I saw Bruce Channel do this in 1962. I had been to the Mardi Glas in New Orleans and had returned with a pint of Early Times whiskey. I was 16 years old and bought the bottle in a Walgreens drug store. Took it to the Rock n' Roll show and drank it with a friend or two. Got quite drunk and had a wonderful time.

Dear Michael Jagger: I do miss the bass line from the original cut that changed the whole sound dynamic: Probably many records were sold on the strength of this.

My cousin showed me how to play this song when I was 8 years old. I had know idea that the same producer would also produce me, and Bruce would become a friend and hero of mine. Love you Bruce.

This song is a very important song in pop history. It inspired John Winston Lennon to write songs. Please please Me, Love me do, Little Child and others from this one song which in its time was so catchy.

Saw Bruce in 1962, but a great thrill for us was seeing Delbert at an outdoor venue at Skullbone in West Tennessee. Delbert played the harmonica for Bruce on "Hey! Baby in 1962. Another favorite of mine by Delbert is "Giving It Up For Your Love ".

Dear Suzanne Smith: Did they have the same arrangement for the double bass then? This gave the song a special character. Without this, it's just a sing-along type of song.

It is interesting that so many high school and college marching bands have included "Hey Baby" as a part of their repertoire.

Scott5010. Curiously, since the lyrics are gender driven and would confuse the crowd and college men playing.

There's a couple who are professional swing dancers called Nils and Bianca who do a fantastic dance to this song. I haven't heard this tune since I was a little kid riding with my parents in the early 70s, but that swing act brought me here. Go check them out. They honor this song's essence in their performance. You'll love it.

On a bus or a train somewhere in England Delbert McClinton gave John Lennon some pointers on playing the harmonica a few months after this song was released and a few months before love me do was released. Listen to the similarities between the original recordings.

Linne Perry Yes. She's a very much in demand session/touring vocalist based in Nashville. Most of the people she supports she could blow off the stage and back on to the Silver Eagle. Delbert McClinton is NOT one of them. She's a great musician, too. A real sweetheart, but nobody's fool.
