Welcome to Istanbul!
We have been testing the BRT-system in Istabul! A great bus system whre buses are departing several times each minute. This is important to help move people in ths huge city with more than 20 million inhabitants.

Love the attention to details and I'm happy that Istanbul is gathering the attention of people around the world who are interested in public transport. Latest years have been full of public transport line expansions and the city is enjoying the new public transport opportunities as well as new walkable areas in the city. Additionally, there are in-house electric vehicles that's expected to take over the Istanbul's Metrobus line. They are more of trains with with rubber tires than buses and they have autopilot capabilities (thanks to the virtual rail technology that rely on new guide lines installed on to the metrobus driveway). They also boast significantly higher capacity even than the brand-new Akia buses, afaik On the topic of old vehicles, I think the M1 line's ABB trains take the cake in that regard. They've been in service since 1989, so they've been a source of nostalgia for me. They get *quite loud* when they pick up speed. Still, I'll miss them when they'll eventually get replaced by newer trains from ABB or some other company (Metro Istanbul has tested some Hyundai Rotem stock on that line but the tests didn't continue for some reason)

Thank you for visiting Istanbul, I hope you had a nice time. Citaros in the İETT fleet are 2005 models. Although most of them have extremely noisy gearboxes and appear to be worn out, they are still intact and continually working. The M4 metro is also famous for its noise and damp smell. I wish you had taken the old CapaCitys on the metrobus line.

The greatest enemy of a BRT system is demand. This looks severely inefficient compared to 75-100 meter long trams.

i know but it is good to build a brt system once in a while right

@@thizbinoman Bus priority is always good and in many places a BRT system is sufficient. But you get the capacity you pay for and BRT is cheaper than light rail and light rail is cheaper than metro and heavy rail.

@@thizbinoman Yes but you gotta plan wisely so you don't shoot yourself in the foot and have the system become a curse in the long run.

The Istanbul BRT has a capacity of 30,000 people per hour. What tram line or light rail corridor has that capacity?
@drdewott9154
@drdewott9154 2 месяца назад
@@usernameryan5982 At that level, the BRT's biggest difficulty is operating cost, running a line with so many buses to move that many people is extremely expensive to a citys operating budget. Just because its possible doesnt make it practical. Especially in places where bus drivers have fair wages. But even in cases like this, you can easily have tram lines with vehicles capable of holding 500 passengers going every 2 minutes ot so, leading to the same rough capacity at a much lower operating cost, due to needing fewer paid staff for the number of people moved.

Unless this brt service directly branches out into various bus services, it clearly needs upgrade to at least CityTrain rail (at least high-capacity light rail seen elsewhere in Istanbul, in Manila, in Mexico, in Germany)
