The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) issued an emergency closure Thursday for a Brunswick, Georgia, childcare facility two days after a 16-month-old died.
I took a cpr and first aid class and the number one thing I always learned is to call 911 while performing cpr. This is in case you fail as the provider in removing the solid object in their throat. Three adults tried to get the watermelon out and no one bothered to call 911 first? Something is really shady
Daycare worker here, they are SUPPOSED to be CPR/First Aid trained or they get cited by the state, at least in my state. We do yearly training, even medicine/ epi pen training. This was a daycare that did not care about training.
And precautuion, good judgement and common sense. Watermelon has seeds in it and cannot be consumed without disgarding the seeds. You have to do your due diligence and have discretion when it comes to babies because they are precious and delicate.
Who gives any types of chunky fruits, wet fruits with SEEDS or dry SEEDS to babies! Hell, even to toddlers without cutting them up & or making them totally soft or puréed!? Then wasn’t even monitoring him. Idiots 💔 praying for the parents bcuz this was preventable!
Exactly what I said! Why watermelon. You don’t give watermelon with seeds to a toddler. Clearly not cut up or soft enough. And to know there were issues with First Aid/CPR trained adults! Ridiculous
Actually, watermelon is safe at his age of 16 months. Daycare worker here, parents are supposed to provide small bite sized pieces of food including fruits to AVOID choking. Kids do choke when eating too fast, most kids cough it up (part of the process especially babies who are just learning to eat) the issue here is that he was not being watched at all. Could've been avoided. And daycare staff are supposed to be cpr and first aid trained.
@@i-mbalm that’s exactly what I said. The fruit was supposed to be cut up into tiny finger tip sizes, minus the seeds & not given into chunks that come pre-cut. I have fed watermelon to my children when they were very small. I crushed the watermelon up. Smooshed up enough to be spoon fed. Even juiced & let them drank watermelon juice ice cold. The staff was totally negligent & yes, 1000 percent at fault.
@@i-mbalm well in this instance the day care worker brought the watermelon in and don’t inform the parents of a different food being served like they where supposed too
Honestly who the hell would want to bring their child back to this place, but I don't judge cause life is rough and you have to work to support yourself and survive out here. My Heart goes out to the Family and the State needs to shut this place down
As a former day care worker, you may judge. They became angel makers by negligence through their desire to gum flap rather than keeping an eye on ALL children. We all had a list for each child and what they have and hadn't had before. When they had something new, it was made aware in advance and we always sat with the kids at their level to eat at the same time. So so so many little things that can be done to place yourself in an environment where you can babysit and talk WITH babies. No reason to be talking with each other. No improvement plan installs empathy
My baby will be 1 year old in 5days and I decided it was best to take a job working from home, even though I’d be earning less. No one can ever predict the negligence of the next person. My heart is broken for this family.
I am sorry sisy what kind of job are you working from home if i get real i pull my child out of daycare i am so scared i pulled out from daycare before switched to another one for same reasons
I’m 35, with a degree that can get me a great paying job. The moment I gave birth almost 3 years ago I knew I couldn’t hand over my child to strangers at a daycare. I have sacrificed so much to be a stay at home mom. A decision that I struggle with many times, knowing how my salary along with husband’s would make a world of difference for us financially. But I know in my heart I can’t go against a conviction I know God himself placed on my heart to stay home with my child. I just don’t TRUST THESE DAYCARE PEOPLE. I will keep this young grieving couple in my prayers.
I had no degree but had the heart to work in a daycare for 14 years +. Being experienced and God put me into these places. Still, I resigned when I had my kid. Working in the field with so many with the degree my kids would not have been safe. They were more mad with me cause I made more money than them and had a heart for kids.
I work at childcare and would not. I do my very best but others don’t. If u can keep ur kids in ur care and just hope ur kids are placed in good careers hand.
I did the same as you and have decided to stay home with my daughter until she was 3 years old. Her vocab is superb and only then did I feel comfortable sending her for 10 hours a week! The daycare system in the UK is more regulated and we’ve never had a child die whilst in daycare. However I still checked the qualifications of all staff, 1st aid certificates, they take pics of my daughter throughout the day, I go at random times to spy on them, I met with the district manager. I can tell the staff are nervous with me and rightly so! I stay on top of them and don’t play about anything! My child gives me a run down of her day and if there is anything I don’t like, e enas simply as another child telling her ‘I’m not your friend.’ I discuss this with them!
Anybody can open a daycare center parents need to make sure they are leaving their most precious prized possessions in the hands of capable loving individuals who are not psychopaths because some people (A disturbed few) will kill your kids just to destroy your life. If you have an ounce of common sense you don't give a toddler foods or non food items that they can choke on. Watermelon flesh should be Soft and mushy what part of the watermelon did someone serve him the RIND?! The fact that another child had to alert an adult tells me there is no supervision from staff whatsoever; absolute neglect. Remember: Childcare centers are notorious for hiring women for low wages who never took care of they're own children in life. My condolences to the heartbroken parents we all empathize and sympathize with you.
