I join NV guru Bruce (@Phoenix on the NV Forum), as he explains how his downrange DIY / 'homebrew' target cam evolved through trial and error, to the excellent version he uses today.

when zeroing night vision scope. could you strategically place flashlight behind target so light shines threw hole made

Perhaps, as long as your safe pellet backstop wasn't compromised, but modern NV scopes like the PARDs see normal targets perfectly clearly. Cheers. Russ

I shoot 1000 yard targets with my DIY cam system that cost me under $150USD. Two 12vdc batteries, a 600mW transmitter, a camera, and a great combo Monitor/Dual Channel Receiver/DVR for viewing and recording...even playback on the spot. And I can output the video to a second large screen TV/monitor for friends to view in realtime providing I have my 12v/120vac inverter handy or wall power running an extension cord to my shooting bench from the shooting shack. Bought it all on Amazon and eBay (China). A half hour to get it all running, not counting mounting in a housing for the cam/transmitter/battery unit.

I think Bruce that even the second attempt! you could of changed the lens to a 8mm or 12mm or 16mm lens. Most of the lens are standard screw in and out held in place by a grub screw. I have done this on other ip cameras. Just a comment that may have worked for you, keeping the cost down. Still what you've ended up with is working for you and more flexible in distance.
