My dad flew pigeons in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Grand Street and Driggs Avenue in the 1970s and 80s. In addition to 'flights' he raced 'homers' under the loft name Bobby-Joe. I spent countless hours with him on the roof as a little kid. I always had to be quiet and not make any sudden moves so as not to startle the birds. I remember my dad walking up five flights of stairs with a 50lb burlap sack of feed (corn mix, grit) a few times a month. I never took to raising pigeons but I do regret not telling the story of these guys in some sort of way. They all had great nicknames and could use profanity better than Shakespeare could write a sonnet. They came from all walks of life and from different ethnic backgrounds. They made fun of each other in ways that today would be considered politically incorrect; yet they respected everyone. Thank you for posting and for bringing back some great memories.
I live in Alabama and we do things differently than northerners..not saying better, just different..That’s why I watch fanciers up north. I may learn something new.
Hello guys, I want to ask a question. Do wild pigeons ever join into the flock while your birds are out flying and follow them into the loft? Also, do you mix up your own food for them in variously different types for different ages or stages of life? Thank you.
hi guys I use to birds back in the 70s with my friend Jr who I hav'nt seen for over 15 years recently we found each other and most of our conversation was about our coop. His birthday is coming up in October I would like to buy a white flight with a cap any suggestion where I could buy one thank you much Louie
👍🏻🇬🇧🏴 I kept rolling pigeons for most of life till some bastard pinched them and kill my dog I have never got over it !!! It broke my heart and my life has been one big struggle ever since .
Yes thats the name of the game. Fly your birds and try and catch other peoples bird. Some people just like to watch them fly and don't care about strays.
