The reason Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi went with Starz in launching Ash vs Evil Dead was because out of all the streaming services they were talking to, Starz was the only one to offer them a zero content restriction. Which was perfect from a Horror Fans perspective.
STARZ has the worst customer service, I’ve ever dealt with. They weren’t allowing the STARZ App for Canadian’s to download… So.. I emailed them numerous times, asking them to make it available to Canadian’s, so me & others could support Ash Vs. Evil Dead… I emailed them countless times… And, I never once got a reply back… It could to the point, where I would send them emails saying.. “TAKE MY DAMN MONEY ALREADY!”… And it sucks… Because, I bought all 3 Seasons on DVD, the day they were released, hoping that those sales would count… But, unfortunately they didn’t… Because they only count TV ratings… I wish I could talk to Bruce, and tell him that Me, and probably a lot of others, did everything in our power to support the show… But, unfortunately.. STARZ customer service skills, are complete dog shit… And probably a big reason why the Series failed…
@@emartin86 I’m sure they will just magically do that just for you they just listen to mobs sadly or anything that threatens there own company for some reason they don’t count you because idk rules across countries are bullshit
@@emartin86 Canada has ALOT of restrictions on what you are, and aren't allowed to watch. It doesn't even make good buisness sense that they would not sell to you "just because". Its not STARZ's job to tell you your government (whoever runs britian) has decided you aren't allowed to watch their show. This has opened my eyes as an American though, and I need to readjust my opinion of Canadians. Canadians are: -more intelligent on average that americans- Just as smart as Americans.
@@Eclipse-yg9zp wasn’t it only for a super short period of time? I think I saw him on an interview recently talking about it. 😂 like he could’ve stayed in a gameshow era for YEARS imho
It's strange because at the time nobody knew why there wasn't a new series after the cliff hanger episode... Bruce Cambell was saying something along the lines of it was never intended to go past that point and just enjoy what you have... I don't even remember hearing anything about it being cancelled... Or being the most downloaded show..
@@JoeBlue99 it was the most illegally downloaded show at the time and yeah they actually announced season 3 was the last like right before the first episode came out damn shame show was so fuckin awesome

@@ashwilliams8876 You know, yeah that makes sense. You know for a fact Netflix wouldn't let most of that stuff slide when making it. I wonder how many people asked the higher ups if they could censor some of the scenes. It's a shame but whatever. It was cool to see it happen in the first place.
@@AlienFan25 never had seen anything evil dead until this week. Watched everything in preparation for the new game that just dropped today. Gotta say I loved every bit of it, and the show is somehow even better! Thr humor is very clever like evil dead 2. If anything the show is funnier than any other version😂😂
To be fair, no one wanted to pay the monthly cost just to watch Ash vs evil dead. There wasn’t enough on the app to justify having another streaming service.

@@ashwilliams8876 I can see how they went with Starz because of that but I'm sure in hindsight they realized how bad of a decision that was. As soon as it was announced on Starz, everyone knew it was over before it began. I'm just glad they had their run and it was great!
also it came out when there were less streaming options, net flix hadn't gone full retard woke yet and at that time it was real hard for any one to take a chunck out of netflix's pie. and stars being 15 bucks out the gate , really really hurt them. back then you coudl have netflix for 7 bucks unlimited devices and no quality tier like now. Hulu you could have for 4 bucks with ads or 7 bucks with out ads. netflix's dominance in the streaming market didn't start to wane until they went woke and there were more alternatives other than hulu. when those two things happened netflix's days as the top dog got numbered fast.
@@ashwilliams8876 i find it hard to believe that back then netflix gave them too many content restrictions. at that time netflix was tossing out shows like Marco polo that had full frontal nudity and plenty of blood and violence. this was a few years before netflix started going woke. more than likely netflix just didn't want to take a risk with the show at the time they pitched it to them. in that era netflix was also canceling shows left and right because they didn't have the budget for shows that didn't sell great.
Bruce Campbell should have an hour long (or more) stand up special. Like how Kevin Smith has his own as a director. Bruce Campbell can do his off the viewpoint of an actor, producer, and occasional director. Would be hilarious and have a large viewership.
Love Bruce Cambell.. ( evil dead was thee very 1st "Horror" movies I've seen as a kid with my father.. (going to Blockbuster or Hollywood videos to get some. Movies... Ahh.. such fond memories. My father would always cover my eyes during the tree scene... (Still haven't seen that scene).
Not gonna happen. It's done. Bruce has said already that he's done playing Ash, with the exception of voice-over for video games and such. Even if it were possible, I don't think he's interested anyway.
Love you Bruce Campbell all the way from London England. I’ve seen and played all the Evil Dead movies, series and games. Your an absolute LEGEND!! I can’t wait until the Evil Dead Rise movie comes out.
