Symphony No 7 in E Major by Anton Bruckner 1. Allegro moderato 2. Adagio 3. Scherzo 4. Allegro ma non troppo New York Philharmonic Paul Hindemith, conductor
As an admirer of Paul Hindemith the composer and viola player, I am grateful for this upload. It expanded my appreciation of him as a conductor of Bruckner's music.
Grabbed me right away. Thought I'd give it a few minutes, as I'd not heard Hindemith conduct any Bruckner, but not expecting anything revelatory. Here I am past 35 min., still held by it. Surely one of the most beautifully shaped and phrased 7ths I've encountered. Deeply expressive, but nothing overdone, i.e. the sweet spot. Thanks very much for the post.
I have stumbled upon the very good friend who very long ago introduced me to Bruckner's 7th, which caused me to spend many hours listening to it instead of writing about J S Mill.
