Amazing this went unplayed for over 20 years. I know they didn't need a long jam to pad the sets after "Born to Run", but this is just so perfect for the band, even in this "short" version. Bravo to Conan for giving the extended performance slot, too.
It was a cold December evening in Asbury park, Max Weinberg 7, Bruce Springsteen guest and friends took to the stage. Audience is thinking Christmas song, when that famous guitar RIFF is played. The auditorium CHEERED louder then the band......
Better, I think, although just a tiny bit slower. And since Danny doesn't play the David Sancious organ solo, they were able take advantage of the full horn section and get in a few spicy solos.
Great swing. Springsteens voice is fantastic...he hits that both clean and whispering sound, which suits the soul vibe so well!. His rugged guitar solo add the exact right amount grit that keeps the performance from being too smooth. The whole band kills it in their solos. I love Federicis intuitive way of playing the organ. A classic performance that should be kept in the Bruce archives forever. So much soul and with that grain of rock that makes it unique.
I think this was Bruce's message to his older fans that the new tour wasn't going to be strictly new material. I'm sure a lot of Bruce's more recent fans were blown away by this onslaught of jazz/blues/rock fusion.
@@bossfan49 ya ok But NOT DOING A SONG FROM IT But rather a 1973 WW E st shuffle tune is the funny part. Wether they were touring or not.. Should have pulled out the 73 album and said from the wild the willing the innocent and the E Street Shuffle here's Kitys Back
@@truckerkevthepaidtourist Maybe Bruce didn't want him to. Or maybe Conan didn't have time between rehearsal and air to send somebody out and find a copy of WIESShuffle. It's a nitpicky, irrelevant complaint.
