An extreme heat wave that has its grip on Southern California is increasing the risk of fires and keeping firefighters on high alert.
Several fires broke out across the region over the weekend, prompting some residents to be evacuated from their homes.

Yes, fires can indeed spontaneously ignite. That's how extreme heat, dry brush, sunlight, and reflections work (just as one example). Beyond that, all it takes is one loose battery cell--large or small--and if it overheats amidst dry brush, cloth, etc., you may have yourself an inferno in 6-12 minutes.

on July 4th, I was driving home from my friends house and people were putting fire works on. One of the fireworks didn’t go up and went on the street so there was a little spark on the street. People could’ve gotten hurt. If it landed like 3 feet farther, then it would’ve hit a tree and start a fire. Thank you God

I just saw the smoke from the Lytle Creek fire coming home off the 10 fwy. I hope the fire does not spread south over the ridge. There are a lot of homes that could be in danger.

May the firefighters be safe and fight and put out the 🔥 in California and FYI who ever started the fire 🔥 u guys are cowards for starting a fire and especially risking people and properties and firefighters lives hopefully they have it under control cuz I know now in summer in California we have high risk for wildfires
