If a highly recruited high school prospect going to a high-major Division 1 school gets a heart condition, that alone would make headlines. If that same athlete came back, gave it his all for the rest of the season, and then went to the combine and showed out against highly touted prospects, you best believe their draft stock would skyrocket. The comeback story would write itself, and the athlete would be put close to the top easily. Rose tinted shades and all for them. But because he’s the son of arguably the greatest player of all time, this pathway is one of the worst possible outcomes for someone expected to be greater. He is under an immense microscope, and if he makes a wrong step, modern media won’t hesitate to destroy his image and convince the masses of his wasted potential. I’m not saying that this situation is great; he has a lot of work to do. But he deserves a LOT more credit than most are willing to give him, and it’s amazing he got this far with the amount of criticism that having the James name brings.