This is so sad I could not imagine what they must be feeling. I am truly sorry for your loss and pray that you find healing one day. Grief has no time limit take the time needed,I will be thinking of you guys.
My heart goes out to parents I’m so proud they have each others support because the pain in that mothers voice is heartbreaking 💔 shame on the daycare and the staff there’s no justice can be given in place of the lost they suffered!!! May that cute lil angel rest in peace ❤❤❤❤close that center down let that be a memorial and an example to the rest of the centers and take their licenses!!!!
there's nothing wrong with serving a child watermelon, for a toddler, it's just a matter of crushing up the fruit so that it is pretty much drinkable. it has nothing to do with serving the fruit, supervision, and training in CPR. now if they were on it and they did their due diligence in making sure the pieces were bite size for a baby's consumption, but it sounds like negligence because they weren't paying attention to them while they ate. My heart goes out to the parents. I am a director for child care location, and here in California we have super strict laws surrounding child care I think the most stringent in the country. I really feel for these parents. I will be having a talk with my staff about this case, it is so important to never sleep on these matters. I want to make sure every child goes home intact to their parents with no issues or regrets.
Huh? He was supposed to be supervised that is why he was there! CPR is a requirement and the staff was flagged for lack of cpr training! Stating that nothing is wrong with those things is insane!
@@cecebug6587they didn’t do what they were required to. I don’t know when people won’t comprehend that childcare is no different than healthcare. There are bad people involved and are only in it for profits! 😊
@@bmiss423 you need to go back and reread what I said right at the part where I said because they were being negligent.... I was only stating there is nothing wrong with serving watermelon to the children...
Right I used to babysit a lot when I was younger and this little boy I started babysitting when he was 3 months babysat him until he was 9 months and I used to watch him sleep because the idea that he could come to harm while in my care was unfathomable
That’s why I don’t let anyone watch my kids. I was abused by my babysitter who was also a relative. I’m so thankful that my husband is ok with my decisions to stay with my kids until they are old enough to speak clearly and our fully potty trained before I can go back into the work force because I just couldn’t handle something like this. This would absolutely crush me. I feel so saddened for this family. And to think I was just considering taking my 2 year old to daycare because she has never been around other babies, & her siblings are way older than her BUT this story is making me reconsider. I rather just have another baby instead.
Why not have a dechoker device in daycares? I realise it's not part of traditional first aid training but why not have it as an option? Horrifying that they couldn't save him.
Love you little son ..may your soul rest in peace..my heart goes out for you & your parents.... deepest condolences from my side.....love & respect from Pakistan.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your precious baby, you have my deepest sympathies and condolences with prayers!🙏❤️ It hurts my soul that your baby had to try and save himself by walking up to the employees who were to busy running their mouths! That alone makes your baby a true hero, because while he was still with us he tried his best to fight and survive, and I commend him for fighting!🫡🙏❤️
Children are fragile and innocent. You need to proceed with caution and monitor& supervise them like a hawk. My heart hurt for the grieving parents. Please be mindful of everything you do around children. My condolences to the parents and love ones
3 people there while a child choked no way . One person should of called 911 while one do CPR until help arrives . I’m a daycare worker for 30 years and I take those children lives very serious. We had a child had an asthma attack . I called 911 while one teacher gave her a breathing treatment and the other teacher was on the phone with the parent . And told the parent .
Oh they could have helped and saved that baby if they were on their job and focused!!!! Everyone can not be a childcare worker!!!!!! More to it than just babysitting like a teenager!!!!!
I hope like hell they get every dime from that daycare. It won't bring their sweet baby back but they need to shut that day care down!! & how the hell did they get away with not completing their CPR training?
Cpr and first aid classes should be mandatory for everyday daycare out there . That baby could’ve been saved . I had to save my ex little cousin she tried to put a crayon in her mouth 🤦🏽♀️😬 .
This why I don’t want my kids in public daycares or schools glad I’m able to homeschool my 6 year old and when other son gets older he gone be homeschool to
No fruit with seeds for children esp. if you're talking not watching them. This baby had to walk over to them because he was choking......they were that deep in conversation smh
How do you choke on watermelon? You don’t have to really chew it. My nephew is a similar age with a couple of teeth and eats watermelon. Perhaps an allergic reaction? I am sitting here crying for this senseless loss of an infant! 😭
These people really need to sue that daycare they should have made sure there was no seeds inside that watermelon that is just ridiculous and I hope that they sue and whoever was the one who served the watermelon should be in jail
