From the epic film, Philadelphia, for which Tom Hanks well-deservedly won the second of his four academy awards for playing an AIDS victim. Such a moving song by Bruce, which he also got an award for best song in a movie. Like others have said, he has a rich and diverse catalogue of great music, including his signature song Born To Run, and he is acknowledged to be one of the great live performers ever. Really, just run through his catalogue A-Z and you can't go wrong.
The song is actually about the effect and ravages of AIDS disease on a person in this case the protagonist of the film played by Tom Hanks and set in Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love. The film was inspired and based on a true story. You should watch the film and Hank's wonderful performance. The first stanza is: "I was bruised and battered, I couldn't tell what I felt I was unrecognizable to myself Saw my reflection in a window and didn't know my own face Oh brother are you gonna leave me wastin' away On the streets of Philadelphia"
Such a calming, mellow sound. His persona is relatable to every-day people rather than as a rock/pop star. The song and the movie won an Academy award in 1993. It was an amazing, important and sad movie about the AIDS epidemic.
Streets of Philadelphia won an Oscar for Best Original Song for the film Philadelphia starring Tom Hanks. Both also won Oscars.for best picture and best actor. This was the first song the Boss ever wrote and performed for a film, The film addressed the discrimination victims of HIV AIDS faced.
Springsteen was commissioned to write the theme for the movie ", Philadelphia." The film, based on a true story, starred Tom Hanks as an attorney who was fired from a law firm because he had AIDS. Denzel Washington played an attorney who represented Hanks' character as he sued the firm for wrongful termination. Check the lyrics. They are written specifically for the film.
It's the title song from the soundtrack of the film 'Philadelphia' (1993). Tom Hanks won the Oscar for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his role as a lawyer who was discriminated against and unfairly dismissed from his job once they learned that he was gay and had AIDS. Denzel Washington is also in it and plays Tom Hanks' attorney. This film was a landmark at the time as it was the first mainstream Hollywood film that depicted the horrific homophobia and discrimination against HIV-positive people that was running rampant in the late 80s and early 90s.
Neil Diamond should have won with his song "Philadelphia" from the same movie..... That one is ever better, and it was played in the last scenes of the movie when Tom Hanks has died in the movie and we are shown him as a young boy, it really melts your heart....
Bruce Springsteen has a huge catalogue of hits, that is one of my favorites of him. Tom Hanks has the leading role in the movie Philadelphia were the song appeared. Propably that is why we see him here. Thank you
Song is from film "Philadelphia" which you should watch. You will understand the song better. And yes, Tom Hanks is in it. The song won Oscar for best song, and Hanks for best Actor.
This song was written for the film, "Philadelphia" starring Tom Hanks. He won as Oscar playing a gay man who had AIDS and was illegally fired from his job as a successful attorney. It's a true story.
One of my faves from THE BOSS. (Tom Hanks played a man dying of aids in "Philadelphia""). "Born In The USA" and "Born To Run" are the others. I got chills watching you get chills!!❤🔥
Bruce Springsteen is one of America's greatest songwriters. From very classic rock working class anthems to some of the most poignant and beautiful songs you have ever heard. You should absolutely listen to a number of his other songs.....almost too many to name, but I love "Secret Garden" and, "Tunnel of Love", "Sad Eyes", "Fire". These are just a SMALL few of his grand body of work. One could probably dedicate an entire channel to his work.
The vocal track for the video was recorded live with a hidden microphone, so it's not the same as the studio version. The video is directed by Jonathan Demme, director of many great films including The Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia (1993), staring Tom Hanks . Springsteen won an Oscar for this song. Hanks won one too for best actor.
Tim Hanks won Oscar for portrayal of man dying from AIDS and fighting his law firm who wanted to fire him. Denzel Washington plays his lawyer and he and Hanks were superb.
thorn bird. Well done Thorn Bird, i was gonna say the same thing. He is singing and walking in real time. Who would dare do that today ? P.S. Hello from Ireland. ✌️ ☘🇷🇺
@@bpfromowc thank you. Actually, I was obssesed with the song after watching this incredible movie which both helped me to go through the most difficult period of my life. This kind of music gives me strength to move on, so I will thank Bruce for the rest of my life for composing such masterpieces ❤️ Also, I love your culture, especially your Irish sagas which I read at University. They are so beautiful and breathtaking 🇮🇪
This song opened the movie Philadelphia, with the same street scenes but without Springsteen walking. Also check out Neil Young's song "Philadelphia" which closed the movie. As others have said Tom Hanks starred in the movies as an attorney who contracted Aids. Listen again and see how the song tells the story.
