This is a must see video for anyone who wants to smooth up the trigger on their Hi-Power. Good thing there is a pause button if you need to follow along.

I eliminated the mag disconnect, polished everything as needed, replaced all springs to BH springs including the lighter trigger spring. Pre measured at 8 lb. Post measured at 5 lb. Clean and crisp now.

maybe a little more zoom and less of the tools on the table. Good information but hard to see areas inside frame from so far out

The magazine disconnect goes AWAY in my Hi Powers. I do the old Nazi occupation build, and simply omit the magazine safeties completely. You need to get into the frame and polish where the trigger actuator slides up and down, take the lever out of the slide, polish that, and the groove it sits into. I won't recommend removing metal from the hammer, but I do remove some metal, and I face the sear to the hammer & mate those with smoke and honing stones, but I did have a Hi Power jump the halfcock notch on the sear, ONCE, so I did have a negligent discharge/malfunction. In 35 years I had it happen ONCE. Once is one time too many, so if you have never faced a 1911, don't touch that sear & hammer mating surface with a file or a stone. If I have a MkIII it's not an issue. After you polish with one compound wipe the part super clean before you move to the finer compound. YOU DO NOT WANT TO CROSS CONTAMINATE YOUR FELT BOBS WITH COARSER POLISH! I have the Cylinder & Slide ambi safeties, but I would like to try the BHSS ones. There are 3 sear sizes, but if you have a bigger sear, you a very old Hi Power.

Weird how the Canadians, the SAS, FBI HRT, etc didn't realize that they had to remove the magazine disconnect on their High Powers in order to get a good trigger pull. You would think at least the Canadian, British SAS, FBI HRT, etc specialized units dealing with terrorists who could do any mods they felt made for a better weapon didn't realize they should remove the magazine disconnect! No RU-vid geniuses existed at the time to point that out to them, I suppose... I handled dozens, probably hundreds of Inglis High Powers during my 30 year career as a paratrooper and small arms instructor. A couple of times I brought a trigger pull gauge into the armory lockup: the HP's generally showed a trigger pull of around 5 lbs and the M16 service rifle variants scaled at about 8 lbs. The army gun plumbers don't do any custom work on any of the weapons: annual first line maintenance where they inspect for defects and excessive wear and gauge all the springs to see whether they're within spec or need replacing with a new spring that is within spec.

Is this polishing kit still available? The link is bad and I can't find it on the website.

You need to explain something on your video sometime about that SFS system. I have worked with a Browning hi-power with that system. And at no time did I ever engage that by pushing the hammer forward I merely put the safety on and it would automatically drop the hammer and when you went to take the safety off it would automatically cock the hammer. At no time did I manipulate my grip or I could push forward the hammer. I still don't understand that. Because I've worked with two different guns at both of them when you push the safety on drops the hammer. What's up with this? I am considering it having it put on my Argentine military high power. Or I might just get just the smaller spur hammer and change out the hammer. Carrying a firearm cock and lock does not bother me in the slightest. If police officers can walk around with cock Glocks with no safety on the wood so freaking ever. I think I'm on Much Higher Ground than police officers who want to carry a firearm around with no safety on them. How they haven't been charged in court with gross negligence is beyond me.

If you have a gun that drops the hammer when you put the safety on then you've got a gun with a decocker.

Wouldn't shooting 1000 rounds do pretty much the same thing?

Actually no.

@@richardellison7365 Bzzzztttt... wrong. Actually, yes. Saying "no" is the mark of somebody who doesn't have much experience with these pistols (or other handguns that the action also improves with use i.e. revolvers). I handled dozens (probably as many as a couple of hundred) of Inglis High Powers in my 30 years in the infantry where I was regularly tasked as a small arms instructor. Pretty much all those Inglis pistols had a trigger pull around 5 lbs and were smooth from use. All the gun plumbers do for annual first line maintenance is check for defects and measure all springs to ensure they're within spec or replace. They don't do any customizing, polishing, etc. My personal C series FN High Power was at a 5 lb. trigger pull within a few months of purchasing it new - simply from shooting it regularly for both fun and practice. All I've done is regular spring changes and installed an adjustable rear sight somewhere back around 1979.
