What I always say to anyone buying a range rover is keep a few thousand in an account to pay for any issues that might crop up . The main issue is people buy them, realise they can’t afford to run them and skimp on maintenance, a good guide is look at the tyres on the car , cheap tyres usually means it’s been ran on a budget.
I bought a 2019 Autobiography V8TD in April, 40k miles, 2 owners. Paid £44k with 12 month warranty, and have to say it’s a fabulous car. Like you I don’t get fleeced for insurance and I fitted Ghost. I love it.
If I had a Range Rover I’d fit them with Apple airtags as Range Rovers are partial to be stolen and shipped overseas, a guy in Canada followed his stolen Range Rover to a garage forecourt in Dubai. That’s a beautiful car dude enjoy it.
As the owner of a Jag XF and a Discovery Sport, I know how dependable they are, and so I’m toying with treating myself and getting a run out FFRR. But the stories do concern me, so it’s nice to hear someone confirm my view. They’re no better or worse than anything else. Only problem is, even after 10 years, my 12 year old Jag is still so utterly brilliant, I can’t bring myself to part with it.
I have a P400e as 80% of my journeys are 20-30 miles these days. Over the last 1000 or so miles it has averaged 68mpg. As you say, do proper due diligence and buy a one owner car with full dealer history and you should be OK. Cars are mechanical objects with many moving parts. They will wear out and need parts replaced, irrelevant of which brand you buy. In my experience, there are a large number of people who buy a 2nd hand Range Rover who don't factor in the proper costs of servicing. These are cars that cost well over £80k when new. If you buy a cheap one for £20k, it still has the maintenance cost of a £80k car. Just like any premium brand. My P400e replaced a 2014 Range Rover Sport V6 diesel. In the years I owned it apart from scheduled servicing, the only thing that failed was an oxygen sensor that cost £45 for the part. Brilliant cars
Listen, I've had my FFRR 2015 l405 Autobiography for over nearly 2 years and it's been impeccable. It's done 128000 miles and drives like new. It's had a remap and I get 40mpg driving sensibly. Do an oil change every 3000 miles and look after it and you won't go wrong. There amazing Vehicle's.

People like you drive these old sh1t boxes to try and give off an image of being successful, truth of it is you couldn’t afford to buy a set of premium tyres for it. JLR reliability is absolutely shocking, just because you appear to have got lucky does NOT change that fact.
Likewise Denis. I've had my 2019 FFRR Autobiography from new for 4.5 years and it's been faultless. The V8 petrol engines are bulletproof and if you buy the model towards the end of its run ahead of an all new vehicle being launched, all the little glitches have been ironed out. I love it and and as you say, I look after it and get it serviced when needed like clockwork.
I won't say needed but I don't believe in 12k or 18k oil changes. The engine will love you for it. I change oil filter every 6K or every second oil change. I'm maybe a wee bit OCD but prevention is better than cure.
Like you, I have a 2018 RR Vouge SE, on 30k miles, and yes, like you I love it, I also agree with all your value for money tips, and like you, I did fit a ghost immobiliser to it, and as a visual deterrent I use a very quick to fit steering wheel lock. It would never put a serious thief off, but it is an extra piece of security that would be in there way.
I have a similar car to yours. Autobiography with very low miles bought from a main dealer with two years warranty. Like you absolutely zero problems and an incredible car for 40% of its new cost. Can't think of anything I'd rather be in for most of the drives I do. I get late 30's on motorway runs and about 30 on short trips.
Have to agree with you on the Range Rover, have the 2015 sports from new, comfortable, nippy, had no major problem,,,, Beautiful drive & also protected by Ghost alarms,

