Whenever I feel beat and overburdened , Bruce's music makes me feel alive and supercharged again . I have never done drugs but doubt it feels any better than the high his music takes me to .

My daughter was born at 25 weeks old and spent 91 days in the NiCU. This was one of many songs (this version) I would listen to everytime there and back. Have a hard time listening to it now lol. A truly inspirational song and incredible version! Btw, my daughter is an absolute warrior and has astounded all doctors as the most incredible 25 weeker they’ve ever seen!

Let’s break this down! The passion! The energy despite obvious exhaustion! The generosity of sharing the spotlight with Clarence and Stevie! The lyrics - the historical nod to the 1968 Memphis sanitation workers strike! The showmanship! The harmonica! Perfection in spite of the occasional variation from the official recording! His mastery of musical and performance timing!

River Tour ... played at the Rosemont Horizon ( in the shadow of O'Hare Airport) from 8pm till 1am ( played from midnight till 1am with the house lites on) ... played every song any fan would have wanted to hear .... I prefer slower songs like The River & Your Hometown but Promised Land features all the great instruments with the harmonica last ... my first over $10 ticket for a concert ... less than $3 an hour for a stellar concert ...INSANE! Springsteen is a true performer in all aspects ... he must've been ...I remember all the details almost 50 yrs ago !! The greatest Era to be a youth ever ... wouldn't trade it for anything ...I agree with all the posts ...

seen a LOT of concerts since Jan 20, 1981..including a couple dozen Boss shows..but nothing has ever come close to my first Bruce show..4hrs of THIS..concert started just after 8pm and we walked out into a freezing January night after midnight transformed. As the saying goes, for those who understand, no explanation is needed, & for those that dont, none will suffice.

I saw him at L.A. Sports Arena in 1980, Halloween night. I was 13. My big brother who was 18, took me. Changed my fucking life! We went again in '81 on the second leg of the same River tour. And amazingly enough we both caught him again in 2016 at the same Los Angeles Sports Arena for the 35th Anniversary River tour. Only now I was 48 and he was 53. A few times that night we both had tears of pure joy in our eyes. Bruce is hands down the best in rock.

Just think. This was also the era of the "big hair and hair spray" bands all thinking that they were "bad" and cool. Bruce and the E-Street band were all about the music. That is why they will always be remembered.

Easily one of the best live versions of "The Promised Land" ever recorded! I attended the Springsteen concert one week prior (Oct. 27, 1980) in Oakland, CA.
