Brown Trout Fishing In Small Streams And Remote Lochs (my biggest trout yet)

This is the day that may have just converted me to a trout fisherman. Big spotted brown trout in tiny streams and remote hill lochs on the west coast of Scotland - some of the most exciting and truly wild fly fishing I’ve ever done. We didn’t see another person all day and the action was constant. Seriously, have I been chasing the wrong fish for the past 30 years? Thank you to Alex for acting as guide for the day.

Same in SW Scotland, loads of free fishing great hill lochs. My biggest is 14pounds from more or less a ditch that nobody would probably think of fishing on the first day of the season in the snow. Full of leeches, frogs and other rich feeding.

What a lovely place to fish! Where are all the trees? Nice way to see the landscape when there are no trees but for me this is really spooky. Thank you for producing that video. I am not a fisherman as I find fishing boring but walking along those streams taking pictures must be awesome.

The increase in deer and sheep in the highlands over the last few hundred years have totally stripped the areas of trees. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xWwE0-3_YXQ.html great interesting video about the highland landscape

Trees are a scare resource in Scotland because of widescale historic cutting and removal over the past 9000 years. We are one of the most nature-depleted countries in Europe. The government is slowly fixing this but at the current rate, we would not reach respectable native woodland cover (50%) for almost 1000 years. Because we killed and shot all of the bear and lynx, the deer population keeps growing and they eat all the native flowers and tree shoots. The only real option is to convince estate owners who own vast swathes of land to remove deer pressure entirely, either through annexation or shooting them all for good, allowing for widespread renaturalization of the environment. This is extremely difficult because they see it as part of their heritage (even though the practise is only about 150 years old).

bob, i do this over the west coast at torridon and over every single hill you will see dozens of these little lochs, some have hundreds of fish only 6 inches and the next one 100 yards away will have fish 10-12 inches! the thing i notice is the colour of them, some will be almost black while the next one will have a butter yellow belly and they hit a bushy fly on the surface like a misslie! dont go looking for big fish into the 5-10lb mark, they will be small but you may see some over a pound, but they fight like they are twice the size! it's great fun and the scenery is stunning....but after may always carry a midgie net

@@onetireddad unless you see a 'no fishing' sign its usually ok to fish, and if someone does approach you they'll just point out you cant fish here! but mostly its all free the same as the pike fishing! but stay away from lochs at the roadside, the lazy anglers fish these, travel light and head for the hills and you will come across some great sport! i found one at torridon called fiddlers loch, the most picturesque loch you'll see, its only 300 yards long but it has bays, sandy bottom, stoney bottom, lilly pads, silty bottom, weed beds, sunken trees, rocky points and a decent depth, it seems to have everything in it! i can go there and catch 30 trout in 3 or 4 hours, its a 45 minute walk but totally wild

Wonderful place, (Scotland) however not a place that is easy to fish. Just about every drop of water is owned by a person or club. You need a permit to fish just about every drop of water. However, having a permit doesn’t cover you for the entire body of water you are fishing. In other words, let’s say you are fishing a river, you need a permit to fish between this tree and that tree, you need a separate permit to fish that tree to that tree, etc. not a fisherman friendly place, especially if you are a tourist. It’s my understanding you do not need a permit if you are fishing the sea but who goes there for that? Also it is my understanding there are other places to fish for free but if you ask ten people you will get different answers. It’s a shame really, beautiful place but not very accommodating. If anything I have said is wrong please correct me, but that has been my experience. Hope I have just been going about it all wrong, please fill me in if I have, I go to Scotland every other year with my family and would love to have a complete understanding of how things work.
@danielmackenzie680

I've lived on the Isle of Lewis for 40 years. You can fish for trout virtually anywhere. Just the Salmon Lochs and rivers that are heavily regulated. No permit is needed to fish for trout.
@2msvalkyrie529
@2msvalkyrie529 2 года назад
Sorry but I agree with Daniel ( below ). There are dozens / hundreds of hill lochs where you could fish all day without a permit . Basically anywhere where you won't catch Salmon or Sea trout which are generally carefully watched. As for names etc - it's madness to give out names unless you want to find the place swamped with visitors . Get an O S map and look for yourself ? As for the loch here : Iasg Mor - there are probably 40 lochs with that name in the Highlands !!
@alexthegamer6906
@alexthegamer6906 2 года назад
@@2msvalkyrie529 I don't agree. Most places require a permit or at least permission. Permission might be free but you've got to ask. Most highland loch trout fishing is very affordable and permits or permissions cover many lochs.

You don't agree ?? I live on the West Coast and there are at least a dozen small locus and burns near me where you can with no permit ?! I regularly visit the Hebrides . Same there. ! Estate owners are only concerned about Migratory fish. I don't know where you live but wherever it is you need to get out more !!
