As promised, here is Part 2 of our "Broody Hen vs Incubated Eggs series." Wow mama we ended up with a lot of chicks!!! We have two broody hens that added chicks to our flock & we also successfully incubated several eggs from our coop.
In today's video, Joe ever so gently saved several chicks, as they were stuck and couldn't get out of their shells. Can this be successful? Absolutely! We've saved many chicks along the way just like this!
I'm also going to show you how we transition our incubated chicks into the main flock.

Fun! Interesting how the instincts come out, ebb, and return again. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed the time spent watching how it all played out. Joe is indeed a gentle soul helping those struggling chicks get shut of those shells. I see omelettes in your future...LOL.

We had an excellent mama hen several years when I was a kid. My parents would donate eggs to her from all the lazy birds. She even hatched and raised duck and turkey chicks alongside her own. It's easier than tending an incubator (if you have a good sitter).

Angela! That is so cute...she'd even lay on duck & turkey eggs? Now that's dedication right there. :) Our little black hen is kind of like that as you saw in the video...she never ends up hatching her own eggs but she'll gather up everyone else's lol! They're so funny. I'm amazed at their mothering instincts and how protective they are. It's fascinating.

Awesome part 2 guys! they are all just so adorable. I've been told we should let them hatch on their own but after 22-23 days then to help them after that. I admit though, I've done it too in order to save them. It's hard seeing little ones not make it. As for the turkey's That's my next endeavor. I haven't raised them yet. Thank you so much! We had fun doing the chick videos! It's something we do each yr to keep the flock numbers up so I thought maybe somebody would like to see it. :) And I agree with you...I mean if they're not going to make it without help...then why not help them? Plus...we have a really good success rate with the ones that we have to help, growing up to be healthy layers. Thanks for the congrats too!
