I would agree that a thread stand is a must for more stable thread feeding. It also makes color switching faster since you can load the thread stand with the colors your embroidery will need. I found that I can use those 3M stick on metal hanger hooks to guide the thread and that also keeps the thread feeding more stable.
@@knittingnana2939 hahaha right? At least not until someone hax it and we can use it on whatever we want :D I guess hackers even built embroidery units for decades old, completely mechanic sewing machines.
Thank you so much for this review. I was thinking about getting this machine and now I've pressed pause on that decision. I appreciate you for all the details you provided.
We purchased this. We have never embroidered before for me. This was a great way to start. I was able to choose whether I like to embroider and without spending thousands of dollars. I did have to sign up for the subscription in order to upload designs and we only got 30 days for the free trial. I did find a number to someone who apparently teaches a class on the software so I am going to be joining that I honest opinion is this is definitely for someone like me who’s never done anything like this before and I am computer savvy. That’s only thing I got going for me with this.
I hate subscription based products..... If I buy a machine from a company and having to have a subscription to just run it is stupid.. That is my biggest issue with computers.... "oh they will sell you a computer but if you want to do anything you have to pay monthly." Real appreciate the review hope Brother is listening
Oh frickin great. I just ordered this machine from Fingerhut and after seeing your video will be sending it right back. I live in the mountains with crappy cell service. Being forced to use an app instead of an onboard storage sucks. I retired and wanted to make extra money but it won't be with this machine.
I tried to get it to work but couldn't even figure out how to thread the needle even after watching videos. It has been sent back. The Brothers company is trying to rip people off.
Jen, you do realize Brother probably spent $200+ thousand dollars on 3 marketing managers and four focus groups to "develop" that name, right?! 😂 Ridiculous requiring the app. I will never buy one. (Hear that Brother?!) Well, I hope you get your money's worth out of it. Thx for your honesty.❤
Thanks for the update Jen. Glad you give honest reviews. I can tell when someone is giving a review of something and they say they love it and they are having problems with the product but yet they still love it?
Love this video. I was so interested in this machine but this video pointed out a lot of issues I was warned about! My friend has a six needle embroidery machine and she has given me so many pointers. She told me to stay away from this machine and your video confirmed all of her concerns!
@sandydaniels2668 that was my concern with the ditto as well. So I just bought a regular projector with WiFi. It seems to work fine and is not limited to the ditto library. It was must cheaper than the ditto even on sale.
Thank you for your videos that explain a product. Your info is so down to earth and easy to understand. Gives the boost I need to make decisions and/or begin projects. Thank you
DO NOT BUY! The Skitch PP1 is the result of bringing a product to market prematurely. Shame on Brother for such a sloppy engineering debacle for what could have been highly successful. The bobbin fails to remain in place. Needles collide with the lower deck. The foot doesn’t retract. The threads become a bird’s nest. I wouldn’t mind the pay-to-play model for Artspira if it were feature-rich software and had an operational device. Instead, I returned my PP1 for a full refund.
Appreciate you sharing your own experience. I've had some of the same issues myself. It's a shame because I do like some of the Skitch features, but you're right - Brother could have put out a better product from the get-go and the Artspira app leaves much to be desired. I cannot even fathom paying $12.99 / month for Arspira+.
I just subscribed to this channel and Sewing Report Live ! 😊 I am new to sewing and you are a wealth of knowledge! I can’t wait to catch up on your videos. Thank you for sharing and I am very excited to be part of this community 😊
Thanks, Jen for the update. I love to sew and it’s a good distraction away from cell phone use at Any Day. No thanks for that Brother embroidery machine/app. Just being honest here.
Just bought a brand new one from FB Marketplace for $250. Have a SE1900 and three multineedles so this will just be used for playing around with and maybe simple designs at craft shows.
So the concept is great, there is just some improvements that need to be done to make it worth it's price. I think a second version of this machine could turn out really good if Brother listens to user feedback.
I find nothing beneficial in that model machine. It will be a landfill or a doorstop. I am seeing and hearing from many people who are sorry they bought one. What was Brother ever thinking when they made this??
Thanks for your thoughts! As soon as you told me it's 12.95 mo, I said.. NEXT.... sorry... I don't trust that either!!!! Love your quality of video and sound you have!!!! You Rock! :) Cheers!
I have the brother Pe100 embroidery machine I purchased it over 30 years ago. It’s still works it has a LED screen. I paid $1000 for it. It has a 4 x 4 hoop size I’m thinking of purchasing this embroidery machine just to see how it works and I too use Amazon, so if it’s not for me, I will return it to Amazon. I do like that it has a separate app because I am older and I cannot read the LED screen as well as I can my phone. I will let you know how the machine is once I purchase it. Thanks for the information.
What happens when Apple updates IOS to a point where Brother no longer supports it? It sounds like at any moment, Brother could basically disable the machine because you can’t run the software anymore. I don’t understand why an app only device exists. Its planned to be obsolete in a future date.
Very good video! Good that you call out that Adobe-ish monthly subscription BS to skip USB or wi/fi transfer is bad the Machine was not that expensive but to pay monthly is against my religion I get the feeling it's a multineedle machine with one needle It's bad if you can't buy a bigger hoop, you going to outgrow that in some month!
