This week, Ellie and I are in Chengwatana State Forest in Minnesota. We began by setting up our cabin amidst a buzzing forest plagued by relentless deer and horse flies. We headed out into the forest and our first stop was the Million Dollar Bridge overlooking the majestic Snake River. Of course, we couldn't resist jumping in the water.
Our next destination was St. Croix State Park, where we checked out the fire tower. It provided us with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, leaving us in awe. Afterwards, we found ourselves running low on gasoline, but rather than refuel immediately, I made a decision to hike down to the mesmerizing Kettle River High Banks.
After fueling up, we made our way back to the cabin, where I prepared a delicious meal of chicken fried rice. As the evening settled in, we relaxed on the porch, savoring the moment with a glass of whiskey, embracing the serenity of our surroundings.
The following morning, I embarked on an e-bike adventure, hoping to reach the river. However, my bike's battery had other plans, and I found myself racing against time as it ran low. Eventually, I reached the river, but my battery gave out, leaving me to endure a relentless onslaught of horse flies during my hours-long journey back to the cabin. The battle was fierce, but I persevered, eventually triumphing over the insect invaders.
Despite the challenges we faced, this camping trip was an unforgettable experience filled with stunning landscapes, incredible landmarks, and cherished moments of solitude. Join us as we relive the highs and lows of this remarkable adventure.
