At the time, he was conductor and Artistic Directors of multiple orchestras - and an opera house or two. His schedule was full due to his reputation. Taking on the BPO would've caused a lot of turmoil and problems in deciding what contracts he'd have to cancel. In the end, it would've been "nice" of the BPO to offer him the position, but he didn't need it. Besides, he's relatively young and he might get the job, eventually. Disagree. I think petrenko is going the right way with the Berlin Phil . Way more open. Way more for the new generation. A fresh way of conducting. But at the same time not to crazy. Not like thielemann (who also has said and done some things that the Berliner philharmoniker wants to distance themselves away from)
