Great review as always and love that this one is in the wild. I tried Hoka Clifton 9, Brooks Glycerine and Saucony Triumph, NB 1080 (all newest models) and Ghost Max had just arrived and were suggested. I took a chance and bought the Ghost Max. I wear custom orthotics and my feet are always sore. I love them - cushioned but not cushy, 6mm drop takes pressure off the fore foot, lots of room but not sloppy at all. They are absolutely the Goldilocks of shoes for me and those with orthotics.
We're glad to hear the Ghost Max has been working out for you! In-store it has been a popular option for people who need support but don't want a firm cushion.
As someone who just wanted a comfortable everyday shoe for all of the walking i do at work- i went into the store looking for a hoka, and walked out with the ghost max. Also, just an fyi- i have a narrower heel and midfoot but need a roomy toebox and these fit me great.
I don't know if there is anyone that has the problems with shoes that I have. I have flat feet and arthritis in my feet. So finding shoes that leave me enough room, for inserts and a toe box roomy enough is a challenge. It's almost impossible to find shoes. I had been wearing Hoka Clifton but eventually they didn't work for me. So the shoe store recommended I try the new Ghost Max. I thought just another shoe to waste money on. Well I bought a pair a week ago, and immediately I had the room and feel in a shoe I need. After a few days I found the shoes allow me to go without the orthotic. So I purchased another pair so I would have them when I needed another pair. Already the store had sold out so its on order. I'm very pleased with the Ghost Max and I hope it will be a big seller for Brooks. If so leave the damn shoe alone and don't change anything on it. Your review was excellent and your presentation was very informative.
It's nice to hear the Ghost Max is working for you. It has been a very popular shoe here at Run Moore as well. A lot of brands are making shoes to compete with Hoka and the Ghost Max happens to be one of our favorites.
I have flat feet with plantar fasciitis. I'm currently using the Arahi 6 with Aetrex insoles (my custom inserts makes the Arahi difficult to wear in terms of heel space). Would you recommend the Ghost Max or the Beast as a Brooks sustitute for a combination of stability and max comfort?
If you are using them for everyday wear/walking I would give the nod to the Beast. It should be more cushioned (although heavier) and just as stable. The Ghost Max is great but it's not technically classified as a stable option so even with your Aetrex inserts, it may not be enough arch support. Another option, if this will also be a shoe you run in, would be the Glycerin GTS 21. It's higher cushion than the Arahi but is stable. It will perform better than the Beast if you are planning on running in it but if you are looking for just an all day walking shoe, hard to beat the Beast.
@@RunMoore Thanks. Would the Glycerin 21 GTS provide enough stability as a walking shoe in my case? Just curious, as the added cushion for extra comfort can be tempting (not to mention the lack of color choices on the Beast).
The Ghost Max is a fantastic shoe for walking. It has ample cushioning for any distance. The straight-last construction helps the Ghost Max feel stable underfoot while being considered a neutral shoe. It has been one of Brooks' most popular shoes. Other popular options for walking from Brooks include the Ariel GTS 23 and the Glycerin GTS 21. They are both maximum cushion and supportive. The Ariel has more support, while the Glycerin has more cushion. The Ghost Max is the most cushioned of the three.
The most noticeable difference between the Ghost and Ghost Max, aside from the midsole stack height, is the GlideRoll Rocker in the Ghost Max. This helps smooth the heel-to-toe transitions in the Ghost Max compared to the Ghost 15. The Ghost Max's base is wider than the Ghost Max. This provides more support in the Ghost Max than in the Ghost 15.
There are a plethora of differences that separate the Ghost Max and the Glycerin. To name a few, the Ghost Max has a 1mm higher stack height than the Glycerin in the heel and a 5mm higher stack height in the forefoot. The Ghost Max has a straight last construction which gives it a pinch of support comparable to the Glycerin GTS. The Ghost Max still uses the DNA Loft v2 midsole foam, while the Glycerin has the nitrogen-infused Loft v3 midsole.
hi.. i tried these shoes and the are the first pair that felt comfortable for my high arches and wide feet, Ive tried the Bondi, Gel NImbus, 880 but they were all too tight.. MY QUESTION is my feet are between a 6.5 and 7 (one foot 8 3/4 inches the the other 9 ) the 6.5 feel good but my toes on my larger foot are 1/4 inch from the end of the shoe.. but in the 7,, i have two thumbs from the end... what would you suggest i buy?
A quarter inch is a little close but still wearable. We recommend having 3/8 of an inch from the end of the shoe. If your longer foot doesn't feel too cramped in the 6.5, stick to the 6.5. If your longer foot is being squished too much, go up to the 7. We always try to accommodate the larger foot. Unfortunately, that means the smaller foot will feel like it's swimming in the shoe.
The stack height that I have stated in the video is incorrect. The actual stack height of the Ghost Max is 39mm at the heel and 33mm toward the forefoot.
I wear a 2E and have issues with toe box room in other brands. This one is quite roomy. I’ve only run in it once so far but it was very nice with no rubbing or slipping.
Hi, I have the Torin 5 normal width and it is OK (dont know if the 7 is the same midsole), I have also the Rivera2, escalante 3, Via olympus and paradigm 6 all of them have eva EGO or EGOMAX midsoles, kind of outdated, dead and would like to test better midsole options but stable, and wide as the Altra (maybe the vanish tempo) midsoles as the saucony endorphin Pro3, brooks hyperion tempo, adidas adizero adios pro1 or takumi sen 8/9 or reebok floatride energy x different types of midsoles, lighter and more responsives but not in lower drop neither wider toeboxes@@fransera
We understand that it's pronounced the same as Bondi Beach. However, our Hoka sales representative introduced it to us as the Bondi with the long e sound. We've just been saying it with the long e ever since.
Saw the shoes at an expo with pre-orders. The tongue is not gussested...AGAIN. I have big tongue slide issues with the Hyperion Max. Gave up on that pair. Does this suffer the same tongue slide issue?
Brooks is probably in the top two brands of run specialty stores like our own. They're always one of the most asked-for and recommended brands. So far, the Ghost Max has been a nice addition to our arsenal. It fits in well with the other maximum cushion neutral shoes and gives a nice alternative for people who find the Glycerin a bit too firm.
