For future reference. Putting the tip of a soldering gun on those set screws on the Pinon gear for a minute or so releases that glue and they come out real easy. Be careful though it will be really hot.
Hiya. Yeah there are great tips, I haven't found that to work so great but that may also be the tip of the soldering iron. I'll order and new tip and try again. Thanks for the info! Have a lovely evening. 😊👍
Ooh! You have the same screwdriver set i have and love! Surpass hobby has a servo, 60A esc, 4k brushless motor combo that works GREAT with either 2 or 3s and goes into all the wltoys cars 12th scale or greater. My 3s 104001 does >50mph. I run out of room trying to get faster but shes got gas to go.
I'm quite new to the rc world, and I was pretty impressed with this car with the brushed motor, now with the brushless system, you have definitely turned it into a little beast. Great video 📹.
Hiya. Yes it's amazing how a motor change can transform a car. What I'm most impressed with is that we had a total of four days of filming, testing, jumping, rolling and crashing. Oh forgot when Colin threw it into a boulder. And not one thing has broken. Or bent! (other than tyres and they were never supposed to go at double the speed). That's impressive for any car but even more so when you consider its also handled the higher speeds meaning more energy in jumps and crashes. 😂 I've been converted with this car. Yes it's not 1:10th, but everything else is impressive! Have a great day!
@@JohnRobinsonRC I think my mind is made up about my about the budget basher I have been looking for. Thanks for the reply and advice, have a great day yourself.
Nice video, I put 3650 pretty much everywhere too. :)) I think this car has a point of gravity slightly too high, you may fix the front flipping by lowering the trim, or with a small (~75 grams) ballast on the tail, or with different (foam) tyres. When lowering the brake power to the bare minimum was not enough all these solutions worked for me. Gave you a sub!
Hiya and thanks for the comment and tips. I honestly think it was just my strong brake but I will test your solutions. Thanks a lot. Have an awesome day!
I've been using a refillable butane kitchen torch lighter to put direct heat on small spots like that grub screw. It does the trick and only cost about 20 USD. Of course, you need a can of butane refill, but for under 25 USD total it makes life much easier. They also make specific butane torches that cost a bit more, but the kitchen torch hasn't failed me yet. I imagine that the torch would last quite a while since it doesn't get used a lot, and the can of butane should last well over a year.
Yeah just got the email. Thanks again! It's much appreciated!! Here is the link if others want to pick one up. www.amazon.com/dp/B089G4C69W/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_JZMP4CQA21T167E3SXHA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Soldering iron helps with set screws and as far as stock tires on that terrain, I think with the added power from brushless, the need for light tires for heat reasons on the stock system no longer applies, and your climbing/crawling would see a major improvement from the added benefit of a more suitable tread pattern as well as foams/weight etc.
Definitely nutty lol.need to get a receiver with gyro for my 124019 can't keep the thing straight at all.4370kv surpass init. Tore my tyres to shreds earlier today lol.and they taped and glued.. it's crazy.no more avoiding contact foams lol
4370kv! You are crazy man! Not surprising it Tore apart the tyres! Gyro for sure. I just wrote I'm going to try and get footage tomorrow of it on the gravel with the gyro to see if it improves it! I'm sure it will.
@@JohnRobinsonRC I've just been looking at these separate gyro modules for about £10-15 any idea if any good mate.looks like you plug it into existing receiver??
@@JohnRobinsonRC it is a real handful mate.need a lot of room. Gotta be pushing 85mph easy if I could keep it straight and keep the tyres from shredding lol
Love the video! Great real time upgrade! Question. I have 2 of the 104009’s and both of them started making loud gear grinding noises after we started doing small jumps in the yard . We have broken a few cvds etc but the grinding is new. Easy fix? Any help is appreciated?
You mean after I pulled it off? Yes that's also a good idea but sorting my soldering iron would be the best solution but if that doesn't work then your advice is next! 😊😊😁👍 Have a lovely evening. Kind regards. John. 😊👍
This could be a good option for me In the future, I'm looking at getting a truck/buggy of some sort but either they are super expensive or (rubbish) 🤣. Ive got a 124019 speed runner and a Maverick Strada Rx which I absolutely love but the thing just fills up with dirt whenever I take it off road which gets a bit annoying after a while
Yeah constantly cleaning and clearing a car becomes annoying after a while. Sometimes the hobby is just about driving and I for one sometimes forget that. Lately though I'm concentrating more about the experience than the footage or shots and feeling like I'm having fun again which important. I said on an earlier comment that after the 4 days of bashing and crashing and jumping the 104009 hasn't broken a thing. Tore the tyres off but that's the power. So for a pure cheap basher then this could be the one. Have a lovely evening and sorry for the late reply. Your comment was in the RU-vid spam folder. 😞 Stay safe!
