This is an intro drill, and it's solid. At a more advanced level you'd angle offline, grab the arm anywhere you can (not necessarily the thumb), off-balance the opponent and strike, maybe do a return to sender, and only then isolate the thumb and effect a disarm.

Trying to catch or pick a maniacal moving shank out of mid-air is a wet dream, this will get someone hurt or killed, not reality or realistic . A dangerous false sense of skill. Stuff don't work under murderous pressure or real life....,unless the guy is comatose, sloppy drunk about to pass out on his own. Options: run, use a gun, another weapon, total blitzkrieg assault on terminal targets of the body from a distance, i.e., finger jab , knee kick destruction, windpipe crushing punch, etc ,.

Excellent. Not trying to fully make a wrist lock do the whole job.. instead start it and push the knife out through the weak part of the grip! And yes... disarms are the last ditch maneuvers.

I follow Sean Connery's advice and always bring a gun to a knife fight.

A gun is not the be all, end all. I many states, you shoot someone who threatens you with a knife, YOU end up in prison. Since you're so willing to carry a gun, if in fact you do, you then need to know hand-to-hand combatives, because, again a gun is not the be all, end all, as you have been sorely misled to believe.

@@TACTICALNOMAD A gun is a Texan's birthright. Don't let Liberals decide your fate. Every shooting I have is justified. I'm not worried about hand to hand. The Marine Corps 2nd Recon taught me all I need. I use Pankration or BJJ if they're unarmed.

On that I agree... and yes I am a Texan. A J .38 in the Appendix position can be draw and fired in less than a second from the hip. And very close range if you draw while stepping aside you can stay out of range of a lunge and give 'em all five shots quite accurately. And in Texas it is now a 'Constitutional Carry' state. Thus if no felony convictions you can pack.

@@thisismagacountry1318, A gun is EVERY American's birthright, as stated in the Second Amendment. What years were you in The 2nd? I had friends that were 2nd. I might know who you are?! Since you're trained in MCMAP, you understand about the disparity of force. Also, as a former II MEF SOCOM, you understand the importance of H2H, CQB and neutralizing the threat expeditiously, especially when operating in a forward manner, right? In the Corps, when were you ever trained to fight on the ground? That is a no joy. Were you : A B C D or FR? Did you serve as a Green or Black? Thank you for your service. Semper Fi!

@@TACTICALNOMAD I was the Corpsman for 2nd from 77 to 81. Had to graduate top of my battlefield medical school to get that assignment. Back then we were at Onslow Beach, but I've heard they moved it since. They taught me everything, even let me shoot "unofficially" at the rifle range even though I was relegated to the 1911 .45 ACP.

The only chance you have is to from long range score an eye flick. But not just any eye jab. Fingers pointed in a triangle. A snake weapon. #viperjkd we teach #daninosanto version of #jkd ✅🐉This is one of my teachers. I’ve learned much from him. But honest though. Knives are crazy to try n grab at. Paul can show you meat sliced with a knife. It cuts deep. Not to mention, we can’t know what angle or hand position.

I was talking with a past instructor that worked security in some pretty bad areas. When I asked if he had every seen somebody get stabbed he said "GET stabbed no. You only see them after they have BEEN stabbed ". Meaning if the guy knows what he is doing you'll never see the weapon . But then he went on to say that there were several times where somebody was presenting a knife and trying to keep people away or threaten them and I could see thats a great example where having some disarm options at least would come in handy .

Oh wow! Its been some time sense I looked up Paul Vunak, I recall training with him in the 90's until I left Connecticut, 1998. Vunak also introduced many to Gracie JJ (Rickson who I might add gave me a right spiral fracture and Kali. I then moved on to receive rank in Sayoc Kali. I'm sorry but after 25 years, I am somewhat in tears after hearing the voice and then seeing the reminisce of the man, who now looks like a crack/meth head. I am utterly in shock. Again, understand where I am coming from I don't mean to judge, but his muscle loss is astonishing so the drug rumors were true. May Yah look over him, I will keep him in prayer.

I never went for disarms because they won't work against a competent streetfighter. I usually kicked him in the leg or gut then smashed him in the head. One time in Paterson, I was able to trap the attacker's arm and I broke his elbow.
