I was prescribed Zithromax just now. Hope it really helps. I'm 59 yro and suffered from TB 2years ago. My doctor never informed me I had bronchiectasis, he just prescribed me antibiotics. I found out by googling that it had the signs of my disease... and then he confirms I have bronchiectasis. 😩 Great talk, Dr. Been!

Bronchiectesis itself is a problem due to abnormal dilation then why would bronchodilators be a treatment option ?

Is it true? That A patient diagnosed with chronic bronchitis, develop bronchiectasis if become victim of any infection then??? Can that scenerio happen? TIA😊

Dr Alisha Talpur Good question. Lecturers flowchart suggests infection can cause inflammation and destruction (IL-1 TNF-a mediated) however in acute bronchitis this is pathogen mediated, chronic bronchitis is smoking/silica dust mediated, however virus can be latent-recurrent infections, but typically localised to protective meningines of CNS and mutant species. I guess the lecturer assumes with chronic infection > chronic inflammation > epithelial destruction > loss of protective mechanisms (mucociliary escalator) > increase susceptibility to acute infection/opportunistic bacteria > innate neutrophil & macrophage NETs/hydrogen peroxide/ O2 radicals + pathogen virulence (toxin production, cell lysis) > bronchiectasis & necrosis super imposed chronic infection ~ comorbities? Needs further clarification
