Miyako is a generational talent who is a virtuoso on BOTH the guitar and piano. She has been classically trained on the piano since the age of 3. Miyako also composed & arranged "Swan Song" and this track is a neoclassical metal masterpiece. Throughout the song, you can hear motifs from Romantic-era composers Chopin (intro, main riff, solo) and Dvořák (Chorus). The piano intro is Chopin's "Étude Op. 10, No. 12 in C minor", aka the "Revolutionary "Étude". The piano backing track in the chorus is necessary for the completeness of the song and was pre-recorded by Miyako. As talented as she is, even she can't play both the guitar and piano at the same time while LIVE on stage (she actually DID in a different LIVE performance but that's another story). To experience another masterpiece and witness how truly talented this band is, check out "A Frozen Serenade" LIVE

they add the backing tracks to make the song as close to the studio version as possible - first - the piano in the chorus is prerecorded by miyako - second - when miyako goes back to the keys at the end her prerecorded guitar makes it a duo with midori's and finally the little choir piece at the end. i love it and it takes nothing away from it imo. the crowds want to hear it complete as well. 95% is pure LOVEBITES live and it really shows.

People are so negative about backing tracks, but I get it, because there are so many crappy bands out there who have less skill than backing tracks. These girls have amazing talent, and they put in the extra effort, which is great.

There are two options for concert performances: 1. The band itself pre-records backing tracks of individual parts of which instruments (to create a more rich musical background, like an orchestra) and enriches the sound of live performances with them. 2. Additionally, hire musicians (support) for concerts. Financially, this costs much more, especially when the band Tours to different cities or different countries. LOVEBITES and their team (Label, management) prefer a more economical option.

@@GrayFox14 I think most bands and labels do. Most of the time when a band like Metallica and artist like Yngwie play with an orchestra it is for special occasion and is recorded. That makes those very special performances.

@@ChuckJansenII You're right. I completely agree with you. 👍If such famous, successful, big-money bands like METALLICA are also forced to count money for their expenses.... Then LOVEBITES, all the more, have to strictly control their budget and rationalize expenses. The business should not be unprofitable

Also, using a backing track adds the extra challenge of keeping in sync with the backing tack as the backing track does not adjust for any deviations.

Some knowledge of history is required to understand the meaning of the lyrics of this song. In 1831, some officers and citizens rose up against the Polish government, which was under the de facto control of the Russian Empire, in what was known as the 'November Revolution', but failed due to the direct intervention of Russian troops. Chopin received this news during a performance tour. He never set foot on the soil of his homeland again. When the Russians invaded Warsaw, Chopin's representatives presented the Etude OP 10, No. 12 in Paris. Franz Liszt, a friend of Chopin, then named it the 'Revolutionary Etude'. Miyako composed Swan Song based on this 'Revolutionary Etude' and Dvorak's 'New World Symphony'. Asami (vocalist), a former ballerina, wrote the lyrics inspired by Norse mythology and the ballet suite "Swan Lake", based on the historical background of the "Revolutionary Etude". "SwanSong" is a requiem for the warriors who fought to reclaim their homeland, a masterpiece that only Love Bites could complete.

Great reaction and observations. As long as a band is playing most of music live, backing tracks don't bother me. Sometimes a backing track is necessary. I saw Cheap Trick in 2018. Dream Police is the song that got me hooked on the band. The keyboards in that song are epic. On the album they were played by Jai Winding. Live they do not have keys and they didn't use a backing track. I wish they had. In Swan Song, the piano backing track throughout the song and operatic backing vocals make the song epic. Miyako is musical genius. Asami is a master lyricist.

For me it makes a huge difference whether backing tracks are created by a band itself or whether external forces are involved due to incompetence. With Lovebites there is not the slightest concern that there is cheating here. If Miyako doesn't record it, it is Mao, but technically it doesn't matter. Nothing is hidden, backing tracks are always clearly identifiable, Miyako can usually only play 1 instrument at a time (there are actually exceptions 😁😉😀🫡). As a listener I want to have the maximum listening experience, which is why backing tracks are officially permitted and desired at Lovebites. I have also seen some really cheeky live performances where main instruments were faked and solos too, that was the negative crowning glory for me.

