On our visit to Panama staying in Canopy Tower (the old US radar tower) we were fortunate to be able to watch a lot of the wildlife at eye level. The upper levels of the tower are at rainforest canopy height making a great experience. As we visited during June it was fruiting season and the sloths were in abundance eating the unusual pods on the trees. The three toed sloth, which only has 3 toes on the front feet distinguishing it from the two-toed species (as all sloths have 3 toes on their rear feet) is strictly arboreal only defending to the ground to "do its business" once a week. The male 3-toed has an amazing coloured blaze across its back. If you look carefully you can see moths which feed off the algae on the sloth's coat.