You now have to listen to Neil Young's "PHILADELPHA" from the same movie . It finished 2nd to Bruce's song at the Acamedy awards for best original song. It was played at the end of the movie !
Please guys, watch the movie 'Philadelphia' starring Tom Hanks and then watch Bruce's title track video again, listen to the lyrics and everything will fall into place. Bruce won an Emmy for this song (I think) and Tom Hanks won an Oscar for his incredible performance. Many thanks again.
I love this song .... it brings back memories of watching the film & crying while I was watching it (having seen how awful the general reaction to people who were HIV positive or had AIDS was at that time) - it is such a beautiful song - Love your reaction .....
THE RISING and MY HOMETOWN are great too💫...I always go to Bruce' songs together with Dire Straits' and Eric Clapton' whenever I have that mood of just being cool and calm while am busy doing some stuffs like paperworks or while watching the sunset with my coffee...🤗💫
Tom Hanks did a movie called "Philadelphia" about the early days of AIDs and his character suing the law firm he worked for when he was fired after he started showing symptoms of AIDs.
This is a cool song, used in Philadelphia the movie starring Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington and Antonio Banderas. A must see watch! Tom Hanks is brilliant as always!
From one of the rare films to have 2 songs nominated for an Oscar for best song, Bruce with this song so powerful so deep..and Neil Young for his song Philadelphia, Tom Hanks won his second Oscar for this movie with an epically powerful heart felt performance of a man dying from AIDS who fought the system and won yet lost
Tom Hanks played a lawyer I believe that came down with Aids. The movie was called Philadelphia. This is from the movie soundtrack.....worth a watch. Great reaction dudes 💗🕊️
Hello from Philadelphia. I'm sure that I'm not your only viewer from here though. This video is from the soundtrack to the film, Philadelphia, starring Tom Hanks. I was a kid growing up spending a lot of time in the Italian neighborhoods of South Philly around where the sports stadiums are. That was right around the time this song came out too. It was a great time to be there in the late 80s and early 90s. I'm a huge Philadelphia Flyers hockey and Philadelphia Eagles football fan. Plenty has changed since this video was filmed all those years ago but the people here are still just are passionate about our sports teams. If you've never seen it, you should watch Rocky (1976) written by and starring Sylvester Stallone, in order to get a real good feel for this city and its passions. It's a great film about an underdog boxer but there's a lot more to it than just boxing. It's an inspiring story about the indomitable human spirit. Rocky is a classic character who everyone here loves. There's even a statue here commemorating the film and the character. I enjoy your videos and wish you well. Keep up the great work guys!
Loved your reaction and what you guys are reacting to in your video is amazing. Love your Vibe. I have seen Bruce and the boys in concert 37 times. He is legendary. Three hour concerts 25 song sets are normal. He takes the the audience to church every single time..... Here is a live concert video. Thisreally shows how he engages with the audience and how hisE STreet Band have fun on stage. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0QWhPWBJPik.html Light of Day.
There's a 2001 concert from Madison Square Garden available in full on THe Boss' channel - you should check the whole thing out, but particularly 10th Avenue Freeze Out. It's the second best introduction to the E Street Band there is, the first being when Bruce inducted them into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
There were two songs from the movie Philadelphia nominated for an Oscar, this and Neil Young's Philadelphia. Both heart breakers just like the movie. To be fair to the movie and the songs you should watch the movie and react to Neil's song.
Another thing I like about Bruce is he likes to do his own version of songs he views as special. Listen to his version of Chris Bailey's/The Saints - "Just Like Fire Would"
The chronicles of the stigma and shame people suffered after contracting AIDS. Done only the way Bruce could do it. Mesmerizing and haunting, especially for those of us who lived through the spawn of the devastating AIDS epidemic.
This is a truly great song from a truly great movie, i cried my eyes out when i watched it. I love the song, watch the movie guys, it was groundbreaking, tackling Aids. Check out Bruce (live in Dublin) singing Erie Canal ( with the Seeger Sessions Band). The entire concert is mindblowing.
Bruce Springsteen is a legend he’s not my favorite but I do love some of his songs and he’s definitely talented this is from the movie Philadelphia with Tom Hanks
Guys, I do love your reactions to the music we all love. Please, if I may make one request, could you react to Bruce's brilliant song 'Tougher Than The Rest' from the 'Tunnel Of Love' album 1988. Many thanks guys!!!
Please watch the movie , its heartbreaking and shows the life of a person being stigmatized by a new sickness and the judgment thye had to suffer. Heartbreaking and great acting.
