From the Philadelphia Spectrum, September 1985. This match (along with Hogan/Savage) sold out the building with 20,000 people. All 4 guys work their asses off for this crowd. A great match with four Hall of Famers well worth watching a few times over. Piper and Orton also have a great pre-match interview with Kal Rudman.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's when networks like PRISM in Philadelphia and MSG Network in New York City used to broadcast their cards live at the Spectrum or MSG on those channels too. Not anymore sadly. I feel fortunate to have grown up when I did. Days like this are gone forever sadly. Philly crowds ALWAYS make RAWs or SmackDowns or PPVs great today but I really miss these days. This is another example of McMahon asking Bruno to put the tights on, when the WWF was making its transition and the money wasn't quite right. Vince knew that wherever Sammartino appeared he would have a sellout crowd. The shameful part of this is that Vince used Bruno's work in the ring as leverage. At this time David Sammartino was wrestling and Vince would guarantee David's position as long as Dad Bruno would continue to wrestle. Bruno is in his 50's here, look at him go. Some people question why he is listed as the greatest of all time. Here is an example of his body of work. Long after volunteering to lose the championship twice, he's back in the ring helping the company in hard times. Nobody wanted the Bruno era to end. Thank goodness we have RU-vid to remind us of what wrestling used to be like. Good guys vs villain heals. Not acrobats who come back in a match after having their brains knocked out ! Look at the RU-vid testimonies of Stan Hansen, Bill Watts, and Nikolai Volkoff on their respect for the talents of Bruno Sammartino.

Also Bruno was moving well. When he was champ he was heavier and slow because of injuries. On the video he's thirty pounds lighter and well rested. Also still worked out. Kowalski must have been his inspiration.

This is exactly how to draw with and have an old timer protected and look good! Under 10 minutes of a match, hot start, young guys take the bumps, let the old guy deliver the big blows and have the heel take em out to set up another money match. That's how you do it! Not trying to have them in 30 minute matches with high spots and farce ending.
