That's what trichotillomania is, it's just having the recurring urge to pull out your hair 😊 It's actually pretty common, just most people don't talk about it!
Where was this video when I was in seventh grade and tweezed my eyebrows into a thin line?! But seriously, this is amazing. I love how open and transparent you are with your viewers. You aren't afraid to be real and unedited online, which I LOVE. You're a breath of fresh air in a Facetune and Photoshop world. Keep being awesome! Great video! :)
Haha I feel like we've all been there! Thankfully my mom took me to get my brows done so I wouldn't destroy them (more than I already do). But thank you! I do enjoy using Facetune and Photoshop on most of my photos, but I think it's healthy to balance out those types of posts with ones like these :)
This is absolutely amazing! I’ve dealt with trich since I was 12 and I’m finally at a stage where my brows and lashes have fully grown back after 6 years. I absolutely love your videos and your channel! You are truly inspiring
That is AMAZING!! Congrats Savannah!! That is so wonderful! I go through stages where they're fully back and when they're fully gone. Right now they're growing back and my goal is to have them all back by the spring!
Omg my name is Savannah spelled the same way and I’m 12 and I have Trich too, I hope I’m able to stop pulling so that mine can grow back fully as well :(
hi!!! i loved this tutorial!!! i was recently diagnosed with leukemia & am starting with chemotherapy & although this sounds silly, i was worried a lot about losing my hair/eyebrows/ eyelashes. i’m not too sure if i will lose all of it completely but makeup has always helped me feel confident & i will definitely be trying this out ♡
That doesn't sound silly at all! It's amazing how something so small can really impact our confidence. I never realize it until I don't have brows and eyelashes and then I really feel "less than". Most of the time I can recognize that having hair doesn't affect my value or make me any less beautiful! But it's still nice to be able to cover it up so I can choose if I want to talk about it or not (rather than people just staring or asking questions). I wish you all the best with your chemo Stephanie! I hope it goes well and I'm so sorry to hear you were diagnosed with leukemia!
kenziemacbrown thank you! i think i need to learn that even without my hair i’ll still be beautiful, the stress of being diagnosed tho has me feeling all over the place 😔 but the doctors are hopeful it’ll be gone in five years which is great news for me ♡ anyways keep being that lovely ray of sunshine u are!!! much love from california ♡
Aw god bless you sweetheart! I was scrolling through the comments and happened to see this one. I agree with Kenzie... not silly at all! Whatever makes you feel more confident and helps you get through your journey ahead. Prayers for you ❤️
Marina Carmela thank you so much!!! the doctors are very optimistic & even tho it’s scary i think i’ll be okay ☺️ i have a lot of faith in the doctors & most importantly in God 🤗☺️
@Stephanie Zelaya My prayers are going out for you. I know you can get through this. I have been in remission for 3 years more or less. May God bless you. I wish I could do more for you. You tube helped me too with wigs and makeup. Go see “Jen Luvs Reviews “, “Jackie Aina” and “Dr Dray” for a start. Great ladies! Oh, wigs, “Wigs by Pattie’s Pearls”, she will teach you a lot about wigs. I hope this information helps. Blessings
Kenzie you are so amazing for being so open about your Trichotillomania! My brother has OCD and has had a hard time being alright with some of the isms that come with it, so to see you treating an impluse control disorder normally and not making it a "thing" is really refreshing to me! You are such an inspiration and a positive force. I'm praying for you and your trichotillomania, Thank you for being such a amazing change to the usual immaturity and negativity that has characterized RU-vid as of late.
You are so sweet Ella! Thank you! My drive for creating these videos is for that purpose. I remember when I was a kid and I googled "trichotillomania" and everything that came up made it seem like this weird and horrifying thing. It only made me feel worse! Especially to see shows like My Strange Addiction cover it. I hope that in the future I can get more comfortable making videos about trich so that people can see how normal it really is! There are SO many people with it, just not a lot of people talk about it!
Thank you for this. I have suffered with trichotillomania since I was a kid and has progressively worsened over the years. My self esteem has nearly plummeted, so I thought I'd look to see if there was any tutorial for at least hiding it. Thank you so much, I'm just surprised someone even made this type of video.
hey i just wanted to say thank you so much for making this tutorial. i’ve been diagnosed with trich ever since seventh grade and it stopped becoming a daily instance a year in, however i’ve had relapses due to stress and anxiety and just plain boredom. it’s been very harmful towards my self confidence and sometimes an immediate solution is more helpful. i really do hope this disorder is destigmatized in the future since it’s one of the “less pretty” forms of mental illness. thank you so much!!
