Bruce Boxleitner talks Babylon 5 on HBO Max, loss of Mira Furlan & other memories from the show 

They should have made a movie where their characters were brothers.

I've said that since I saw Bruce the first time.. ;-)

I always called him "Not Bruce Willis." I'm glad he had noticed it himself and had a sense of humor about it.

Rob, Capt. Sheridan better than every Trek commander. Apart from maybe Picard. And even then I think he beats Picard on the military leadership side.

They should have done a mirror universe B5 episode with the John Sheridan from the holovid 500 years in the future just to poke DS9 in the ribs

Speaking of, did you know that Bruce Boxleitner isn't the only Babylon 5 actor who was also in Tron. Peter Jurasik (Londo) played Crom in the Movie.

I just read recently, after her death, that a lot of her parts were based off what was going on in her home country at the time.

Mira's passing is one of those few where an actor reaching the end of their life cuts you to the heart. Delenn was a stellar character and her love story with Sheridan was so wonderful and tragic in its turns of fate. It hits me very hard personally as the development of the relationship between my wife and I had echoes of it, except that she was the one that dies young (cancer got her at 42), and I have sat watching the sun come up as Delenn did for John ... so every time I watch that particular episode I dissolve in tears as you can imagine.

Yeah. The dialogue in a vacuum was corny. But in the scene, with the actors and they way it was all presented it felt real - though still corny. You just felt great about it no matter what. It was amazing.

@@xellos5262 the context was powerful. The B5 crew and the rebels were running around and no one knew what to do. John calls his father in a rare moment of alone time and gets a typical adult-son conversation, but Sheridan is incredibly tense knowing his family are on Earth and in incredible danger. His father is very calm and even jokes the neighbors like him and Sheridan's mother. We are led to think the elder Sheridan is in mortal danger yet in the present it is John Sheridan who risks dying along with the millions on the station.

I feel that pain everyday! Such amazing actors!!!!

I just heard about Mira passing today .I hadn't kept up with the cast in a long time but when I saw the wikipedia page regarding the show being remastered I was stunned and really saddened to see just how many of them were gone 😢 I knew about Andreas but not all the other ones. I absolutely loved that show .I grew up with it and got a lot of people reeled into it and even people who weren't sci-fi fans .This was a show that can draw you in no matter what your fictional preference is . Every week I used to have get togethers with friends and family to watch the show on my big screen TV and the surround sound going . I was sad to see the show come to an end but they did it on a high note and with style .There will never be another one like it .

Can't forget about Stephen Furst... the guy that played Vir Cotto.

@MasterOnion North Travelers? I love and miss that series - don't know any fans of it, but it was a well written series with characters you care about - reminded me of something JMS would write.

Absolutely right, Pete. I am a great fan od Sci-Fi shows and have been dissapointed a few times along the way. Babylon 5 has never dane that (not even with Grey 17).

DS9 and Babylon 5 have no equals. They're both more than sci fi.

Couldnt agree more, i was 10 when this came out, i t was absolutely the coolest thing id ever seen. i still re-watch this series over and over till this day. there was nothing like it and there still is nothing that compares till this day.

I've been recently watching the show on dvd again and I believe that scene you mentioned was in a season2 ep I have just watched. Awesome scene indeed.

Me too, at a convention in London. He came across as a genuine friendly guy.

And me... A book-signing in Sheffield. Though the event was over and they were all packing up, he still took the time to chat with me and sign my copy of his novel. Such a warm and genuine man.

Met Bruce at Phoenix Comicon for an anniversary reunion. They say to never meet your heroes, but I had loved Bruce ever since Tron and he did not disappoint in person

True.zI have two,iirc,of some of the music CDs. The sjow was groundbreaking in a lot of ways-allowed by it being an smaller independent production.

Am a Star Trek fan, can confirm. Star Trek, Babylon 5, and The Orville all have my undying love, and all for different reasons. But my world would be missing critical pieces if I hadn't experienced all of them.

I still remember that on first broadcast in Australia, B5 was put up against Deep Space 9. Being a trekkie, I was watching DS9 and flipping over in the ad breaks, out of curiosity. By the end of the first season of B5, it was the other way around, I was tuning into B5 and not really bothering with Trek. Oddly when I watch the DS9 story arc, I think they were actually poaching a lot of aspects of their show from Babylon 5. The religious significance, the war, the notion of destiny.

@@peter.24.7 There have been lots of debates among fans about this. But JMS relates that the Trek producers saw his early treatment for B5, and then they created DS9. It's totally true.

The DS9 production staff had the B5 " Bible" for over a YEAR after they " passed" on B5 far too many " coincidences " between the two

I know what you mean. But a sad fact is some of them had some serious life long illnesses. But it never showed in their acting. and a couple had some vices that caught up with them. and a couple just got sick and never recovered. No matter the reasons they were part of over lives even if we never met them personally and they are sadly missed. May we meet them all in a place where no shadows fall

Especially the psy-cor and Ministry of Peace stuff. 😳

Major Scarecrow and Mrs. King fangirl since the 80s. Not gonna lie: Bruce was the one who gave me an in into B5, and I will be forever grateful.

Some of the original CGI model files are floating around the internet and some people have rendered them with modern computing technology and they look beautiful. There was a lot of detail put into the ships that never quite came through with the technology of the time and need to render quickly for a weekly show.

Think they did all the rendering on an Amiga computer at the time. Did see a article in an Amiga magazine at the time (thou I could be wrong) great effects still brilliant.

i never would say one was better than the other . they both had strengths . B5 was special . Telling Star Trek to bring there best game to the table takes balls . They did it .

DS9 is my favorite of all the Star Trek series, but yes, I agree that B5 was better. It was great enough to have a good run, but did not overstayed it's welcome unlike some other shows.

The budget mattered for Warner Brothers and the fact that they were always able to create magic within their budget and time constraints definitely helped B5 stay on the air for the seasons it needed to tell its story.

It says despite having the B5 bible for over a year the DS9 Writers couldn't pull off a better show *despite* having the formula handed to them.

They should give Crusade a proper treatment too.

Givin the track record for reboots I'd be worried that they'd mess it up somehow .Some things shouldn't be rebooted or reimagined , BSG being the exception and definitely not the rule ,but I see where you're coming from .Years ago I used to think the same thing and thought it would be really cool if it could be done using the latest in technologies but finding people who could recreate those roles and not piss off the fanbase wouldn't be an easy task , plus I don't think that Michael S. would do it .

that must have been the repeat, used to be on tv something like 4pm or 5pm on channel 4, used to watch it after school.

I didn't find he was interrupting Bruce at all. He let him speak for minutes on end without even saying "yeah right" or "I thought so too". The only times was when Bruce was going to add something and they crossed words, which does happen when you talk via videochat.

He also has no idea what he is talking about, with all the supposed B5 fans here but no one is calling out this greasy used car salesman for either being willfully ignorant because he has never seen the show or trying to sell something for advertisers. B5 was the first series ever shot in Letterbox and they converted it to pan and scan, but he states several times that they kept it the original format after upconverting. Only a dolt or a liar would say that because it is demonstrably incorrect. As soon as he stated that I knew he was lying about how much he appreciated the series. Remove him from this, he makes me sick. He is the two things I detest the most, wilfully ignorant and incompetent.
