Genius! I have just bought this machine as a replacement for a previous Brother machine and never had the problem before. I thought it was a problem with how the purchased pattern had been digitised but your method has worked. Brilliant- you’ve stopped me throwing the machine out of the window!
My sister and I have purchased this machine for our small business, we find this a great companion to the 6 thread machine. We also use memory sticks for our 1000s and 1000s of designs. Fantastic Machine.

I think brother are aware of it, a person a in a Facebook I queried the issue in said her dealer spoke to brother and they were working on a system update for it? Who knows how long that will take😅
I was just about to return this Brother but this workaround, as crazy as it sounds worked! Thank you! I have a Brother NQ1700E and this trick work on it.
Awesome! Don't forget to update your machine software to the latest one as well. Usually they should have worked out this particular bug in a software update 😊

I am new to machine embroidery and have a Brother Innovis 3700D. It does the same thing and I used your trick and it worked. Thank you so much for the information! Maybe a software glitch? Hopefully brother figures it out.

I think it's a small hiccup in the digitizing, as I experienced the same, started digitizing from scratch again and I didn't have that problem anymore.( I'm using the 30 day free trial from Bernina embroidery 8 atm for digitzing) . But this is much easier, so I will definitely use this hack if it happens again.

I think it might be worth contacting brother directly for notification on when they'll be updating the machine software to combat this. I'm haven't had anymore issues since but it's still something that I have to be aware of.