I have a Trichotillomania too and I get made fun of for not having brows and feel really embarrassed and I found your video and I’m so happy to find someone who I can relate to I’m crying
I first started in middle school and that’s also when I started makeup and let’s just say my fake eyebrows took up half my face. I have been struggling with pulling and I have to say how nice it is to see a video like this! ❤️
What an inspiration and a queen. I also suffer from Trich. I haven’t had a full set of eyelashes since highschool and I used to wear false lashes every single day. At one point, I finally gave up. There are days when I don’t feel confident. Days when I do. It’s so comforting finding other people that share that and still rock their makeup and don’t let it run their life. Thank you.
Aww I'm so sorry to hear that! I had a really bad session the other day (took out all my eyelashes). I feel like I should do an update right now since I don't have any brows or lashes (I mean I have a few, but it looks like I don't). I feel like a lot of people are probably struggling right now with everything going on!
I absolutely love this video!! Thank you for being so brave and honest like always. I admire your bravery and your creativeness!! You’re such a positive role model :)
I thought you had natural eyebrows!! Crazy they look SO good thank you so much I wish I had this when I was struggling with complete eyebrow loss due to trich
Awww thank you!! Honestly I'm still working at making them look more natural when I barely have any hairs. It's challenging! But I do feel like I've come a long way!
kenziemacbrown For me seeing a dermatologist really helped but I know it’s harder for others and sometimes it doesn’t grow back but we’re really lucky to have great products to help us out :)
Microblading will change your life. I have trich also and microblading has totally changed the game for me! I still have to fill in, but my confidence is so much higher. There’s nothing to be nervous about either as you’ll get a numbing cream put on so you wont feel a thing, and your technician will draw and show you the shape before she does anything!
I’ve honestly thought about it! But when I do have brows they look really good and I don’t think I’d need them. They would definitely help me feel more confident though!
your brows always look so natural! I’d honestly never expect your brows to be sparse at all if you didn’t share your trich with us! You’re beautiful both ways 🥰
Awww thanks Cheyanne! They're actually pretty full when they're all there! But thank you, I try to make them look as natural as possible when they're sparse, so I'm glad I've done a good job covering that up :)
I loved this tutorial!! Brows are definitely the hardest part of my makeup routine because I have a very large scar on my brow and my hair doesn’t grow there anymore so sometimes it’s very hard to cover it up to look naturally. Thanks for helping me out I’ll definitely try out some of your tips! :)
Thanks Lisanne! I bet you could easily hide that by using a gel/creme product (like the Anastasia Beverly Hills dipbrow pomade or Benefit Cosmetics Ka-Brow!). You just have to find one that matches your hair color so it blends in nicely :)
I don’t even do my eyebrows but I love this video. RU-vid needs more inclusive videos like these , I work with special needs and love videos that are more geared for individuals with unique qualities💗 you’re so beautiful inside and out
I’m having to learn how to draw on eyebrows. My trichotillimania is the worst it’s ever been right now 😢 I have no eyelashes and half of my eyebrows are gone. Thank you so much for this video!!
I have naturally SUPER light (almost transparent) eyebrows. I've always called them not-there brows because they're there but not really and ever since growing out my bangs I've been doing my brows every day and the one the thing I've been struggling with hs been how to make them look even A TINY BIT natural. So thank you again, Kenzie!! I've been sticking with my NYX Brow Powder Kit (I guess tha's what it's called?) but I can't make my brows very natural with that. New techniques and brow products, here I come! 💛
If you have brows but they're transparent, I would try using a product like the Gimme Brow (rstyle.me/n/ct2wdqby6ux). It coats your lashes and adds color to make them look fuller! If I have brows (or slightly more brows than I have right now) this is my FAVORITE product to use! I feel like it really amps them up, and it's super quick/easy to use. I think you'd really like it if you haven't tried it yet!
This video was so so helpful! I only have hairs in the front half of my brow and I’ve always had trouble filling them in naturally. This is the first tutorial I’ve seen for sparse brows and it was very useful❤️
I'm so glad! I've found that filling in your brows at the front is the most challenging. It's super easy to accidentally overdo it and have them look SUPER unnatural. I would try just filling them in with a pencil or the gel using the hair-like strokes method. From what I've found that really makes my brows as close to "normal" when they're sparse!
I’m part of a Facebook page but unfortunately Its either parents of like 11 year olds or like 50 year olds so I feel worse about myself being 21 and dealing with it since middle school
Thank you SO much for doing this! I don't do my brows because it is a littlw overwhelming (product wise) and I don't want to look like a clown. This was super helpful! And I love the color of your sweater, one of my favorite colors as well!
