Brilliant Bikes I’ve recently bought 2 x sets of these lightweight pedals from you, one set for my 2023 CHPT3 Brompton and the other for my older 2018 CHPT3. They were really easy to fit and are a comfy foot position. My bikes are now even more nimble. Thank you for stocking them 👍
Great video. I would suggest anti seize compound, not grease, for the pedal threads when installing to the cranks. Grease would be ok, but the general rule with bikes is to use anti seize compound for things very rarely taken apart (so bottom bracket, headsets too).
I've got a Birthday next month and each year my wife get's a bit short with me when I tell her I don't want anything. This year we've both got places in the BWC so I've sent her a link to these pedals in your shop. " Graham " my 2019 CHPT3 will be sporting a pair of these 😎
Another fantastically quirky and fascinating piece of Brompton engineering. The pedal mounts behind the brake? Another one for John Cleese. How wonderful this company exists and keeps doing such strange and unique things.
Thanks for that. I'd like to see how the pedal is released from its "storage" position and how secure it is. Whilst I like the idea behind the engineering, I don't think the 100g saving warrants the worry of potentially losing a pedal from its "sticky-outy" storage position. Call me cynical, but I think there's going to be a demand for non drive side removable pedals (pedal only, not crank mounted receptor)..
So far so good and not lost! It’s just a magnet. Let’s let’s see how it last! On value I dot think it’s too bad considering a standard set of pedals is £66
Superb video again, thank you! I've had a standard folding pedal bearing give up in the past, these seem to be not only lighter but I'd be interested to see if they have a longer service life because of the design differences. Happy Easter to you all!
That's some excellent ventriloquism (is that a word?) at 3m16s! I was kind of hoping they'd have used the MKS Ezy system for these (for compatibility's sake), but I see they've gone a different route. Any thoughts on how their release mechanism compares to the MKS one? I had an MKS pedal fall out just after I set off once (which was a very quick way to reach the tarmac, hard), but it was my fault as I was thinking about something else when I fitted the pedal and didn't get the twisty collar seated properly. I think Brompton's pedal holder looks a bit more practical than the MKS one. Cunning.
Very good video as usual, thank you. I'd like to know the dimensions of the foot plate of the pedals to compare with the original Brompton pedals. All the quick release options seem to be shorter, especially as they stick out from the bicycle.
Hello, Interesting modification... Thanks for sharing. I like that you use the torque wrench most of the time, so many people do parts up far to tight. Is there somewhere I can get all the recommended torque settings for all the Brompton component part. Take care. Paul,,
I've just bought these and had them fitted at your shop. The fixed pedal seems rather stiff. It doesn't spin very freely. Can it be loosened so to rotate easier, or is it a faulty pedal?
@@brilliantbikes Oh, sorry, I didn't mean that my bike is literally 10 years old. I bought it new in 2012. It has been completely re-built and re-configured several times over the years. I have no idea if anything about the brakes are original! I'm taking it into Brompton Covent Garden for a service next month, so I'll just ask them about compatibility with the superlight pedals, although it seems they no longer sell them.
Hi H thanks for the video...... i am currently using Tiworkshop QR pedals.. but it got STUCK on the crank!!! i wonder if you guys know a way to remove it I wonder if Brompton's version will get stuck after cycling on a very dusty and dirty road.....
If there was a SPD version then I’d be interested otherwise no. I shall stick with my Shimano XTR pedals. It’s a tiny inconvenience to have the non drive side pedal sticking out when folded.
I agree. I reckon Brompton engineers missed a trick here. They could have made a one sided SPD, which wouldn’t have reduced the versatility of the bike, but would also have satisfied those of us who are used to being clipped in and powering through the full cycle. Like you, I use Shimano MTB pedals with the (small) inconvenience of a pedal sticking out on the non-drive side when folded.

The pedals will fit the cranks, but the adapter to hold the removable pedal at the back of the fork will more work on the older fork / brake style Thanks for watching!
Was able to get a 2nd hand pair but did not come with the holder haha anyone knows if the QR pedal fits on those thirdparty holders meant for MKS QR pedals?
Having both quick release would of been better one thinks , not at all trying to peddle my idea being in competition with Brompton’s ideas, should we have a song = I think we should = Life Is Heavy = Topshelf Mexican.
05:44 Do I spy a hairline scratch on the red paint already? I’d’ve thought Brompton would’ve included these pedals in the already high price of the Chpt3 / T-Line rather than make them extras, especially as they’re marketing brags about their light weights. Also, isn’t that Turkish Green plastic cover over the chain pusher mechanism supposed to be removed from the bike?
Epic timing. I was just thinking about lightening the peddles. It seems the RH non-folding superlight peddle is not really lighter than its regular counterpart, so it would seem to be only necessary to replace the LH, folding, one and save yourself the work on replacing both.
It looks like the pedal holder needs a brake with a recessed bolt… Not the kind that is held on by a Nyloc nut. Looks like I’ve saved money if not weight 😂 (mine’s a 2009 S6L)
Here’s a link to the product brilliantbikes.co.uk/brompton-pedals/5424-brompton-superlight-quick-release-pedals.html?search_query=Superlight&results=41 We generally stay away from the price due to different countries
Ya wan't super light pedals? Then Ti Parts titanium pedals are your real one's.167 grams, giving you nearly 250 grams weight saving. You need small feet though. There is nothing super light about Brompton, unless you drop 4 big one's on a T line.
@@brilliantbikes Just Google Ti parts and you should find the link. I'm over 100kg and have big feet so I'll make do and mend with my 2 speed, unvarnished with lighter goodies.
