Take a bow! Simply amazing, Joe. Regarding those who question the high cost of these assets, I had the opposite feeling. The time alone that I will save in developing my projects makes these assets well worth the price. Please keep doing what you're doing!

It's hard for me to understand as well. the basic environment shaders pack is $10. With that you can already follow the entire brushify bootcamp.

I'm in the process of creating my first auto-landscape material but it tends to be a bit overwhelming in the beginning. I went through a ton of courses and videos on multiple platforms and after 4-5 months I finally understand the concept and how it's made. I'm just frustrated I cannot managed to remember all the node names and I don't understand quite a bunch of them. Blending materials was the toughest for me and also mixing procedural auto landscape + foliage with manual painted layers applying procedural textures on slopes too. Thanks for the info, it helped a lot!

I love these tuts , I have bought one of the packs and was fortunate enough to download the arctic last month , I can't wait to buy the natural roads and forest pack.These tools are a life saver and are bang on the buck.

Good video, and well explained. The landscape copy&paste tool also scales, so you can take large features and paste them as small one and vice versa.

Amazing Joe, all of this makes so much more sense now. Am currently developing landscapes in VR so really get up close and personal with it all so your boot camp making it look the best it can thank you :). next on the list will be procedural weather (layering snow, water to ice to water, etc) then I will have my realistic game environment

In my eyes they are worth every penny, nearly got all the packs now just want the mountain and cliff pack, my game in development uses just brushify's pack's for the terrain alongside the updated ultra dynamic sky it looks amazing, one thing that would be amazing though joe is an update on the water, maybe an infinite ocean with foam, buoyancy and what not, i do use nilsonlima's ocean shader it looks good but id like an ocean built to your standard :)

I really like how you explain everything step by step and show how to fix common problems (e.g. like here: 48:08 ) I can see how passionate you are in what you're doing just by seeing how you enjoy playing the platform game you made in the video :D Keep up the great work! Thanks for all your help. I've just buy Dunes + Desert mountain + Shaders, I would not have guy Shaders knowing it's already in other packs, I wondered but wasn't clearly said... anyway I'm happy of with your tools, can't wait to get some more, and I'm happy to support in a way having both Shaders. ^^

Hi, Was thinking I would like to see how to add a cave to the map, and you talked about it some. I think it would be a terrific *most wanted tutorial to see how to have a cave in a mountain. -Adam

How would I make the painting process smarter? At height A it is one texture, at B it transitions to another texture, at C to another at Z to another.. While retaining slope blends of course. The idea is to make an ocean floor, a beach, grasslands, hills, mountains, snow peaks.. in one stroke of a brush. Amazing asset!

Thanks to Brushify i have started to use UE and it's wonderful! Thanks Joe! Ps: the only problem that I'm not understanding is that when i try to change a texture from let's say dunes layer the compiling shaders will go crazy like 250000! And i have to wait for 1-2 ours... really crazy! What is going on #JoeGarth? I have a few 3d objects and a 2km landscape.

250000 seems really high. Have you tried to change the materials on a smaller landscape? That can help with compile times.

@@brdklt what I mean is, you can make material changes on a smaller landscape, and compile there. Then they won't need to compile for the larger landscape. It's more efficient that way. you can also expose the textures you want to modify to material instances, but then those changes will only be saved in material isntances, rather than the material functions themselves. In unreal engine there will always be large compiling times for shader changes.. The best thing is to upgrade to a very fast multi core cpu like a threadripper. They're not that expensive nowadays.

@@brdklt I would question why it's such a high shader count. 250,000 is extremely high. I've never had to wait hours on a threadripper. Its usually compiled in 2 minutes at most.

All the textures and surfaces from Megascans have UV tiling issues, and no displacement, some them can't be fixed with this solution... and some can't have displacement activated.... weird and sad, as they have such an awesome library... this works just great.

@Joe Garth - can you make tutorial where Brushify got endless landscape - forever? It's could be nice to see procedurally generated infinite runner with Brushify where landscape spawns with Brushify ahead of player and its disappears behind of player (but it's not noticeable for players and it does not reduce performance at all). It's could be very cool tutorial from You. Kind Regards!

Hello Joe, I am working on a big architectural project in UE 5.2 nad I bought your Moorlands pack to use it in the project. The problem is that when I apply the material to the landscape, it looks too bright, the grass has no shadows and occlusion at all. Why is that and do you know how to fix it?