Thanks Chandra! Brows are tricky, I still feel like mine aren't exactly where I want them - but it's a work in progress! Also I'm wearing this sweater right now, too funny! It's one of my favorites - both for the color and it's SUPER cozy too
Brows seem difficult to get 100% all the time.. And maybe its a case that perfect is worse than mistakes, so maybe brows are meant to be a work in progress by nature. 😉And too funny about the sweater! Hope you have a good one!
This is so helpful! I loved that you did the tutorial all the way through -- it was great to see how you use the product specifically. I'm SO self conscious about my brows and I'm going to use this tomorrow morning to see how I can experiment and make it work for me! As always, I love you watch your videos!
Thanks Samantha! I was worried it would get boring, but I know I always appreciate seeing other RU-vidrs include the entire process in their videos! Let me know how they turned out! Honestly I'm always adjusting and tweaking my brow process. I feel like it's one of those things that takes a LOT of practice and I'm always trying to improve my techniques!
@@kenziemacbrown It certainly helped with my shape and process! I think I need to up my brow product. I've been getting by on the drugstore pencils, but they're too thick to draw those thin lines and get the tail of the brow precise. It will take practice, but I'm so glad to have somebody like you as a makeup guru guide! :)
There's actually a lot of reasons why people may not have full brows (outside of trich)! I just feel like not a lot of people talk about it, so I'm hoping to help normalize it more :)
Thanks Katie! I was - I have lots of expression lines and I've found if I don't set them with powder then the foundation will settle in them and make them really stand out. So I'll usually bake my forehead so they look smoother!
I also have trich since 3rd grade, i ended up going too far again and half my brows are gone, huge beginner in makeup and honestly im kind of worried to try this but still want to try. also i haven't had lashes in years because they're my go to to pick...
I can relate to this SO much. I finally got my brows microbladed and it was the best decision ever! It's so nice to wake up looking like I have some sort of brows. They don't look completely there but at least I have a nice "base" to use. I feel like I tend to alternate between brows and lashes. My lashes are full right now but I can feel myself starting to create gaps in them. To me lashes are the hardest to "fake" when they're not there and I'm really hoping I can get through this and not pull them out.
I struggle with getting them both looking similar. :( One is usually higher than the other when I create them from nothing. :( I pull my eyebrows out sometimes too. So embarassing but it makes me feel validated or not as kukoo when I hear that others do this too. But it is still sad. Thank you for making this video.
You should try this combo .. Anastasia brow wiz brow powder duo , and the clear brow gel . First I define everything with the pencil . Most of my brows are done with the pencil . The powder I mix both colors to fill any areas that need it . then blend and seal in the color with the clear brow gel . I have dark hair like you and after trying soft brown and medium brown I finally found the perfect color . Taupe. You wouldn’t think that color would match but it does . It looks natural and not harsh . I’m obsessed with her products . Nothing like it .
I used to use Taupe when my hair wasn't so dark and I loved it! I might have to try it again! At least using it as a base and then using a darker color to create "hairs". I also used to use their brow gel, but because it gets so crispy I actually found it made my hair pulling issues worse. Because it added texture I found it harder for me not to want to remove it. And when I removed it I inevitably would pull out hairs too. So I'm still working on finding a brow gel that makes my brows look fuller, without creating a crispy texture.
kenziemacbrown I know exactly what you mean about the crispy feeling .. mine did that at first too .. I then realized I was using too much product. I run the brush up against the top to take off some of it . I find when I do that they don’t feel like they would if I didn’t do that . Yes give that a try again . I make the hair strokes as well but I blend a little extra because I do have the hair there . In your situation you need that there to feel like the brow is completely filled out . But the powder helps so much in those areas for sure . Nevertheless yours look great 🥰🥰
Are you thinking of when you have gaps in your lashes or when you have no lashes? I'm really picky with my false lashes because you're right, a lot of them do look unnatural. I could recommend some that look a little bit more natural!
Next to the corner of the eye is tricky! I honestly haven't found anything to help with that (or at least to hide it). If I have gaps in the middle section of my lashes I'll usually use the individual lashes (like these as an example: bit.ly/2FoCOaX) to fill them in. But if I'm missing more than a section or two I'll usually just use a full set of lashes. I really like a lot of the lashes from House of Lashes! I'll usually use lashes from their "lite" collection if I want a more natural look (like the Iconic Lite lashes for example). I hope that helps!
Thanks Emily! I always get my brow products in the darkest shade! So with Benefit it's the shade 06, with Urban Decay it's the shade "dark drapes" and Ebony or Dark Brown for Anastasia Beverly Hills!
