Irene Cunningham of the Cunningham Dancers Connemara and her young Sean Nos dancer student demonstrating the traditional Irish 'brush dance' at the first Clifden Traditional Music Festival April 2010
I mean the kid was truly amazing. Not just an ordinary student, but a star pupil for sure. This was nine years ago, so if she continued I'm sure she's among the very best there is nowadays.
This brought the grandest smile to my face. I'll have to make sure I plan my next trip to Ireland so that I can come through Clifden during the music festival.
Love this so much! The music is so happy and the movements so fun! Wonderful culture. I'm Scottish with a dash of Irish. Enough to get my toes tapping. 🍀
stunning absolutely see Deliverence , the Dual of the Banjo's....watch the Hillbilly elderly gentleman dance , stunning ... what is so amazing , a lot of the people , actually went to America and settled there, they never ever lost their love of the dance... Totally unique also the banjo, wow Thank you
What i get from this, aside from an amazing display of talent and culture, is that if you so much as hand the Irish a broom they'll find a way to make a party out of it
Just terrific! I love the symbolism of the broom, even with the mundane grind of everyday life to contend with there is always an opportunity for some fun and nonsense....
The first migration from Ireland to America was to the Appalacians in the 1700s, mostly by the Scots Irish. It was the origin of "Country Music". The second migration was post famine in the 1800/1900s, mostly to the American cities. Irish Gaelic and Scots Gaelic are closely related languages, and spread from N E Ireland into the Highlands and Islands of Albann/Alba - Scotland.
