The best part about this video is the live singing. For those who didn't know, Bruce actually is singing live while walking here. There is a microphone connected under the jacket he is wearing. You can hear the background noises such as his footsteps and kids playing. Just adds that extra charm to this song.

My dad passed a few days ago , Bruce was my dad’s biggest fan I swear there wasn’t a day growing up I didn’t hear him singing to your songs in his truck 🤍 he rode that truck to the ground he was a strong man and was fighting a disease, he fought strong. Rest in peace Paul Renfrey love u.

I am sitting here in my bedroom listening to all the songs of my youth with tears streaming down my face. Thinking back on simpler times when children could be children and life seemed to make sense. I am sad for my children and for the world that they are growing up in. Bruce Springsteen's music is timeless.

Hello Garry, I hope the you will not be upset when I say that I'm not a gay man with AIDS. Bruce's song The Streets Of Philadelphia is about what a man with AIDS can go through but the lyrics apply to many of us in so many other ways also. So, for example, when I identify with the lyrics "I was bruised and battered" I was indeed till very recently bruised and battered since November of 1971 but not because I have AIDS but because I suffered with anxiety and depression and much more else besides that I will not describe in this public space. I am a great fan of Springsteen but I did not go to his recent concert here in Dublin over two nights. I hope you see this post because RU-vid doesn't always work as it should for me. Thanks for that Peter, and no I am not upset at all, I am a humanist and the song "works" for people on many levels. Although I have not suffered the "black dog" of depression or anxiety I am acutely aware the toll it takes on individuals and their families. I hope everything is well with you now and you are able to enjoy a fulfilled life on this beautiful planet we all live on. Just as an aside I am gigging with my band tonight so we will do a cover of this song and I will be thinking of you and yours, again thanks for posting.

Having struggled in life up thru foster homes and right into heroin addiction where I struggled another 24 years (clean and sober 4 years now, with a 15 month old baby) this song hits so deep. It's kinda embarrassing but I kinda cry every time I hear this song. Thank you for making this song Boss

This song reminds me of when I was lost in my addiction to heroin...I listen to this song now and it reminds me of the ones I’ve lost, including myself. I’ve been in recovery for 4 years now, and feel blessed to wake up clean every day. This song actually gives me hope now. 💖💯

🤔I found the 90s to be a boring decade. Flannel shirts were comfy though. We also got to see computers and cell phone technology evolve and expand more around 1997 to the smaller affordable ones. Cell phones in the 80s were heavy, expensive or installed in cars. But yeah, youtube is great for finding all the old videos that once played on MTV. Most of us born in the 70s havent acknowledged its existence since 2000.

Angels so do exist and I could not do without them. The were there when I was ready to let go, when I touched the lowest of bottom to find strength I had no idea exists. Facing life threatening illness is a blessing in disguise finding a new light in you, discovering love you have amongst family & friends. It is powerful and humbling experience I would not want to repeat but neither would want to change. It changed me and I'm ever thankful for that. I am healthy though, powerful and strong 🤍

What a sensible and classy decision for Springsteen to capture live audio for this music video. It speaks to his sensibilities that he’d think it disingenuous to walk the streets of Philadelphia and lip sync in front of onlookers. The incorporating of live ambient noise really completes the whole aesthetic. I miss when mainstream music videos were chalk full of that kind of creativity. Definitely one of the all-time original Oscar winning songs.

@@roseg2239 i was born in 63. I have seen better times. We had bussing riots in the mid 70s. But as kids we did not see color. I did grow up in poor areas. I had friends from all walks of life. Then in the Army i had many friends from all over this world. A lot less homeless back then. Today it is crazy the amount of homeless. Hell the hobos would get off the trains and come to our house food a sandwich and to refil their water jugs. I do not care what you say, i lived it, the human race was much more nicer back then.

When you think of Springsteen’s very heterosexual fanbase at the time, and this being the first Hollywood movie about a gay man with AIDS, it makes you respect the Boss even more. His creative genius writing and performing all the instruments. And his courage to take a stand for empathy.

+Savana Banana I remember that movie. I saw it in cinemas. First time i saw Tom Hanks in a dramatic role. I was amazed at what he could do as an actor, but I was crying in the end with his condition and he not being allowed to do what he wants just because he had aids.

I was today years old when I learned that Bruce sang this song live with a lav mic hidden in his jacket just for the music video, as he felt the emotional depth of the song couldn’t be mimed. True artist right there.
