In this video I dust myself off and gear up for another attempt to find the Fincham hut, which has been hidden away for 40 years. 15 km away from civilisation it sits, nestled on the side of the Franklin river. I soon find out out the trip has a lot more bargaining for it that I initially imagined..

Well done Rob,another epic clip. When the Raglan track was open to vehicles a mate lost his 75 series Landcruiser flat tray up there,it caught fire and totaled it.They recovered the wreck and bought it back to Hobart. Also your Jane river clip was a bit sad, in the visitors book at Benettos hut two of my mates left messages,Bishac and Peter.Sadly Peter passed away about 15 years ago,he was only 54.Keep the clips coming mate, they are brilliant. One of the best things done in this adventure was being man enough to call for help instead of having false bravado of doing it yourself. It should take away the fears of any beginner trekker that if you need to use the epirb....do it. Sweet hut. Thanks for the journey. Cheers!

Loved watching this Rob ! I was last in there in 1990 or 91 just before the Raglan track was closed. Amazing how overgrown it is now. Another wild walk you could do is to follow the surveyed (and partially built/ cleared) road from mt Mc Cutcheon HEC work camp site out to Warners Landing on the Gordon river. Probably best to arrange a boat pickup at the Warners end though. Would love to go myself but worn out knees wont allow that... great work mate !!

Hi Rob. I felt your pain on this trip which I did with 18 HWC members in December 1979. It was a wet miserable experience .We managed to get 12 people into the current Hut, 3 into an old leaking Hut and 3 of us camped on the Helipad for a most uncomfortable night in our old Paddy Pallin Japara Tents with no built in groundsheet. Sweet Memories for this old Fellow. Another great presentation of yours. Looking forward to the next one.🤠

Epic journey there Mate!! You haven't bush walked in Tassie if you haven't come across horizontal scrub and cut grass, snow, ice. It can be quite brutal, hey! Great views of the Du Cane Range too!! Awesome Rob!

Reinforcing a few lessons for me. Never attach anything to outside of pack or use open pockets in scrub. Always take a laminated map (plus spare) and compass. Given it's out and back, solo, and obviously full-on scrub bashing, several good reasons to use track tape. A 5l cask water bladder weighs nothing.

You might have had to use your epirb, but thankfully you were not in as bad of a situation as Adam Greentree who was on the side of a mountain with nowhere to go and he couldn't go back the way he had come. He had issues using his epirb because he had no service to confirm he needed help. By chance they showed up to rescue him. Stay safe and keep the beauty of Tasmania coming.

Love your videos Rob! You pack more epic adventure into a 20 minute film than a big-budget National Geographic documentary. A suggestion, you could attach short cords with those miniature carabiners from the $2 shop to your GPS, phone, camera, epirb etc to your backpack?

Great video and another great adventure Rob! As you were tackling that brutal brush couldn't help but think back to old 40's and 50's films where the suave explorers had a team of natives slash a path through the jungle for them!. I kept expecting you would at one stage whip out a machete to cut your way through 😂😂 Breathtaking views from the top and the flight of the eagle priceless. Looking forward to your next video! 🤗

Really enjoying all of your videos, but especially this one. It is great to see some of the really wild parts of Tassie. When you got to the hut I realised I'd been there in 1999! But we walked in from Frenchman's Cap down a untracked spur to reach the Franklin at the cable crossing near the hut. We walked out along the Raglan range too - but it was not really overgrown at all at that time, even in the lower reaches. Anyway great channel and thanks for all your work on it.
