@@dustborn84 same here about five years ago tho found them listening to the devil makes three radio and to tell truth I don't know who I like better . Have been lucky enough to see tdm3 live twice tho and was killer both times
When I first heard this as the theme opening song for the SyFy series ''Resident Alien'' (2020), it's almost impossible to unhear it. I can't believe how addictive the guitar riff can be.
Just discovered this band, and am sad to hear that the singer has passed away. :( R. I. P. Despite all, I look forward to listening to what he left behind. The human body may pass away, but music lasts for an eternity.
Never fear. We are pure eternal expanded consciousness. The human body dies but we the spirit living within the human body to experience the human experience on the Earthly plain will forever live on. We can never cease to exist as we are made directly from godsource which is the source of everything. God Bless ❤️✌️🙏
His flesh may have died but his spirit lives on. For death is only the beginning of a new beginning, that also goes for that everything that is destroyed is created. For ever death a new beginning is created.
so absolutely sad that dave is not here any longer, to bring us these intense songs. you and morgan are an incredible musical team. rest in peace brother
It don’t matter if the cold wind blows I’m gonna wind up working in the thick of it Sunshine through the rain and snow There’s an oily brine bilge water baptism waiting below That’s just the waves slamming against the topsides’ sound Don’t let the ever rolling motion go and get you down Don’t let it shake your steady thread cutting hand Keep stealing ribbons from the steel and giving hell To every halyard you can In spite of all the wherewithal To fight it all I will face it all In spite of all the wherewithal To fight it all I’ll embrace it all When everyday’s like a war between the will to go on And a wish that the world would spiral into the sun Turn your head toward the storm that’s surely coming along If the sun was always shining and our load always light We’d be shaking like a leaf with every God given night And we’d break under the weight of any pressure That was ever applied Will you be ready when the straw boss calls? He’s got an ever loving bone to pick with one and all Don’t let his condescension get you down Just have the strength to know you’re wrong And when you’re right the strength to stand your ground In spite of all the wherewithal To fight it all I will face it all In spite of all the wherewithal To fight it all I’ll embrace it all When everyday is like a war You find no strength from your usual source There’s no peace, there’s no rest Your fortitude is feeling put to the test When everyday is like a war between the will to go on And a wish that the world would spiral into the sun Turn your head toward the storm that’s surely coming along If the sun was always shining and our load always light We’d be shaking like a leaf with every God given night And we’d break under the weight Of any pain that ever came in this life
This is about as close as anyone can get to a perfect song. Driving instruments; powerful lyrics; killer vocals and harmony. I consider this one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. RIP, David Lamb.
I hope to ever find this song in a vinyl and listen to it in the loudest way possible. I’m Cuban and this song took my will to the next level. Thanks to the great human who wrote it.
This song came to me during one of the toughest parts of my life...its exactly what I needed to hear. In spite of all, the wherewithal, to fight it all, I'll embrace it all.
This song encapsulates every day life as a NCO Boatswains mate on a larger cutter… a seaman’s life isn’t for everyone but for the lucky few that it is for there’s a romanticism between man and the sea that can’t be explained and that life becomes more of an addiction and less an occupation… I miss it every day but this song brings me right back… thank you Dave may you rest in power and thank you brown bird for making this beautiful music
My heart is BEYOND SAD...As a musician, Dave and MorganEve are the best there is. Dave's parents are my friends and my love and I had the fortunate pleasure of sitting front row at House of Blues here in Los Angeles and met them finally and heard them ever so clearly...perfection existed that night and I'm just so sorry that perfection doesn't exist in this living life. Definition of musical perfection is David Lamb and MorganEve. David Lamb, musician, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. RIP Brother. We will keep fighting for you!!!
This song has been on repeat all day as tears flew down my eyes typing this. I love you big brother. Morgan may God keep you in his arms. Xoxox rip bro
This moves me so deeply - just learning about this band and the sad loss of David Lamb. Such a great treasure, this music - I'm now hooked on this sound forever.
Then we would be purposeless. We need something to press against, or we’d collapse under nothing but our weight weight. How pathetic would that be? Not every tree branch is meant to be kept.
Why isn't this darker shade of country more popular? This is the sort of stuff that should be getting airtime. There has to be a much larger audience for it than people realize.
I was sad to hear he'd passed by the time I discovered his music. His songs- their lyrics- are the kind that keeps me going. This is not an easy life, but every challenge makes us stronger, and we'll damn well trudge and scrape and work until the storm passes, until we get to the end.
