We take a look at Deep Purple performing "Space Truckin" live in 1973, near the temporary end of Mark II lineup. Originally thought this was at Felt Forum. but we're told it actually happened at Hofstra University, on Long Island.
Deep Purple's Mark II lineup consisted of:
Ritchie Blackmore - Guitar: Known for his innovative guitar playing and distinct sound, Blackmore was a driving force behind the band's musical direction.
Ian Gillan - Vocals: Gillan's powerful and versatile voice added a new dimension to Deep Purple's music, contributing to their signature sound.
Roger Glover - Bass: Glover provided a solid and melodic bass foundation to the band's music, complementing the rest of the members.
Jon Lord - Keyboards: Lord's virtuoso keyboard skills, especially on the Hammond organ, were a defining element of Deep Purple's sound.
Ian Paice - Drums: Paice's powerful and precise drumming anchored the band's rhythm section, contributing to their dynamic live performances.
In 1973, this lineup was at the peak of its creative output. They released the highly successful album "Machine Head," which featured legendary tracks like "Smoke on the Water" and "Highway Star." The album's recording was notably done in Montreux, Switzerland, where a fire at the Montreux Casino (during a Frank Zappa concert) inspired the famous song "Smoke on the Water."
The Mach II lineup's live performances during this time were renowned for their energy, musicianship, and improvisational prowess. They toured extensively, showcasing their musical chemistry and delivering powerful concerts that solidified their reputation as one of the leading rock bands of the era.

If you enjoy this video, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE - about 90 percent of our viewers are unsubscribed - subscribing is FREE and ensures you'll never miss an episode! Looking to get to 1000.... I'm looking to build a few other music channels on RU-vid. I can only really justify it once I get this channel monetized, and hopefully soon - hope you'll consider helping out - and thank you for your viewership! - G

This was not from the felt forum it was from Hofstra University on Long Island.. a lot of bands played this venue on their tour. Smaller places are the best to see a concert.

How does it possible that someone like you didn't see any video of this great band?🙄.

Have you seen and heard every band out there in the last 50 years? 😁 Neither have we. There was no RU-vid and no cable tv back when this band was at its height, and they didn't show up on network TV in the states - G

@glennandadriansrocktalk DP is not every band, actually. That's why I am a bit surprised. Are you from USA I guess?

@glennandadriansrocktalk I am pretty sure they were at the some shows in TV in US for sure. Anyway, youtube is existing since 2005, and you didn't see even one video of DP?😄. However it is okay.

@@elenka.svaliva2 Yes we are! Deep Purple was before our time and we didn't listen to them at all until fairly recently - except the first album, which I like back in the late 80s.

@@elenka.svaliva2 That's right - this idea of watching all the bands we missed the first time is fairly new to us, but we turned that into an advantage here 😁

It's a shame it's only an edited performance, as I think is the case with all of the songs from this particular broadcast. I believe the guitars Blackmore smashed were usually Japanese copies that had been rigged to break in such a way there was a chance they could be repaired. Ironically Japanese guitars from that era are quite collectible these days and often praised for their quality.

Tilting a Hammond organ DOES make a difference and is not for show. It releases this thundering, crackling noise.
@glennandadriansrocktalk
@glennandadriansrocktalk 9 месяцев назад
Oh, that! Yeah, that does happen, for good reason, and happens with amps, too. Adrian was talking about pitch bending. - G
@richsalm7474
@richsalm7474 8 месяцев назад
Tilting & releasing the organ causes the springs in the reverb tank to "crash". Turning the power off causes the pich to "bend".
