If she doesn't think they knew what they were doing here, I'm guessing she was taken advantage of a whole lot more throughout her life... The lies we tell ourselves.
She probably got paid millions of dollars for this not to mention CK is a pretty iconic brand worldwide my opinion she probably doesn't want to burn bridges unnecessarily
Royal S No. When people say that they mean they are trying so hard to be grown when they are already about to be there it’s like why rush what’s about to come anyway
She's upset now looking back. I read her response recently and she knows they took advantage of her when they figured out where and how to market using her. This needs to be completely discussed
I remember being 18-19 years old and getting Vidal Sasson jeans that were about to 2 sizes too small and lying on my bed to get them to zip up. Oh the late 1970's.
Needle nosed pliers were how you zipped your designer jeans, which were always at least 2 sizes too small...then someone had to pull you to your feet because you were literally encased in cement, lol
The 1:06 commercial, her open legged pose and the “nothing comes between” line is overtly sexual. They made a sex symbol out of a young girl. But, boy, she was definitely one of the most gorgeous girls of the early 80s!
I find it disturbing that in her latest book she talks about how 'ridiculous and insane' the media was for assuming these commercials had sexual undertones...and that there was nothing sexual about them. Although, she does admit that it would hurt to think the writers were taking advantage of her without her knowledge. I find it hard to believe how neither she nor her mom could not see how some of the positions, situations, and statements would not be considered as such. Even looking at it today it doesn't seem completely innocent. She goes on defending the commercials saying no one took notice of the great literature, social and political references etcetera included in these "well conceived" commercials. I was a teen at the time and these commercials always got our attention ...well it certainly stopped the boys in their tracks. I wonder if their isn't just a little denial there on her part.
Well she posed nude for playboy when she was 10, I think it's safe to say they either SUCK at noticing when something is obviously sexual or they just simply don't care.
***** Yes I'm sure her mother had a different way of thinking, as for Brooke, she was a child who loved her mother...I do think she is clearly conflicted as she tried later in life to get those nude photos of her blocked....apparently the court agreed with her mother and didn't find anything sexual or pornographic about them and she lost her case against the photographer who had the rights to them....I'm sure it wasn't difficult for her to go along with her mom as a child, especially then when many children loved and respected their parents and had no reason to believe they would do anything to hurt them. I think she is slowly working through it...although she still seems to protect her mom in this area. Just my opinion and I hope she gets through it. She writes very openly, I found her story very enlightening.
I have to agree. The way her legs are open in a couple of he shots says clearly these poses were intentional. But she was too conditioned or innocent to notice.
At this time, everything wasn't as sexualized as it is today. The photographer and the one who put this commercial together said they thought it was supposed to be corny and laughable because of how superficial it is.
Ally Dorante for their time they wasn’t corny. They seem corny now because they were innocent. Now to sell a product you have to show boobs, and shake that “aaass” and speak vulgarly,
I saw her back in the day. I couldn't believe how beautiful she was. Jaw dropping! I've seen other models too. Cindy Crawford etc... Brooke was another level.
All I could say is thank God she was never kidnapped or hurt in any way especially during those weird times/era of serial killers and pedophilia. They truly protected her (well I hope they did) and I must agree with everyone who says she was the most beautiful back then. Cindy Crawford reminds me of her and vice versa. Still very beautiful women to this day and both live quiet low key lives it seems.
You are a complete idiot. Her mother let her pose nude in the movie Pretty Baby where she played a prostitute living in a brother with her prostitute mother, WHEN SHE WAS 10 YEARS OLD. Pedophilia is defended by the Far-Left now and they want to make it legal. They are saying that it's just another sexual orientation, and serial killers ? There are more now than there has ever been. How can you possibly be this stupid.
I don’t know how to tell you this, but that weird era of serial killers and pedophilia is generally referred to as ‘life’. I mean.. when exactly do you think that ended?
Brooke had a most beautiful & mature looking face, especially once they put on some make up. But despite the ads, the industry & her upbringing and that she was considered one of the most beautiful girls of her day, she's a pretty down to earth person.
@@Christian_Ada1 her debut in “Pretty Baby” at the age of 9, Shields revealed she was the victim of a sexual assault by a Hollywood professional , it was always wrong
her debut in “Pretty Baby” at the age of 9, Shields revealed she was the victim of a sexual assault from a Hollywood professional, maybe why she was so mature , glad all the perverts are being called out
Poor Brook everybody was so jealous of her. Or was it because she was so over exposed to the point of her being annoying. She was a very beautiful girl.
I remember those commercials as a young teen at the time...they really exploited Brooke Shields. She was a pretty girl though and not like these crack head and doped up models now with no figures that's walking down the runways these days.
Lollipopfop why do you keep using that one commercial as an example of why these commercials aren’t supposed to be suggestive? this video showed a lot..
Brooke was flawlessly gorgeous and she reminds me of Mariel Hemingway so much. Just don't make me choose which of them is more beautiful. I simply can't go there. Seeing these commercials again makes me completely nostalgic for the debauchery and gluttony that were the 80s.
@@notwerkinginthishouse8634 She was 15 years old when the campaign for Calvin Klein first launched in 1980. Which was after Pretty Baby (1978) and The Blue Lagoon (1980 ).
@@notwerkinginthishouse8634 I like her as an actress don't jump to conclusions. Brooke Shields along with all other people are always more than just looks alone. Just giving you something to think about.
I used to watch these commercials when they 1st aired. It was usually after 11:00 PM because they were so racy. She had such a beautiful hair Especially in the 1st clip
She wasn’t alone, the seventies was the worst decade for female children to grow up in. The era of “‘if it. Feels good, do it” left over Fromm the 60s, plus the cynicism of the 70s the Happy Hooker and Erica Jong, allowed perdophiles a free reign. In my “free”high school , all the teachers slept with the teenage students, I didn’t but all my friends were being abused. Shrinks, teachers, no adult was safe back then. Virginity was a bad word, something others decided how to have it be taken away, “as soon as a child starts to feel anything sexual ( which even babies do), they MUST act on that.” Children! Poor Shields, poor every girl, teenager, or adolescent, who, in the early seventies, was raised for the pleasure of powerful, in any slight sense, men. Many lives were ruined, lost opportunities for education, and distrust for life.
I remember when that ad of Brooke in her Calvins was plastered everywhere! I so wanted to look like that in my jeans. But alas, Brooke is about 10 ft tall (LOL), and I'm am/was a little shrimpy.
Could anyone write what she says in the brief spot repeated among the other ones, please? I mean the one in which she falls down wearing orange socks...i'm sorry but i'm not an english speaker...thanks a lot guys
It's Frankie Heck's nightmare neighbor, Rita Glossner, The Middle. Love her/Brooke in that role. She and Frankie work so well together. May someday they'll be in laws???? Have to wait and see. It's Marky Mark!!!!
Brooke Shields is the very embodiment of "someone you can never have", especially in Michael Jackson's case, it was no secret Michael's love for Brooke - to the point he stated quite publicly how infatuated he was with her back in the day. and it received nowhere near any level of reciprocation for the amount Michael Jackson put in to be the best version of himself to this world it happens to the best of us
I CANT BELEIVE THEY ACTUALLY MADE THESE DESIGNER JEAN COMMERCIALS, NOW WATCH THE OTHER DESIGNER JEAN COMMERCIALS, SERGIO VALENTE, JORDACHE , BONJOUR, CHIC JEANS ETC LMFAO