Thank you very much for your honest review! I'll stick with free motion and my manual method. Sewing should be a pleasure, not a price point. Regards from Florida!
I fairly sure the price of the machine is influenced by the fact that they expect you to join the subscription. Like they have a lower profit margin on the machine but they make that back with the subscription. This to say i wonder if they are gonna up the price of the machine if they notice that people aren't getting the subscription. Your reviews are very helpful. If it wasn't for the fact that i can't get this machine were i live i would have probably bought it the moment i saw the price and only realized the added costs afterwards.
No USB loading of files or direct PC loading of files is a deal breaker. What an enormously bad idea. I love Brother and started my business 14yrs ago with Brother machines. I still use Brother Design Pro software for my current commercial machines.
Jen, if you'd like to include magnetic hoop capabilities for your PE800/PE900 machines, DIME makes a very popular magnetic hoop line. They have models that are compatible with the snap-in embroidery arms. Re: Small business machine - the other thing that is not talked about a lot is that the arm-type machines are not really designed for the volume you'd expect to be stitching if you're fulfilling orders. The "frog"-shaped machines are better suited for those volumes (and priced accordingly, unfortunately).
I'm also curious if they take our images they force you to upload and use them for AI or if you would be giving them permission to use because they're uploaded?
Idea - do you think you could get a larger custom 3d printed, CNC, or resin hoop with magnets. I'm not sure what that attachment to the machine looks like but you might could find another one or fabricate that as well. Maybe hookup with another youtuber like Evan & Katelyn & do some type of mash-up.
Im not a fan of being turned into a continuous cash cow to use a machine that i have paid good money for , via way of subscription. A shame because i really liked the design of this machine but having read the reviews. Its unfortunately going to be a no for me. Plus i tryst that your reviews are thoroughly honest. Thank you for taking the time to inform us. Much love from the UK 🇬🇧 Brother take note, you are not Bill Gates. This offering is a real turn off for future purchasing decisions. Way to erode your customer bases trust.
One thing I can't seem to find information about is how much thread I'm going to use per project and what kind I need to buy for skitch PP1. I can't afford the Brother embroidery thread, which costs almost 100 dollars for just four colors (the prices are even higher in my country). but I don't wanna buy some cheep once if they not gonna work on it
Yeah, as soon as you said the hoop was magnetic, I knew this would be a serious issue. With thicker fabrics like denim or a thick fleece, the magnets are going to lose some of their strength, especially when you have a stabilizer on said fabric. I knew that the hoop would slide with thicker fabrics and would mess up your project. This may be a fun machine for young people or for people who don’t embroider much and want to be able to use it for lighter weight projects or to add a logo or signature to hand-made fabric arts (like a way to mark your quilts that your selling, or handmade bags). Edit for clarity
Yes, it’s kinda the same thing with Cricut machines after paying a crazy amount of money for the equipment and supplies you also have to pay to even have access to your own files. The only way to stop this is let them know to all the companies that are doing that and stop buying from them. They’ll learn fast.
Hi im looking to buy this machine just to embroidery words i currently have a brother nv880e so this one would just be used to embroider words on memory bears feet do u think its worth it? Thank you
Well I was going to buy it but after watching your video. I pass I’m not going to buy it. Thank you for your honest review. And brother shame on you for putting something out there that you didn’t take your time to put out a quality machine and app. 😞
Thanks, I totally agree with you Asperia is really bad. Tried it for 3 weeks then just deleted it. It wasn’t worth even the free trial let alone pay for it.
as someone who lives in the Uk and very new to embroidery I have recently purchased this machine (still waiting for the delivery) I am at a lost of what machine to buy. I was interested in the SE/PE series none of which are available. can someone one point me in the right direction please?
I was looking to purchase my first embroidery machine and I was ready to purchase a Brother embroidery machine until I saw this machine and the app subscription needed to use it (and one of your videos on it). Even though I was looking at bigger machines like the PE900 or the NS1250E and not the Skitch, I was very unhappy to see this kind of marketing from Brother. Ultimately, I decided to go with another company because of this machine and Brother's overall marketing strategy here... that can make a machine we purchased a useless brick whenever they choose to. Brother needs to learn a lesson here and until they do, I will not be purchasing any of their products.
Everything is going to subscriptions, which makes everything unaffordable. I refuse to subscribe to anything more than $5/month, no exceptions. And even then, it is very rare for me to do that and it better be worth it.
I was going to go buy this today and I thought I would see if I could find a video on it and I am glad I found this review. I didn’t know I couldn’t use a usb or wireless wifi and this is one reason I wanted it wifi. The app only has a few designs I thought were so cute otherwise I’m like you I called it kindergarten designs. I thought it would be great for a onesie business. But I’m not paying for an app to use it. What a bummer!
Wow thanks for the video I was just about to purchase this machine and told myself go check the reviews first 😞 Dag I guess I’m going to have to save up a little bit more for a machine and find one that is not so much subscription base….geez you spend enough money on these products and then they wanna lock you into using it only by there applications UGH
