare leave their bic outside on street
Thanks for sharing. I have also watched your video about flying with Brompton bikes. I would ask have you ever tried to take them as carry-on luggage to cabin? If not, why dont you prefer? Isnt it possible?
Hi Ahmet. While some have been successful in storing Bromptons in overhead bins, our recent flight experiences (pre-covid that is) usually involved full planes where carry-on storage was at a premium. More than once, we ended up having to shove our bags under the seat in front of us as no more space was available in the overhead bin. Experience with gate check-in wasn’t too enjoyable either, as we ended up having to pick up our baggage on the same conveyor belt as the checked-in luggage at the end of the flight (thus it had been tossed around as casually by baggage handlers as any other items). Successfully travelling with a “carry-on” Brompton is certainly worthy of a Instagram post and offers some bragging rights to the lucky passenger, but we wouldn’t rely on such a strategy to begin a long-awaited enjoyable vacation.
@@2Bikes4Adventure Hi, sincere thanks for sharing your experience! After watching your "3 Ways to Fly with your Brompton Bike" video I am planning to go with the "ikea bag" option. If possible I will take it to the cabin overhead bin (brompton covered with cloth and in ikea dimpa bag but without cardboards so it can fit in the overhead bin). If they dont let me to do that I am planning to go back to the check-in and do the "ikea bag" option with cardboards and mats to give it to the checked-in luggage. If you ever come to Turkey, please let me know, you have a big fan out here.
@@ahmetsezgin8876 We were scheduled to cycle in Turkey in 2020, but travel restrictions forced us to postponed to a later date. Hope to have the chance eventually. Any place in particular you recommend?