@@FrankyE1169 Mao does not perform the piano parts, keyboards for the backing tracks of LOVEBITES. Mao is involved in programming.))) All backing tracks are recorded by the band members themselves (piano, keyboards, acoustic guitars, etc.). They pre-record these parts for concerts. There are two options when performing songs (for example, 'Swan Song') at concerts: 1. Miyako pre-records a piano part for the backing track. When she plays the guitar, a piano backing track is played, which she recorded especially for concerts. 2. You can refuse backing tracks. You can hire more musicians (support) for concerts. Hiring additional musicians for concerts is an additional financial cost.. From a business point of view (label, management), this costs much more, especially when the band Tours to different cities or different countries. Today is the first concert of LOVEBITES (London, UK), with which the band's First World Tour begins! If you hire support musicians for all concerts of the Tour, then this will be quite significant additional financial costs. LOVEBITES and their team (Label, management) prefer a more economical option. Besides music, it's also business. Especially when the band cannot afford (not yet) such financial costs as many European and American bands due to objective reasons.

@@GrayFox14 I have nothing against honest backing tracks, especially with Lovebites I have absolutely no problems or worries, I also see more common sense in terms of business. Thanks for the info about Mao, I only know that he is a kind of shadow member when it comes to composing, I only mentioned him because of his skills, which are equal to Miyako's, so only technically. What will come at some point, also in Japan, will be a colab with a symphony orchestra 😀, that will be really wild, I would also give Victor a lot of credit if they let their diamond (Lovebites) really shine, including a well-produced live BLUE RAY of this performance

@@FrankyE1169 I wasn't trying to criticize you. 🤗 I understood you well and just wanted to share a little information. To explain some points related to running the music business. LOVEBITES for the Label and management is, first of all, a business that must make a profit. In order for the Label to have money to pay all taxes, pay money to the band and the entire team for their work, which helps the functioning of the band ( management, roadies, etc). Could pay on time interest on bank loans taken for promotion, bands, album production (from work in a Japanese recording studio, to mixing and mastering in Finland; to factories for printing discs, to designers for album covers, etc.). It is necessary to pay lawyers, especially when LOVEBITES and his team travel to other countries (different laws, different taxation systems, processing work visas, etc.). Transport costs, cargo (equipment) insurance. And much more. Unfortunately, many LOVEBITES fans don't know or don't want to consider this side of the music business. For this reason, they often unfairly (this is my opinion) criticize the team and the Label. II respect these fans, but sometimes I don't understand them! They love LOVEBITES and want these ladies to give concerts in huge halls and stadiums, including in the West. But, unfortunately, our desires do not always coincide with real possibilities. I have tried several times to evaluate and analyze the Label's strategy and tactics for promoting LOVEBITES, including to the West. Since the release of the first EP (2017). My opinion: The Label and team have done and are doing everything possible. They build their strategy very competently. Management takes reality into account. I consider Swan Song to be one of Miyako's five (so far) masterpieces, and it remains my favorite Lovebites song. I read one of the commenters express a dislike for classical music. That is a shame. Probably 20% of my music collection is classical even though I am primarily a fan of hard rock and metal. Simply put, great music is great music. I am excited about the upcoming new EP from Lovebites. Because of the timing, I might very well get to experience the live debut of a Lovebites song at ProgPower.

Thank you for the reference to Renaissance. A truly great band which has sadly been long neglected. I saw them live, twice, and they were wonderful. For your viewers less familiar with Classical: Chopin was a Polish-born Romantic-era (1800’s) classical composer and piano virtuoso who lived most of his life in France. He is considered one of the great classical composers, specializing in highly technical works for piano. "Etude" is French for "study". Chopin's Etudes were written as "studies", or lessons, for his students. They ended up being popular things for professional pianists to play as part of their concerts, in part to show off their skills. This is one of the more famous ones and is considered one of the most difficult ones. Miyako, who composes a lot of Lovebites’ music, is a professional-level concert pianist, and was originally going to make classical music her career. When she was 18, she picked up a guitar, and is now (quite obviously) an elite-level guitarist. She particularly likes the Romantic Era classical composers like Debussy, Dvořák and Chopin, as well as her stated favorite, Russian romantic composer Rachmaninoff. She composed “Swan Song” using elements of the New World Symphony (Dvořák) and Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). For this performance, she actually played the Etude as the intro, but it’s not normally included in their shows.

