I've always felt Sunny Leslie was (aside from Dusty Springfield) the most soulful of all the British female vocalists of the 60/70s. Her leads here are impeccable, a fluid blend with Tony, Roger, Sue and the very soulful Johnny Goodison, who was very underrated. That later year Euro-vision group version cannot even compare to this masterpiece original from about mid 1970. Sunny to Tony is what is referred to as "singing to each other" as opposed to singing against each other. A masterpiece.
Well said. I totally agree. Sunny had an incredible voice. Tony & Sue were great. Johnny (B Great ) Goodison was an underrated talent & Mr Greenaway is a genius!
Well, I remember the 80s when I was a kid listening to this beautiful song. An aunt called Sonia used to listen to this and other beautiful songs and I just delithted myself with them. In that time, I didn't know what they meant but the melodies said with silent words what they conveyed. I mean, I knew that what they were telling me was really profound. Melodies with a message that filled the soul. It's a pitty that now we don' t have music that good like this. Thanks God we can count on these beautiful classics that are endless in my memories.
An absolute classic this one, the lyrics are just beautiful, imagine if we practiced what this fantastic group are singing about.. I love this song which is in my all time top 100 favourite songs ❤️
I remember listening to this song when it came out . It made such an impression on me for some inexplicable reason. Probably due to it being such a memorable tune!
Yo siento algo inexplicable con esta bella melodía🎶se que la vengo escuchando desde muy pequeña por mi padre, pero me trae recuerdos vagos y bonitos, los coros me transportan a un mundo magico, bueno algo asi siento
This wonderful, beautiful song is as revelent as the day it was released if not more so today because of COVID-19, Ukraine, Uvalde, politics and I can go on and on but we definitely need to step back and heed the message of this timely song...🙏🙏🙏...😭😭😭...
Amazing performance live..! I' really inspired of this song..inspirational or love song. It reminds me a unity of one country or nations to stand up again for the better world. Thank you BrotherHood Of Man your group is my inspiration.
And there's Tony!... Great singing on this tune and of course, he's the REAL singer on gazillions of other hit records from this time frame such as "Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes" and "Beach Baby" and lots more. Good to see him here although I think he screws up the words on the second verse.
The genuine article, with Sunny and Tony on leads, from "Top of the Pops" on the BBC, 1970. This was one of the shows where Tony did additional duty with Edison Lighthouse and/or White Plains. The boy was busy. Tony and Sunny at left; Jim, Sue and Roger at right.
Thank you so much. I have been searching over the last hour trying to Identify which sister was Sunny and which one was Sue. #1 I am from the US. So my knowledge of Sunny and Sue is very limited. But I remember this song like it was yesterday. Yes Tony was a busy man. I think it has been stated that he was a one-hit-wonder 5 times. The original lineup were veteran session singers. Things were very limited back then about the nuts and bolts about songs, who sang what, and whom played what instruments. I guess it was part of the studio system that thought those details were unimportant.
I didn't expect to see Roger Greenaway on stage. I think of him mainly as a composer. I've looked on RU-vid for David & Jonathan singing Michelle from early 1966 but he and Roger Cooke do not seem to have made any promotional television performances, or none have been saved.
😭I’m writing with tears in my eyes , and on my face😭 I was born in the 6ties , and I never knew racism until I was 26yrs old , it’s the same skin tone of people I saw between birth , and 26yrs , ok maybe not on a scale as I see in The uk , but non the less all colours , and dress code were there , it just looked normal to me , and I wasn’t thought that others were different from me either. I always loved this song , and a few more that’s kinda similar from I was a child , I wish we could all understand the words of this song , I mean really understand it , and be united , it kills me inside to see how others treat others for no good reason , now more than ever it seems our backs are going against the walls , but most still refuse to get it , so are we ever going to unite? I won’t hold my breath , I’ll just keep doing my best , one love people 😭😭💕💕
Maybe you should explore something else than the commercially pop music ;) There are epic electro creations, cool bands, cool rappers. More than just Kanye West and Nicki Minaj
Hey Tony, thanks for a GREAT hit! We've been discussing our "class theme song" (1976, Bay High School, Panama City, FL) on our FB page and I believe this is it. I still love it! Thanks again!
Por favor , si son tan amables deseo saber los nombres de quiénes cantan , en esta versión original en video blanco y negro en el año 1970 de Mantengámonos Unidos ,
Tony Burrows, the male lead singer, also sang on the Edison Lighthouse song "My Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes" and White Plains' "My Baby Loves Lovin'" from the same year. He later sang on another hit with the studio group First Class in 1974: "Beach Baby."
