Bruce's Solo work is criminally underrated. The same goes to Roy Z, equally underrated as a lead guitarist. His guitar solo on the Tittle Track is one of my all time favorites.

It's funny that he talks about Chemical Wedding being an influential album. I've always thought of it as pretty obscure, but it has HEAVILY influenced my writing over the last 20 years. It's really one of those gems you find that not too many people know about and then when you show it to them they're like "holy shit where has this been all my life!?". Similar albums (in my mind) would be CoC In the Arms of God, Wolverine Blues by Entombed and Satriani's self titled album with the red cover ... just to name a few. Despite being a huge prog/power metal fan all my life it really was Chemical Wedding that made me want to do thematic albums. Now I just have to actually finish one lol.
@@alecbigcanoe1094 Where do I start… Kevin Shirley is nicknamed the caveman - very appropriate since Maiden albums sound like they were recorded in a cave. Do some critical listening (i.e., good source, good amp with quality well-positioned speakers and sitting in the sweet spot). The soundstage / imaging / presentation are lacklustre. Dynamic range is timid. Simply speaking there is not enough 3D oomph in the music. Guitars are “ok” and are usually well separated (you can distinguish Dave / Adrian / Janick) but drums don’t image at all. This is frustrating since Nicko has a massive drum set. But drums mainly come from a small point in the middle and somewhere back. No sense of the drums filling the 3D soundstage. Usually, cymbals image better but not on Maiden albums. Bruce’s voice could fill the soundstage better also. Don’t get me wrong, I love the band and music but the mastering could be much better. In all fairness, the 2015 remastered catalogue do sound better. With better mastering the soundstage and imaging are more engaging which make listening more enjoyable. In general jazz and classical music are better mastered. As I said, I love the band - first saw them during the Number of the Beast tour… and looking forward to seeing them again live… and looking forward to a new album.

I hope his next album is even heavier and darker than AToS. If the rest of the album sounds like "If Eternity Should Fail" it's going to be epic. And with a name like "Nightmare" (The other song he wrote for his solo album) I bet it's going to be another unsettling masterpiece. I noticed his albums kept getting darker and deeper since AoB.
I think chemical wedding was more on the fantasy front. Tyranny was dark as hell. Believil and the title track itself just pour out so much of darkness and despair. I've always imagined tyranny of souls to be a soundtrack for Doom 3. It just goes like butter on bread.
I wouldn't call Chemical Wedding a fantasy, it was purely occult/alchemy (sure, you may call that fantasy technically) themed album. Really, the only Bruce's fantasy song I can think of is "Taking the Queen" from Accident of Birth. All three albums masterpieces, undoubtedly.
The Chemical Wedding album saved me from committing suicide in 1998...the whole world was against me at that point..im still here dog..fuck haters..make another solo album Bruce..please
Can't believe I'm just seeing this! I miss the heavier Iron Maiden guitar sounding albums more than the new guitar sound on the last few albums after Brave New World. This is my void filler!
And people weren’t as wowed with this album, because Adrian wasn’t on it, so the chemistry was different, but it’s still amazing… And possibly some of the best vocals of his career. Was certainly a more colourful and varied album than iron maiden’s album, a matter of life and death that same time. But not as much of a band sound. Maiden has that in spades.
Damn bro after watching it I can’t believe how are you have death Adrian Smith. I am waiting on pain and they’re awesome with you specially as soon but this video was hard to watch I love Rosie that man is a master on the guitar and in the studio. No disrespect at all. Long live rock:)
I love maiden love all there albums but Bruce solo stuff accident of birth and skunk works and tyranny and chemical wedding I can't get enough of those albums there soon good.I usually pick these albums over maidens alot when it comes to album listens.
Skunkworks was my least favorite Bruce solo album. It sounded too much like the other shitty grunge bands, that were popular in the 90s. Balls to Picasso, Accident of Birth, Chemical Wedding and Tyranny of Souls was Bruce's best solo albums. And Roy Z played in all those 4 albums and produced them. But they can never beat the Bruce era Maiden albums in the 80s! They're true masterpieces!!! 🤘🤘
@@ThreeDaysOfDan Same thing with Black Sabbath in the late 80's. Tony Iommi intended it to be a solo project, but the record company he was signed to, wanted him to put the name Black Sabbath on the cover. So it's a Black Sabbath album, even if Iommi didn't intend it to be. Same with Bruce. Skunkworks is still a Bruce solo album, even if he intended it be a new band.
Bruce doesn't have a bad record even Skunkworks which has a handful of tunes that I could go without listening to.. Bruce's solo work is better than any of Maidens albums that they put out while he was out of the band. Songs like Sign Of the Cross, Man On the Edge, Lord Of the Flies, & Virtual IX has Angel & the Gambler, Futureal & Clansman, and Bruce does those songs Justice vocally. Accident of Birth is top 5 best records of the late 90's along with Chemical Wedding.. the music is phenomenal.. Tyranny of Souls is no different, Devil on a hog, Navigate the Seas of the sun, Abduction, River of no Return, Eternal. Can't wait til Bruce puts out another solo record
Iron maiden was failing without Bruce. The Maiden crowd did not like that new singer and albums at all, they wanted originality. Steve harris was very worried that his band was going to be washed up. He took a strong notice of Bruce's solo work and I'm sure he felt that he would upstaged. Im pretty sure he made an offer that Bruce and adrian couldn't refuse.
Not quite mate. They've openly said Bruce knew he would come back eventually if Steve would take him, no offer needed. Its just he needed a break from the 'box' that is Maiden and a chance to explore this other creative side of himself fully, with full focus. And honestly the Maiden fans at the time were a bit hard on Blaze I feel. The man was stepping into an impossible position and he gave it his very best.
this album is a funny one....it's way better than it should be. this is bruce's best vocal performance on record, period. the first few tunes are a bit hokey, but they're short. it really takes off halfway through, and just flows. a shorter album with more variety than chemical wedding. i don't think it's a better album than chemical wedding but i kind of like it better, if that makes any sense
No. Bruce's absolute GREATEST vocal performance on record are on the Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding albuns!!! Period!!! He sounds amazing on Tyranny of Souls as well. But his voice sounds a little bit thin on his upper register on Tyranny, whereas all of his ranges sounds incredible on Accident and Chemical.