It sucked it got cancelled. I really enjoyed "Ash vs. Evil Dead"(they really pushed the envelope on some of the episodes). Hey HIS day was yesterday, groovy.
Man I remembered Bruce saying if you watch it on the app, they’ll see the views which is what I did. I always viewed it in the STARZ app, especially since they put it up like 6 hours before it’s premiere on the channel
@@ashwilliams8876 the video game was garbage. Idk what they have planned for a animated series. But by the end of ash vs evil dead it was bad. They ruined it with bal and ruby just two stupidly overpowered characters with little goo children that couldn't be killed properly without the kandarian dagger. I have a bad feeling about a animated series it won't be able to capture the humor and gruesomeness like how the live actions have done. Raimi filming is the greatest . Tied with Tarantino
I might have to concur to the "most illegally downloaded tv show" part. I watch the show over & over, especially for the laugh, Dana deLorenzo, Lucy Lawless, and of course, the only one Bruce himself.
Update Aug 2022 Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi are talking about continuing Ash vs Evil Dead in an animated series ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eNa_LHPK-QY.html
I’d still love to see Ash again in rise or at least a reference to the show in ED:R like maybe referencing the invasion of Kandar or the disappearance of Ash.
See it’s such a double edged sword. Because Starz let them do what they wanted to do but wasn’t reaching a wide audience. Any other network that would’ve reached ppl wouldn’t let them do what they wanted to do.
aw damn, I feel bad for never watching it now when it was on air. but honestly that’s on them for putting it on starz, idk how that company is still in business.. only time I’ve ever watched anything from there was on someone else’s dime. It’s not the every man channel
Piracy wasn't the problem in the slightest. It was Starz hardly promoting the show on a cable station not only no one knows, but also won't pay for. They promoted GOT like it was the second coming of Christ but AvED barely got that.. Only hardcore fans knew it existed.
Bruce always succeeds in cracking me up. I didn't have Starz, but I very deliberately waited each season for the DVD releases to come out to make sure the money went where it should to support the show. I tried...
Starz was putting out some of the greatest television I've ever seen and no one else was watching it. Still makes me sad. Evil Dead will always come back, it's inevitable, but the other shows aren't as lucky.
Why not bring it back and call it evil dead world, since it looked like fallout at the end and put it on HBO max or back on Netflix, it’ll be be like renewing but restarting at the same time.
If they not rip it bruce; I'd have very little to inspire me today. Devil hates his CHILDREN to loose in public veiw. You inspired me on another level.👷
Just finished watching the whole series these past 3 days before they take it out of Hulu, man it’s sad to know that it’s cancelled after what I watched, a franchise with so much potential; everything about the show is fuxking amazing! Go Ghost Beaters!!!🤘🤘🤘
Most actors would just go "bad ratings" and not acknowledge that fans were watching it illegally but Bruce just straight up goes "it's your fault, you're the reason it was cancelled" 😂😂
To be fair, it felt like the story was pretty well wrapped up, sending Ash into the future with a gynoid only has so much potential, I suppose it could've been like 3 episodes of post apocalyptic waste lands and then back to the past again to subvert the end times, but it was already getting excessive with all the time travel.
BRUCE HAS NAMED A STIPULATION TO PLAY ASH AGAIN!!!!! All he wants is Sam to Direct the film and HE WILL PLAY ASH AGAIN!!! Anyone who reads this, please help hound anyone and everyone necessary to force this into existence. We’ve got ONE more shot to get a REAL ending for the Greatest Character in the history of Human Story Telling. It HAS to happen for the betterment of humanity and life as we know it!!!
Ash vs Freddy Kreuger/A Nightmare on Elm St Ash vs Jason Vorheese/Friday the 13th Ash vs Michael Myers/Halloween Ash vs Pinhead/Hellraiser Ash vs Pumkinhead Ash vs Resident Evil Ash vs Ghostbusters Ash vs Buffy the Vampire Slayer Ash vs Constantine Ash vs Blade Ash vs Hellboy There is no end to the amazing crossovers they COULD be making!!
I just watch all 3 seasons in the matter of a couple days. It is and always will be my favorite series, mainly because I grew up with the evil dead franchise lol. I’m sad it got cancelled cause I would of loved to see what they would do with it
Although he is right that it was the reason it was cancelled, but his fans (like me) were ready to fight back and get him reinstated like family guy, but he asked us not to. I think he was just over it all - the hard work and the cancellation was too much and he just wanted a break.
It is also a right decision for making an Army Of Darkness to be its own movie instead of having the "Evil Dead 3" title with it. Army Of Darkness as the stand-alone movie is another good comedy-horror flick.
No one is at fault here really. The platform it was on was the main issue. The era of streaming on demand sadly belongs to the already powerful. No one wants another streaming service subscription format unless they hold some incredible niche that other platforms just don't offer. But even then, I already know of several... maybe evil dead should go on a horror exclusive streaming service like Shudder