@@JohnRobinsonRC I absolutely agree with you there, Sometimes it's just about getting out and driving and enjoying the hobby. You are also 100% Right about having to clean the car out every time you use it. Definitely starts to wear a bit thin after a while. A basher is definitely on the cards for the future. Another enjoyable video 👍👍
Hiya. Yes sorry that's something I have mentioned before but did not on this occasion. At the time I did not have any thread lock so I used some of my wives nail polish. Works very well in fact. 😊🤣👌👍
Have you ever replaced the supplied motor with a different 540 Brushed motor? My servo decided to replace all the elevtronics. I have a radio, reciever, servo and brushed ESC. My motor is pretty beatup so I am thinking about buying a Tamiya Sport Tuned 540 motor. Do you think it will run any different? Faster, Slower? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Hey man! I want to buy the brushless upgrade kit for my 144001 on banggod. It includes a motor a 120a esc a servo and a transmitter with reciever. Do you think I need to programm the esc? Or is it good to go like it is? Thank you
Hiya. Sometimes the full kits can be not as good as buying separately but if you think it's good then go for it. No need for a program card if you don't want.
@@adampsrcs3487 yeah it's worth having for sure, but if on a budget it's not required. You could wait in my opinion. I bought one and haven't used it on any car or setup. Must try and find it! 😂😂😂
Hiya. Yes it is, I just have to get a servo three wire connector and connect the plus and minus to it from the lights. Then if you have a 3 or 4 ch transmitter you can turn them on and off as you desire. 😉👍
@@JohnRobinsonRC u mind doing a video on this? I'm quite the beginner in this and I'm interested to try a brushless conversion but I do not want to lose the lights (1 of the reasons I got this model). Thanks for the quick reply!
Honestly I think it's bullet proof. It's not the fastest but for sure it's the strongest I have had on the channel. If you add brushless then it ticks a lot of boxes for not so much money.
Well it's months later and still going strong. I just checked and no signs of wear. It's never really been a weak point with WLToys. Many other parts maybe, but not this. Have an awesome Sunday! 😊👍🏼
Hi mate it's me again! I have a problem with my shocks on my 144001. When I compress the car and let go again the car doesn't come back to normal hight. It gets stuck a few centimeters lower than normal. Do you know how to fix this? Thanks like always, you're the best.
Hiya. Yeah it sounds like you either have air in the system or dirt. First you can try taking odd the spring and stretching it to double its length. Then put it back on and test again. If it returns to normal height you are done. Well done! 😂 If not you will have to open them and see. You can see clearly if fluid is missing or air in the system or of course dirt. If it's any of these then empty it out and refill with new oil. I fill to the top and move the shaft up and down a few times (not above the fluid) and then loosely put the cap on so the excess drops over the edge. So when you remove the cap the fluid looks like its just below the top. Wait for an hour for the air to escape and put the caps on. When you push the shaft in it should return by about 30%. That's perfect. Put it back together and you are done. Simple. Enjoy! Hope that helps.
@@JohnRobinsonRC thank you. I opened them today refilled them a bit and put them back together. There was no dirt in them but it can be possible that there was some air.
Yes air is so hard to diagnose because as soon as you open them it of course escapes. But if its lots of bubbles it turns the oil a milky colour so if its not clear then it could have been air. If it is clear then let's hope the added oil fixes it. But you HAVE to leave the cap off for an hour as tiny air bubbles hide under the round plastic on the shaft so take your time and be patient. 😉😉😉😁⌚
Not at all. What I just explained in another comment my soldering iron tip is crud. So will order a new one and see how I get on. I was recommended on a previous video and when I tried I couldn't make it work so gave up. Then mentioned again and it's the tip not getting hot enough. So I will try next time with the soldering iron and I'm sure I will be more successful. Thanks for the information and have a lovely evening. 😊👍
No not really when you consider the speed and the fact it held up very well. I would however add that a bottle of 6 usd glue is required for the tyres! 😂😂
Yes me too to be honest. Seems like a strange place to save a few cents/pence but it held up so let's see how long it does. I am going to try another speed run tomorrow after gorilla taping the rear tyres. Fingers crossed I get to full throttle. 🤞😁🦍🦍🦍
@user-nz4ib3qi6y yes to the receiver where it gets it's power from. Problem i have is that my receiver is missing from my car. Cannot remember why. So maybe if the receiver that comes with it is OK, then you won't need to swap connectors.
Good afternoon. great video...please advise about battery life in this setting. time of use and battery used. 2S and 3S. thanks. David from Perth west oz RC made the upgrade with a 3100KV motor. What is better??
Yeah I regret not putting the receiver with the gyro in while on the gravel as I think this truck is perfect for it. I'll try and get some footage tomorrow and upload it as long as its improved of course. 😉😊
@@JohnRobinsonRC nah just upload the video anyways,😄 give your brutal honest opinion on that dumbass little gyro.😂 If it brings even a little improvement; it'll be worth it..😂😬
Good touch with the mask John your almost half good looking haha..All your videos look like Malta has the perfect weather do you have a spare room? lol That's quick for a big buggy like that..thanks for sharing mate
I know right! Masks seem to make everyone better looking! 😂😂 Yeah Malta has 300 days of sunshine apparently which helps a lot for making rc videos. Thanks for watching and have a great day. Kind regards, John.
How goes it my friend that thing is cool now .must be geared really low to crawl up that hill with 3900 kv motor You know what that means u can gear it way up lol
