With Charles though anyone with even the slightest familiarity with him will know his comment is always unintentional.

Charles said as early as Season 1 he worries he might become Hitchcock one day. They both absolutely love food, both have no boundaries, both can have dunce like moments. Their friendships with their immature counterparts are just as strong.

As a Gina fan it does feel strange when she makes me laugh with a really good line but than the boys reaction to it is basically a shrug. It just makes me question my sense of humour: do I just find shit that isn’t funny funny? is Gina really that funny? Am I laughing only because I have a crush on her so in my mind she’s funnier than she actually is? SO MANY QUESTIONS The obvious answer is her style of comedy just isn’t for everyone, i just can’t help questioning my sense of humour anytime I see their reaction to her

I think this is one of those problems that will just inevitably exist because of the power imbalance between men and women, both physically and socially. We can fix the social imbalance, but not the physical. If it came down to it, Terry could use one hand to stop Gina, but not the other way around. That's why it will forever be creepy to have a male actor make those comments, but not if a female actor does it.

I am just glad she eventually stopped that.

Hitchcock lies about his age on the internet and hooks up with girls half his age, he dated a 19yo, he has a creep kit etc. Gina’s attitude towards Terry is gross but I believe it’s only because the show was written at a time where this shit was tolerated (‘a product of its time’), not because they actually approve of it as opposed to what Hitchcock does, that’s why the writers stopped with that later on.

@@mandarina4157 I think Gina harassing Terry is comedy in the same way stuff like Tom and Jerry etc was comedy. Watching a cat catch and torture a mouse, or a coyote kill a bird, or a human shoot a rabbit in the face, that’s not “funny” - it’s just bleak and uncomfortable. Watching a petite woman act inappropriately with a superior that hench and powerful is funny on an instinctive level You think about it and it starts being obvious that it isn’t okay, and then factor race into it and holy shit, imagine being a black American male cop with a shaved head who has accidentally broken doors and walls and has a white female coworker in a “PA” type role constantly violating your personal space while filming it for social media. In his shoes I’d probably just shut down completely (in the words of Peep Show “you can’t do a sexual assault if you stay perfectly still”)

All of the characters will grow and then go back to being childish tbh

@@ethelann they’re still childish because that’s who they are but they definitely develop, Jake is way more serious and open about his feelings than he used to be, Terry isn’t afraid anymore, Rosa is more willing to share things, Holt and Amy are more willing to have fun etc

It's always been the opposite for me. I hated Gina in Season 1 but she then became my favourite character. So sad to see her go in a couple of episodes, the show wasn't the same without her.

I actually disagree I didn’t like her at first then I grew accustomed to her antics and came to like her a lot. She’s my third favorite character. Sadly she leaves the show to do her own thing but at least she came back for the finale. I don’t think she goes without a character arc she does show her soft side with the characters around her and we see her do it more often.

It's basically a guilty pleasure man series with very cliche plot and characters, that is objectively not that good, but somehow still enjoyable. Like romance novels for women to complete the sexist cycle. lol

I think the main difference is that Gilgamesh is absurdly, cartoonishly arrogant and seeing him be brought down a peg or two is part of the appeal whereas Gina is just plain narcissistic and the show goes out of its way to make her always right

The entire premise of Gina got old very fast. Like, before the end of Season 1 fast. She's just annoying.

I like Gina though I may have been conditioned to love her by watching Harvey Girls Forever as I often picture Chelsea's character from that show whenever Gina is around

The problem with Gina is that she has a remarkable lack of redeemable qualities, and even worse than that, she rarely if ever loses, or has her attitude bite her in the ass. It always feels like the story and the other characters condone her behaviour. She never had an arc in which her character is challenged in any way that makes her evolve past her absolute narcisism. I wish we had got at least one episode in which that behaviour gets her in trouble and she has to reexamine herself as a person. Instead when she gets challenged is because that personality itself is in danger, like when she's worried that she's becoming uncool, or something similar.

i really liked Gina through all the seasons. i don't buy the point that people dislike her because she's just mean or whatever, everyone loves caleb the child murdering cannibal after all. I think it's just people not liking Chelsea Perretti for whatever reason. which is okay of course, there's people you're just not gonna like i for example will never like a Robert Downey Jr. Character no matter how well written he is because i just can't stand his face and voice for some reason, nothing against him personally either.

I still dislike Amy for insulting Jake's family, and about the baby thing, Jake opened up about his insecurities with his relationship with his dad but Amy made it like a high school debate. Gina have one liner insults but Amy's stuff is deep

@@ethelann 100% agree about the baby debate, and how she said to Jake's face that she's planning on leaving him if he doesn't want a baby, that was just straight up mean and uncalled for.

​@@ethelann I'm not picking favourites, it's entirely different characters and situations. Rosa or the others weren't sexually harassing another character for at least an entire season. Which, to dwell on that a bit more, in this specific show, is kind of a big deal cause it's played like a joke when none of the other serious stuff is. If Gina was in Always Sunny or How I Met Your Mother with Barney Stinson, then she would fit amazingly, but this just isn't the type of show to make comedy out of that and it not only doesn't fit, but because it doesn't fit, it's actually uncomfortable. Back to Rosa though, she can be extremely rude and disrespectful, yes. But, well, first of all, we see her grow, we see them all grow, season 1 Jake is miles apart from season 5 Jake, and same with Rosa who spends entire episodes on the later seasons with Amy, Boyle, Hitchock and Scully being as nice as her character can be with them. While Gina, if anything, not only doesn't grow, but she gets worse AND outright saves the day by being awful a couple of times. It's not picking favourites, it's just not the same.

What's extra gross about the Gina sexually harassment "jokes" to me is it's the kind of thing Terry Crews has spoken up about in real life before, but here it's played off as not serious at all.

yeah and also there is an episdoe in season 1 where they have a flashback to hitchcock and scully in the 70s and they look the same as their older selves. Then again, I really dont think b99 cares about continuity

It's why their channel doesn't grow anymore. They get to popular videos 2 days after everybody has watched multiple reactions of them and get sick of them. They should have been at a million subs ages ago.

@@Steddy Idk man, COVID is a pretty damn good excuse for this one. And I can't stand a single other reactor besides Natalie Gold and sometimes Tyrone Magnus, and Gold doesn't do trailer reactions, so you bet I'm waiting for Blind Wave every time. And I've noticed they haven't been on top of _everything_ but it's hardly a drastic wait. I think the Ms. Marvel finale was the longest I've had to wait for one in a while; usually their reaction is the day after the thing comes out at most.

The thing with IASIP is that all the characters are horrible, but they always pretty much get what they deserve and nothing ever goes their way. Gina's schtick in 90% of the B-plots she got in those early seasons are: - Gina gives terrible advice whilst being an ass - They dont take her terrible advice and things go wrong - They learn that they should have listened to Gina because she's somehow the best at everything

There are some characters in modern sitcoms who bully selected members of the ensemble and are excused by the narrative bc they are generally nice to others. It always bothered me that she specifically targeted Amy, Charles and Terry and was way nicer to the others, meaning she was perfectly capable of doing better and just chose not to. The show constantly portraying her as in the right definitely didn't help either.

Plus the show always treats her as if she’s perfect and never has to grow which is the opposite of every other character in the show