Very good video, Joe. Thank you! I'll need to watch it a few more times to absorb. I made a question on Twitter, you probably have not seen it yet. I use the grasslands automaterial on a map that I'm working on, and every time I load up the map it starts compiling 1200 items. I presume it is planned that way but can you give me some background on that? All my other items and props are loading instantly. The other is that I took some cliffs from one of the packs, and when I build lighting I get all the errors that it it has overlapping UVs. I've heard it is not much of a problem but could you say something about it to ease my mind on it? I aim to see as few warnings as I possibly can :-) For the next video in the same longer style, may I request that to be about foliage? I made my own foliage, but I'm not sure that I've done it well. I'm interested in general foliage creation workflow first, like do I need to manually create LODs? Or Culling? When I created the foliage first, I got error message that the lightmap size is not enough. I solved it by setting the grass movable, but to be honest I don't know anything about the implications of that. How can I achieve a lush forest look without effing up my system with hours of loading and building times? I've started building 2 small islands and with half of 1 island it takes 5-10 min for a lighting build, When I had the look I wanted first, it took 2 hours :D Maybe a bad question but when you build a level, how do you go at it? do you always need to sculpt the whole thing out first and add foliage, trees etc to it then detail or you can develop a small area and move on? When you add foliage, do you always use procedural foliage or the foliage painter tool? Thanks in advance.

Good grief, this terrain creation could burn a ton of hours, days, weeks! 😂 Fun though 😁 For my initial terrain for my game, I will create an island. Smallish. Primarily for me to continue developing the game. The default level is getting very tired now, lol. And very, very cramped!

Dumb question but if I'm using the landmass tool and my map is complete and they decide to discontinue it in the future that won't mess my map up right? As long as I've completed it?

I have it added to terrain, and while on PLAY it looks amazing and ty so much, while just in eidtor mode and flying around terrain, its all just very reflective, no textures showing of any kind. Am I missing any 'show' tab options maybe ( top left of editor window)?

Hi, I have question when I start my UElauncher I get notifications on updates on you're wonderfull packs. Is there also some list what's been updated? Since Word Creator has a recommended spec of a gpu with 4 gb vram, wouldnt gtx 1050 4gb vram be more than enough?

No, there's a lot more to it and real world data is a gamechanger. I'm not able to talk about my exact pipeline in too much detail though.

Hey, Joe! Awesome work. I've been playing with the shader and have been wondering how to disable foliage from spawning on the slope materials. Depending on the type of meshes you are using for foliage on the base materials they can look very funky/floaty on the slopes/hills and I would like to remove the spawned foliage them altogether from it... How can I achieve this? i'm still new to this so a clear explanation would be extremely appreciated. Thank you so much

Hey, try Grass.flushcache to refresh any floating foliage. You can disable foliage entirely by going into MI_Landscape and using the tickboxes. please follow the FAQ here: www.brushify.io/faq

@@HavokSage Appreciate the fast response. However, there is no mention on the FAQ on removing the grass patches that appear on the hills. I am not referring to the "slope pebbles" Checking the tickboxes removes the foliage entirely from the slopes AND the grass/ground. I am only looking to remove the patches of grass that spawn on steep hills. What I am referring to is at 43:15 on the bottom left you can see traces of grass on the hills that spawn grass meshes on the slopes themselves... Is there a way to be able to remove that so the Landscape Grass types ONLY appear on the ground but not on their respective slopes?

Also I have re purchased these assets now that i have got my pc working. Sorry to think it was the brushify packs, I was fast to assume because of the stress levels involved with the project. It turned out nvidia messed it up with a driver update somehow

58:18 - I'm using UE5.1 and also using Blueprint Brushes to shape my landscape. When I try the Visibility tool, it doesn't seem to work. The brush becomes red and in the 'Target Layers' tab, there is a note saying "There are some areas where visibility painting is disabled because Component/Proxy don't have a 'Landscape Visibility Mask' node in their material". I'm new to Unreal (and gamedevelopment). What does that note mean?

Hi, By default brushify already has a visibility mask assigned. If you go to material you can see it plugged into Opacity. Do you have brushify MI_Landscape assigned to your landscape?

@@HavokSage Oh, it is something you have to assign? I thought it would work out of the box. I'm not using Brushify. As I'm learning, I'm trying to make my own Landscape and AutoMaterial. Best way to learn things is to create as much as possible by yourself.

How can I use my World Machine outputs with Brushify?

Yes. You can use world machine as a heightmap input, and also to generate flowmaps. That will be a in future episodes.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly? The 183/260 is the Cooking Filepath length. It's not related to the actual function of the file itself. It's just an indicator for developers so they don't exceed the 260 character filepath limit. The file path length depends on where you store your layer info e.g. the filepath of the file.

Hey just a question, whenever I try to sculpt, I see this weird "preview" text written on the slopes, do you know the reason why?

okay, I understood, that was because of light source. I was rotating the light source and the text was falling like a shadow on the ground. Weird. It would be great if you do some tutorial on lighting.

@@bkaravind3544 set your sun light to movable. It's the static shadow preview text. It's the bane of my existence. So many people ask about it and get confused. Hopefully in ue5 they remove it completely when it goes fully realtime.

threadripper 1950x, 64GB Ram, 1080TI. The packs are highly optimized though so shouldn't require that high end hardware to run. It is very useful to have a powerful machine when level editing though.
