Ray Charles is widely respected in Country Music, so much so, that he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of fame last year. Ray had several country music hits.

There's a TV show called "crossroads" which is a TV show about collaboration between to music genres. Ray Charles and Travis tritt did an episode and it was wonderful. Worth watching even if you don't react to it.

Love this Brooks and Dunn .... so glad that I got to catch your reaction. Hate that people get so "Label",so "country" so blah blah... Just dang good music. Ronnie Dunn has such a smoothe voice with that growl! Whoo. Google the lyrics / songwriter. Loneliest song I've ever heard.

I grew up in NYC listening to Jazz and R&B, but Brooks & Dunn taught me to appreciate the 90's country artists. Many of their best songs have already been recommended in the previous comments, but you should also check out "RED DIRT ROAD", "EVERY RIVER" (which I've dedicated to my wife & partner of 46 years!), and "ONLY IN AMERICA", with Ronnie Dunn as lead vocalist, and "YOU'RE GONNA MISS ME WHEN I'M GONE", and "I FALL" (which I've also dedicated to my wife), with Kix Brooks in the lead.

Great Eddy Arnold hit in 1955. Jerry Vale did my favorite version and had a hit with it in 1956. Ray Charles of course came along with his hit version of it in 1962, and Mickey Gilley took it to number 1 in 1981. They'll be recording new versions of this song forever. It's timeless.
