Two tunes from Canada for melodeon.net theme of the month February 2024.
First by Philippe Bruneau, learned from Mike Hockenhull; the second from the regulars at the Ripponden Old Bridge Monday Night tune session.

Hi Caroline, I saw your posting to MelNet about Gerry Mogg and assume that's what that was about. Sad news about him; I found some RU-vid videos of his playing and he didn't look immediately familiar, but I must have seen him in the Radway on some of my frequent (less so now) visits there during Sidmouth Folk Week.

Thanks for mentioning those videos, he was good musician and I’ve not seen any other memories of Gerry.

Awesome! What's the this melodeon brand and model?
@anahatamelodeon

Oakwood, made in Leeds, England in the 1990s. They don't make melodeons any more, in fact it looks like the man behind it, Martyn Banks, has retired and is no longer making any instruments at all.

@@anahatamelodeon Thanks for the answer! I was surprised how low tone is for an instrument of that size

Great tunes very well played. Any other info on Bruneau’s jig as I’m guessing he wouldn’t have called by that name?

No, it's a bit of a mystery as I can't find it anywhere else. I'll have to ask my only source where he got it from.

I've found something out: see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ykuf0agQQmo.html from an out-of-print recording where it's one of a set of jigs entitled "Parties de Lancier" i.e. parts of a Lancers - The Lancers was a dance popular in the 18th and 19th century that came in several distinct sections with a separate tune each.