A quick YT search, or scan various forums will show even more evidence of ownership problems! For me, I just look at the problems my friends' dad had with his Discovery, and the hassle my uncle and brother-in-law went/go through with their Jags. 8 unscheduled trips to the garage in the (bought from new) first year of ownership, is taking the Mick in Toyotaland!
Without having owned one of these, only a Freelander 2 back “in the days” the same applies. There are some models of every make that are terrible, like Freelander 1, but I don’t think the L405 and other LR products are that bad. But they are high maintenance brands and a huge problem is some people buying these expecting Toyota or Mazda ownership cost.
Unfortunately most FFRR owners only do local runs yet the diesel isn’t designed for it, thus the DPF doesn’t regenerate and diesel ends up mixed with the engine oil. Eventually you get all the catastrophic engine failure horror stories we hear about.
Bought a 2013 L405 with 106k and service history, always wanted one, 2 weeks later the crank snapped! Had taken partly on HP and was able to reject the car. So pleased it did go junk, coz I’d paid 23k in March 23 and now you can’t give them away and on top of that the insurance is gobsmacking!
I've had a Range 2016 Sport Autobiography. LR3 Jag X-type All have been very dependable. I have a Land Cruiser because I needed a 7 seater, and I know there are some Range Rovers with 7 seats but I just couldn't find one at the time. Insurance was stupid for the Land Crusier. I got quoted £5,400 for the Land Cruiser from A-Plan. I talked to Tesco insurance and now I pay £813 fully comp. Just shop around.
pretty good insurance price , just got another renew quote and the company is asking £1100 for my 2018 evoque for me and the wife , I am 52 and all clean with 10 years no claim , thank fully got it down to just over £700. Love the colour of your vogue and the wood looks modern
In recent times, I have seen more VW's broken down than any other make, followed by BMW, then Merc. Once upon a time these makes were never seen broken down. I would have a good quality used Range Rover any day.
check you front suspension knuckles for cracks - mine is a late 2016, Bothe were cracked. VIN not in the recall range so £2900 at JLR service centre to replace
I collected my 18 plate RRS 7 weeks ago. In that time i have had it for 17 days and it was fault free for 2 days. Currently going through the reject process. Got a car from a main dealer thinking everything woukd be fine. But it wasnt. I waited over 20 years to own one and its been a disaster
@@parigibelgrado5120 When I collected it there were scratches on the boot and rear bumper that weren't there when I looked at it. The AC wasn't working and the roof blind was making a racket. It went in for investigation on the Monday and required £4k of work plus the paint work. Trying to book it in for the work was a nightmare. I was calling 3 to 4 times a day and no one would return my calls or emails. I ended up having to go in on the Friday to sort it out with the service manager. Couldn't claim under warranty as they were there when I collected the car so the dealer was paying for the work which would take 2 to 3 days. I got a call on the Wednesday afternoon saying that my warranty approval has just gone in. I asked why as the dealer was paying and the service advisor replied oh yeah I can see that now. Told them I was going away on Sunday so need the car back on Saturday. The car wasn't ready until the Saturday I got back and then had a low coolant warning on the Monday leaving puddles of coolant on my drive. On top of this they hadn't fitted some missing trim to the roof which I was trying to sort out all day. I called 3 times to sort the trim and coolant issues before finally being told I wasn't allowed to speak to the service manager. I had to call again on the Tuesday for someone to call me back and speak to me like crap. I had to get LR recovery to look at the car and finally got it in to the dealer on the Thursday evening to be told it could be September before I got it back. 5 weeks. The constant calling with no replies, snotty service advisors that laugh at you and don't know what they are doing was enough for me.
Long term RR owner here. L405 is lovely car and I’ve had no issues despite what the keyboard warriors will espouse 🤔 I’m 2nd owner and it’s been dealer maintained and now I reputable 4x4 service provider. I however just cancelled my order for L460 as I’m not prepared to take a 70% depreciation hit after 5 years. JLR are loosing customers as they aren’t supporting market prices, so muggings like me are sick of taking a hit and will run this one into the ground. JLR don’t give a shit as these are selling like hotcakes in USA, whereas there are masses of cancelled U.K. orders sat at dealership in U.K.
Great video, the insurance is ridiculous as a 64yr old bloke, i can get a Porsche Macan 3.0 deisel 2016 insured for £450, i would happily take that Rangerover over the macan but the insurance and theft worries are ridiculous, 👍😊
Don't even think about buying a 5 year old Range Rover Vogue. Itll be too far down the food chain by then. People start skimping on proper servicing. It'll be lit up like a Christmas tree during your ownership, and itll cost you a fortune to have it fixed. You've been warned! Dont even think abiut it!
@@BuySellCarsTV it won't be. Companies buy them new and replace them at 3 years old. It will have had at least 2, but more likely 3/4 owners at 5 years old, and at least 1 of those owners will have bought it without realising running and maintenance costs. It will have been skimped on somewhere down that chain. Between the age of 5/7 years old, the car will need crippling servicing and repair costs. Unless you are willing to pick up regular bills of £2'000/£3'000/£4'000 double that and more if needs an engine at 80k miles like loads of them do, then steer well clear of used Range Rover Vogue. They will 100% let you down at some stage.

We used to call them the £500 cars, its now the £1000 car, because that's the minimum you'll spend on one, every time it's in for work. The title says "SDV6" so this is not an Ingenium 6 cylinder 3.0 engine, but the Ford/PSA engine that is known to spin it's big end bearings, resulting in oil starvation to the bearing surfaces causing overheating that eventuates into a snapped crankshaft.
To be honest, 100,000kms and 5 years is not old, and you wouldn't expect 'catastrophic' problems with this car, although it can happen. I find a lot of these videos : 'trust JLR' cause I have one and havn't had any problems' is either luck or just the features of the car: number of KMS and how old it is. They have a bad reputation for a reason and the Ingenium engine is just yet another JLR F*** up. If you're rich, buy new, take the hit on the depreciation and then sell it on when the warranty is out. If not, BUYER BEWARE.

15 plate Merc C Class bluetec 2:1 diesel. £20 road tax 58 to 60 mpg allday long motorway, never less than 40mpg. Just checked average for last 8000 miles 45mpg job done.