Hi Kenzie! I’m so glad you made this video, I’ve been looking forward to it and I love your techniques to how you did the sparse look.😊❤️.. I’m kind of in the process of letting mine grow and it hasn’t been easy because they are coming back in different directions and I find myself using a lot of product and have gravitated to a more bold look which I know is too much ( I guess it makes me feel more covered 😅) but I really do wanna start creating a more natural look like yours..how long do your products usually last?
I can totally relate! The growing process is difficult because they don't come back even and I found my trich is mainly a result of me wanting to "fix" my brows and make them even! Haha the products will last a while! If you're using just one (let's say the pencil) every day, maybe a few months. But when you use a little bit of each they last much longer!
kenziemacbrown You got that right 😅...That’s good, I may go and give those a try then I really did feel like they gave your brows a realistic natural look, I could hardly tell that it was makeup vs a full brow 😊❤️ your so pretty Kenzie, keep going with everything... I admire that you don’t let trich stop you, your accomplishments and everything your doing is inspiring 😊 your so awesome!
Thank you!! This is so helpful ❤️ I think the hardest part besides making them look natural is making them look remotely even lol. Usually one comes out great and the other is not as fortunate haha 😩
Thanks Jillian!! I totally agree! I feel like mine always look off and I'm still trying to get better at that! I've definitely improved in doing my brows, but I still have lots of room for improvement. But when it comes to liking one brow over the other - I have lots of makeup friends that I've talked to and EVERYONE has the same problem. My left brow always looks better than my right. I don't know if it's a thing, but I've heard there's a lot of people that also think their left brow is better than their right too! Go figure!
have been ripping out my hair since i was 11. now im almost 17. i rip out everything from my lashes, brows, leg hair, armpit hair, every place on my body that has hair. i thought it was only me as i always told that it was a bad thing. im muslim, and family and the classmates at the islamic school i went to told me that plucking eyebrows was a sin and i was cursed by god. i always got into trouble for it, nobody ever really believed me when i told them i had no ability to control it. i only heard of the word trichotillomania when i read an article about a victoria secret model who suffered from it. it made me realise that other people had the same problem as me. i cant open up to my family due to their religious beliefs and i cant really stop. i need help. im literally trying to control my urges as i watch this video
Thank you for sharing your experience! I had no idea about the implications of having trichotillomania and being Muslim, I can imagine how much more difficult that would make things when faith is involved! I hope that in some way my video could help you feel less alone!
I remember in school my friend told me i looked different but she didn't know why and then she noticed I'd pulled all my eyelashes out. I have ocd, but didn't realise i was pulling my eyelashes out where its a condition. Unfortunately i pull my eyelashes and eyebrows out as an adult. No idea why but i hate myself. Never had full lashes or eyebrows and cant do good makeup
You are not alone! There are so many people that struggle with it, but people are afraid to talk about because there’s generally a lot of shame around it!
It takes a lot of practice! It's challenging because our brows are different every day. Like as soon as I feel confident about the way I do my brows, I'll have a pulling spree and completely change the shape of them. It's very frustrating, and you're not alone in feeling that way!
I have trich too and I've been pulling my eyebrows alot more than usual. I was able to have the front fully grown in but now I've been having those urges again.. I just feel ashamed right now😞
I have another video from a year ago talking about my experiences with it. When I really thought about it I realized there were definitely seasonal trends with my pulling. I'd have full lashes/brows in the summer, but pull them out to practically nothing in the fall. But then they'd regrow in the spring! Maybe you're similar to me with that cycle. Realizing I had more of a cycle brought me some comfort and helped me feel less ashamed.
@@kenziemacbrown yeah I also realized I mainly pull them out at night or when I'm feeling highly stressed or have anxiety. I currently have bandaids on both my fore fingers right now to try and stop the urges.
Idont know what account you'll respond to but I really appreciate your Disney videos because about a month ago me and my girlfriend broke up and we both loved Disney and I recently went and I was just thinking about her do it was kinda hard but watching your videos made me feel happy and love Disney even more I send you this on Instagram but thank you
You're so nice, thank you! I'm so glad my videos can help in some way! I have a Disney video I'll be posting soon (I think Friday), so be on the lookout for that! I also don't check/respond to DMs frequently, but I do make a point to try to respond to all of the comments on my videos on RU-vid!
Depending on the product, it shouldn't come off. Some products stick better (dipbrow pomade, liquids, ink stains), while others tend to come off easier (brow pencils and powders). But the products I used in this video don't come off very easily!
