But one thing is for sure he would of went on to be one of the most successful actors of all time due to having hollywood and chinese cinema in his back pocket. Not to mention how big he was going worldwide after the release of enter the dragon. The way of the dragon was released internationally a year after and for every $1000 spent on the movie they made a million. Bruce lees movies was low budget but made alot of profit. @@concretejungle8916 This is what people fell to understand.. One of the many reasons martial arts was developed to begin with is so that those who are smaller and weaker could have the advantage against one who is larger and stronger. Bruce was living proof that one doesn't have to be larger and stronger to defend himself.. Bruce was actually about 135 lbs of lean solid muscle. Couple that with speed, accuracy, timing and strength.. He was the personification of Kung Fu. He lived and breath Kung Fu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. pushing his body to it's limits. He was years ahead of his time.. There will never be another Bruce Lee.

That's a Christian thing. This is taoism. In christianity, there is "I". In taoism, there is not. There being no opponent is different across these two worldviews. In Christianity, the sinner is like you, hence he is you. And you ought to love him just like you love yourself. Above that you love god. And you have no enemies In taoism, you cannot have an enemy because it is all about the balance. The "enemy" is essential to the balance, and thus meaningless. You must make no note of it. Because if you do, you make note of "I", defeating the purpose of the Tao.

@maurices5954 Год назад
@@godjuda8289 Don't get me wrong, there is no doubt in my mind that Bruce had a huge impact on the world of martial arts in general. My issue isn't with his philosophy of combat, I admire most of it, it inspired me as a kid and lead me to explore multiple martial art styles over the years, strictly for self-defense only, with the idea that if one must fight, you better know how to go about it. Like Bruce, i prefer the "art of fighting, without fighting". It's his theory of concepts and his basic metaphysics that i disagree with.
@maurices5954
@maurices5954 Год назад
@Richard CraniumSure thing, I'd be glad to explain. It's just some basic epistemological and metaphysical issues that i have with some of his philosophical ideas as these are the foundational branches that are the building blocks of any philosophy. These branches deal with the questions "What is out there? How do we know? and how can we know what we know to be true? In a nutshell, we look at the world around us and arrives at certain truths by deducing what we experience from our senses in correspondence with what adheres to reality, now our senses could be wrong, but what we perceive to be true is still knowledge, mistaken perhaps, but it could be corrected. Over time we have learnt whether our perceptions can be trusted by looking if they correspond to reality, after that we go through the mental process that is needed to form concepts. Concepts are derived from describing what is out there in the world. The way we transfer these socially constructed concepts on an interpersonal basis is by use of language and rhetoric. In order to successfully transfer the idea from one mind to another our use of language needs to be non-contradictory, precise and clear. Concepts need to refer to either physical or mental entities in order for us to be able to identify them. At the very core of all this are the laws of logic. The law of identity (A is A) states that a thing can only be itself. The law of non-contradiction (A is A and not B) states that a thing can't be itself and not itself a the same time. The law of excluded middle states that either A is A, or A is non-A. No third option can be otherwise the case. With that in mind we can look at the example Bruce gives in his water/cup analogy. Both water and a cup are concepts that have their own clear identity, knowing that this is the case, both objects can't be the same at any given moment in time cause that would violate the law of non-contradiction. Simply put, water can't become the cup because the cup already is itself and so is water, concepts have meaningful definitions that are described by use of precise language. The function of a cup is to be able to hold a substance, the substance that is poured into the cup does not become the cup, that just does not logically follow. Same with the teapot. To then conclude with the idea to "Be water, my friend" is to then imply that it is okay to violate the law of non-contradiction, which is to allow for contradictions to exist within your philosophy. There are other examples i can go on, based on this video, but other people have already demonstrated the contradiction of there being no opponent and an opponent at the same time, which obviously can't be the case, i as well have addressed this contradiction in reply to some other comment already, perhaps you can find it if you are interested in how i justify my position.

Michelangelo once pointed out : "if you are only going in the footsteps of others, you will never be overtake them." And practiced moves, but never challenged any known top fighters, no competitions. And he also said that old Chinese martial arts are NOT effective in real fights.