Thanks for your reaction. 'Etude Op.10, No.12' ( or 'Revolutionary Etude') by the Great Polish composer Frederic Chopin, which was written in 1831 and is dedicated to the Polish patriots who raised an uprising (1830-1831) against the Russian Empire, whose troops occupied Poland. 'Swan Song' ( lyrics - Asami / music - Miyako) from LOVEBITES third studio Album 'Electric Pentagram' (2020). For many centuries (starting from Ancient Greece) there is a legend, according to which Swans, non-singing, "silent" birds, acquire a voice a few moments before death, and this dying singing of Swans is amazingly beautiful. 'Etude' by F. Chopin and 'Swan Song' are dedicated to the warriors who died in battle. Therefore, at the concert, 'Etude' and 'Swan Song' are played together. In an interview given after the release of the 'Electric Pentagram' Album, singer Asami (a former ballerina, studied classical ballet for about 16 years before becoming a singer) said that when she wrote the lyrics of the song, she was thinking about the famous ballet P.I. Tchaikovsky 'Swan Lake'. During the performance of the song, Asami imitates the Swan (hand movements). And in the final part (piano Miyako), symbolizing the death of the Swan, Asami depicts the dying Swan on stage. Since the camera at the end of the song is focused on Miyako playing the piano, Asami's "death of the Swan" was not captured in the shot. Asami added some Scandinavian mythology (Valhalla) to the lyrics. The attitudes towards death among the Japanese Samurais and the Scandinavian Vikings were very similar. For Samurais and Vikings, death in combat with weapons in their hands is a death worthy of a warrior. Death in battle is better than death from old age in your bed. All Vikings dreamed of dying in battle because then they could go to Valhalla (Hall of warriors killed in battles) where they would meet God Odin and other Vikings who fought bravely and died in arms. * LOVEBITES adds backing tracks to live performances (piano, keyboards, synthesizer, acoustic guitars, backing vocals). They pre-record these parts for concerts. You highlighted that, for example, Miyako switches from piano to guitar and back. When she plays the guitar, the piano backing track also plays. There are two options: 1. Miyako pre-records a piano part for the backing track; 2. LOVEBITES and their team (Label, management) prefer a more economical option. Besides music, it's also business. Especially when the band cannot afford (not yet) such financial costs as many European and American bands due to objective reasons.

Right, I agree with you. Backing traks expand possibility. It's just like hiring extra supporting musicians or playing with orchestra. If it is denied, Beatles, Queen, and 80 to 90% of rock bands wouldn't exist. I'm happy with more epic and rich souds with backing tracks than simple sounds of strictly original players. If backing tracks are not good, all the engineering in recording must be denied and electronic effects as well. Singers should sing without michrophones and all the instruments must be acoustic. Backing track is fair effect and fair engineering.

Miyako, like her band-mates is a beast, actually a music savant. Her brain makes her a mother, gear nerd (her YT channel is a gear nerd dream), a Star Wars nerd, a pianist, a self taught guitarist, has made an EP of 6 metal songs she converted to classic pieces, and composes and arranges many of the bands songs. She likely was composing another song while performing this on stage. While this was an epic masterpiece of composition, her band-mates performed it LIVE perfectly so that is where the insane talent lies. All bands you react to frequently use backing tracks (The Warning, Band-Maid, Rush). What they all have in common is that these tracks, mainly keyboard, piano, additional backing vocals, sometimes another guitar layer, are played by themselves when recorded, except huge orchestral or choir parts. For „small“ bands like LOVEBITES it‘s also a question of the financial budget. Miyako would love to perform Swan Song with a full orchestra and choir behind them. But I guess for that they‘ve got to become at least 10 times bigger (in terms of popularity, venue sizes, …) Only the issue to play piano and guitar at the same time couldn’t be solved with this. For LOVEBITES present world tour the stages are tiny and also for logistical reasons, Haruna’s second bass drum, Miyako’s keys, and several guitars and other gear are not with them. Their technical staff is just one guy. They have 30k listeners on Spotify like some local bands in your town. This bigger production you see on RU-vid the have for the DVD recording but it‘s not usual for their shows.

I don't care much for classical piano, or classical music in general, so it's not for me.
