Thanks Lauren! You give lots of options for the strumming on this song. I know that if I'm not quite ready for one of them, that there is another option to default too. This is a great song option because it uses the 4 chord changes I've been working on as a part of your Beginners Online Course.

I'm 78 as of 3 days ago lol and played bass in a band back in 62=64. sometimes sat in with a band for a song or two. Haven't really played one in 50 years. Did back up The Rightous Bros. once. and when in the service backed up Dick and Dee Dee while in Japan. Now i'm learning Guitar and know the cords you are showing. I just have trouble playing and singing together. I get out of the strum pattern and have problems in general with patterns. I'm sure i'm doing things wrong such as hand movements and placements. Fret hand is fine. I type alot so finger dexterity isn't a problem. just have sore fingers because i don't practice every day which i know i should do. I like the way you teach but i don't think i need alot of the basics you teach. I can play bar cords but don't much. I prefer playing coungry mousic or the old songs like brown eyed girl etc. like we played in late 50's, early 60's. I just wanted to let you know a little about what i know. I'm debating now on live streaming playing a guitar. and singing songs. I have live streamed some so i know how to do that.

Keep it simple. I have my hands full just keeping the strum timing, chord changes in the right place and singing the words at the same time. I'm waiting for it to magically all come together for me. Thanks so much. Located near Tampa - just dodged Hurricane Irma - we were very lucky this time.

@@bscher5003 I also struggle with this- chord changes/beat/strumming all together at same/correct time seems impossible to me & am not comprehending the way Lauren shows most of the time. I wonder if there's another way of demonstrating it that helps us somehow?

I can't figure out how to strum the pattern softly. Always sounds aggressive. Any advice for that?

Make sure to breathe. And trying lighter pick might help until your wrist loosens up.

One of my fave ever songs but certainly doesn't seem simple to me! Another one I can't seem to figure out where the chord changes go in relation to the strum pattern & beat! Am I putting the cart before the horse trying to do the DDU UDU stuff? It sounds so much better than DDDD only (tho I haven't really tried to play a whole song yet as I struggle even to get past doing a few chords together! So wanna jus crack it somehow- there must be a way of making it happen somehow :(

Yes, you are putting the cart before the horse on this one. Have you tried Lean on Me or Wonderful Tonight? Check out: www.laurenbateman.com/beginner-guitar-songs and try to stick with either the A, D E songs or the G, Em, C, D songs and keep the strumming patterns simple. Are you in my online course Merrilyn?

I couldn't even find 'description' when you suggested it elsewhere! Dead set self confessed dummy here I can tell you, but I'm trying hard (A for effort, right)?

Still working on this but the D chord progressing text stays at the top left hand corner the whole time you are playing from Whatever happened to Tues... & so on confusing & distracting:(

Hey Gerry, what seems to be the issue? The chords? The strumming? Do you need an easier strumming pattern? I find I can help people better when they tell me what's wrong.

I also struggle to comprehend how it all goes together, its hard for me to see where Laurens fingers are (chords) & she seems to go too fast for me (by the time I figure what one chord was she's moved on & I jus lose it all).. my memory isn't good enough to remember what chord order etc she said at beginning... aaarrggghhh. Maybe there are some of who just shouldn't play? Or is everyone teachable somehow?