Everyday I listen to Dave's music, it just moves me, what an awesome song writer he was. RIP David Lamb one of the best song writers ever to walk this planet!
I listened to this at least a thousand times no bs before resident alien n when the intro played.. I was ecstatic. His dad must be at least proud his son's music is getting out there
6-11-16, my 22 year old son turned me on to this. totally new to the rest but i will get to it. Think on this.....what if everyone could sing just one song that had that much soul to it. the world would literally be a better place. as he DID sing the song, he changed the world to those with open ears and mind.
Every time I listen to this I imagine a soft breeze blowing, trees swaying along the sun peeking through and Mr. Lamb picking on his guitar along the banks of a gently flowing river.
This is one of only a handful of country style songs that I listen to on a regular basis. I'm not sure what it is, but I really am sad that this artist has passed, he was truly talented. RIP
Obvi, I heard this before then, but I was first made aware of the band from the "What We Do In The Shadows" intro credits! So imagine my delight when I heard this on a new series, too! Good for them! I wish the main singer was still alive to experience that. Rest in peace, my dude..
I just discovered brown bird and came to RU-vid to find more and I'm sad to hear Dave died. Very talented individual, glad he was able to leave an impression after his passing.
It is a life miss that I discovered Brown Bird after his passing. Their music has been indelible, so gritty and all I need and desire to define the time.
This song is so amazing! I got it pretty easy in life but I’m glad people who really need this music are finding it. So powerful and really a true shame that we won’t hear his like again. You will be and are missed David.
Lord, I love this song. It's been my added strength for almost two years now. Almost like getting momentum to make a move, it lays into my soul. For the fears to conquer, the tears to dry and the heart to use love as a tool to beat what's eating at you. I keep this song close to me. These lyrics and rhythm have kept me in some of my worst times. It's almost like its saying that it's ok. Live good and fight is the feel. Thank you dear soul that laid this to ear and heart. You helped me from afar.
Beautifully put. I know this is an old comment and I don't usually comment on things, but this message really resounded with me! I feel much the same way; this song has gotten me through some rough times, especially over the past couple of years. ♥
Listened to this religiously a few years back. In the kitchen while my sister is watching the Alan Tudyk alien show and think, man this rhythm sure is familiar. Such a good song.
I was ecstatic when I heard this song used as the opening credits for Resident Alien. Though kinda disappointed that after the first episode the opening was an even smaller portion. And sad that the comments here aren't filled with "Resident Alien sent me here" comments as most songs used in popular media often are haha (mostly because that means not many even realize this is the song used in the opening) :c
I call it Southern Rock with a slight Appalachian Bluegrass influence. And yeah, I grew up in the South hearing music like this at the Cumberland Bluegrass Festival which really had all kinds of music and all types of people gettin along and havin a good ol time.
I was a bilge rat. usn en1 was always ragged on about a being a skanky assed bilge rat . so much so that i was branded bograt because of my name . this brings back the best memories in my life. perfect tune , thank you ! Fair winds and following seas ! Rest in peace, David.

Holy jeez, it took me 11 years to find your music!? Where have you been my whole life!? Well, 10 years to be sure. I hear the same syncopation Tool employed. Mixed with a little scream of the butterfly. I'm very impressed. I like it too much! This should be top 100 billboard. I found you from a dark country compilation video. This is a genre I can really sink my teeth into. Great for working on a car. Hey, thanks for leaving the comments on. It pisses me off when an artist say, I don't care what you have to say. Good or bad keep your opinions to yourself.
Every time I hear this song on pandora I screen shot it to remember to go back to it- I have like 20 shots of this song- I absolutely love it!! Amazing- well done sir, a true talent.
2012 was a hard year for me and 2013 was no better. I found this bands sound not more than 6 months ago. I really wish I had these gems to help me through those times but being on the other side of pain and hearing those words from someone with a profound look on his own future is prolific. Thank you for blessing this world (and me) with your gift.
I saw this band a few nights ago at Isle of Palms SC playing with Devil makes three and holy cow what a show!!! best concert i've ever been too! huge thumbs up to this band!
I was so excited and happy to hear this song on resident alien. I've loved brown bird forever, MorganEve Swain and her husband are brilliant. Dave's passing was such a loss. Sending love to Brown Bird.
The first time we saw Brown Bird was at Fete when they opened for DM3. Dave opened sitting in a chair, and played this song alone. The place was silent - then the place erupted at the finish. Its one of the experiences you never forget
