We were two families out fishing for Salmon in our boat. Suddenly, we noticed a shark coming towards us. We understand that it was a brugde.

Hey man. The way the water was moving had the hairs on my head stand up. That was a perfect large V-shape wave coming at you, but you could not see what it was until it was under your boat.🥴

It's harmless. It only feeds on plankton. But yes, it can be scary to see such a huge shark, even if one knows its harmless. :)

@@richardbidinger2577 I have no issues swimming in the sea, we don't really have anything bigger than a pike or a seal here (in the Baltic sea).. sometimes a dolphin might get lost and end up here.. and no crocodiles, deadly sea snakes etc either..

Use to see these (basking shark) all the time in the Gulf of Maine. They are absolutely huge and look like a predator but are mainly plankton feeders.

I love Basking Sharks. So Impressive to see and even more impressive to be around. These beauts end up dwarfing the great white sometimes, have been lucky enough to share some water with one of these in the English channel a few years back. There was a moment exactly like this, although I didn't know it was a basking until it was almost under me.... Yes... Filled my pants abit too

Thank you to those people explaining that this is a basking shark because I hadn't heard the other name before. It's incredible how fast this shark was travelling, I thought they slowly float along. Thank goodness they aren't man eaters!

I know these are similar to whale sharks in that they don’t feed on large prey. But for me, these look and feel and whole lot more menacing than whale sharks. More visually reminiscent of the type of shark that could attack i think.

There have been a couple of occasions they have turned up in Aalesund harbor bay. There is a diver club/shop nearby so someone had the opportunity to rush into the water with it. Its a plankton feeder so it wasn't going to attack. But after a while the shark jolted in a direction, and the diver got caught in his ribs by its tail, breaking some them. So...probably not the best water ballet partner.

We think of basking sharks as peaceful, gentle creatures. Plankton view them quite differently. They don't get that big by sniffing flowers.
