What went wrong? 30,000 mile brutally honest review of the Royal Enfield Himalayan. I talk about the good the bad and the ugly when it comes to real world ownership of a Royal Enfield Himalayan Motorcycle What do I like? What have I repaired or replaced? Dealership? Enfield Recovery? Parts? I discuss these issues and more in this video and touch on why I now have another motorbike.
30.000 Mile 48,000 Kilometer review of a Himalayan used in all conditions.

Nice to see a ''propper'' road test on a mororcycle .30,000 miles is a meaningfull test of what a machine is realy like rather than a half hour or even a 3 week assesment .Well done .;-)

Perfect summary: for me you've highlighted all the key issues very well. This bike is all about the mindset. It's slow, brakes are ropey and it looks like an old landrover but it all works if you don't expect too much. Love touring on mine I find it very relaxing to ride. All the best Richard

Front brake easy to get working with a set of EBC brake pads. Transforms the stopping and eliminates the need for a crystal ball.

Intake, exhaust, cam, and ecu really open up the bike. Throttle response and 5HP gain. A 40t rear sprocket and the bike becomes even more lively.

A very fair and honest review on that mileage for the RE Himalayan. If the maintenance and checks are carried out correctly and timely, I believe the RE Himalayan can serve a rider very well over a long period. Like any Motorcycle depending on type of usage and Terrain, wear and tear will manifest itself over time which is normal. As you pointed out and proved in your videos many times, maintenance and attention to any unusual noise and doing something about it makes all the difference. Also upgrades to Bulbs and brake pads and good quality branded Tyres for the type of riding, is the key to riding free issues also spares for long trips. Again another clear and concise review after regular Himalayan riding and also putting in some long rides. I would also like more power from my Himalayan but as you rightly state at the speeds the bike is capable of, you don't miss much on the journey. Thanks again for a really great review.

My youngest son and his partner, both riding Himmys, did 15,000 miles round Europe in 2022. Thirty five countries over four months doing their own servicincg and tyre changes as they went along. Interesting vid. I’ve mentioned a few times myself on various forums about the headlamp brightness being affected by the glare of the dashboard but no one has ever commented on that. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Himalayan. I only have a tenth the mileage you do and mine still feels brand new. But I agree with your comment on if you need to rely on a backstreet mechanic, the Himalayan is simple enough that almost any mechanic can handle it. Time will tell if there are any issues to emerge on mine but so far it's been great.

Hi. Thanks for the channel. If you want to experiment with led headlight bulbs, there's a company called classic car leds that do h4 bulbs, direct fit and work with standard refectors. They come in different colour temperatures so you can avoid the blinding white light, which is counter productive in rain and fog anyway. You can get one's that are the same colour as halogen and when the main beam is on the dip remains lit, which is nice. Around £30. Also use less power than a halogen.

watch this because it is honest. I have exactly the same bike and mine has done 10,000 miles. Replaced the bars as they bent after dropping the bike - they bend easily. My clocks also mist up. The front brake is CRAP - I fitted the softest pads I could find and now I have a decent front brake. left over time the battery drains, which means you cannot start the bike. I used a Hitchcocks device to stop that but even now it is always on a trickle charger at home. I replaced the battery with a YUASA and on my trip to Scotland, 9 days (no trickle charger obviously) had no issues. I replaced the relays rather than have issues - too many people complained for me not to take action. On putting in the new relays one of the pins popped out the back of the housing and caused me some issues before I spotted it. Normal riding I baby it sitting at 50 ish - in 8000 miles I never burnt any oil or had to adjust the tappets. My Scotland trip was 2000 miles. First day was two up at 70 MPH for 230 miles in the rain. The wind got up later in the trip and I had to ride in lower gears to maintain momentum. In short she got a good thrashing. This meant that she burnt some oil and needed tappets adjusting upon my return. I broke down 3 times whilst away - all down to the rear brake - it was not allowing fluid to return back into the cylinder so my brake overheated and stuck on. Could not fix it myself and had a mechanic look at it - he said it could have happened to any bike. On a good note when I was running it in I got 100MPG at 40 MPH. 90 MPG at 50 MPH. Both these figures were bringing the bike from St Helens to South Lincs where I live. MOST IMPORTANT The suspension is outstanding for a bike of this size and price. My wife has a bad back and gave up being a pillion. She went for a ride on it as pillion and we did the NC 500 - 2000 miles in 9 days - no ill affects at all. So many thanks wee jaunt for some honesty - The bike is marmite - you either love em or hate em. The Foggster

Just wondering how long you'd leave it to find the battery drained. My Ducati does the same thing. If left for a week without a trickle charger it's a gamble. Is this normal for modern bikes (prior to the Ducati my most modern bike was a '79 bonnie) what with EFI systems and imobilisers etc?
@DirkGentley42
@DirkGentley42 2 месяца назад
That's seriously good fuel consumption and nice to hear from an actual owner. I'm impressed with the 70 two up. Although i quite like the idea of the Himalayan, my main concern is that I'll find it slightly lacking in cruising speed. I tend not to like having to cane a bike for long, and just wished the Himalayan was 10-15 miles an hour quicker. I'm planning on getting an interceptor, but that seems a big jump from the nice, basic, rugged, Himalayan. I guess the 450 is an alternative,but for some reason that just don't have the same appeal as the 411. Have you tried any performance mods at all?

The dutch lady (Itchy Boots) finding that the Himalayan is too heavy, is under powered, (The weight of a Yamaha T7 with 1/3 of the power...) with not so good suspensions has taken a Honda CRFL 300 Rally. I'm not sure it's the best choice as the Honda has simply bad suspensions (you can improve the fork but you have to change ASAP the rear shock), lacks cruelly of power and it's not so light. She spent 2700 USD on a already expensive bike, trying to address the suspensions and other issues. The ideal ADV light bike would have good 250 mm suspensions, something around 40 HP very sweet and linear, and stay under 140 kg dry. There are rare in the actual market.

It's not about doing 100 mph, it's about having adequate power to accelerate along with modern traffic and given this bikes lack of power a slight headwind or uphill gradient and it will struggle. This bike has a lower power to weight ratio of a 125 and there's a reason why you don't see 125s on the motorway.

I'm know where near as adventurous as you are, on my RE Himaleyan 411. I do short touring trips and a lot of commuting / sunday riding. I honestly can't fault my Himaleyan, It has its annual full service and MOT and has flown through the past couple of times. It's like any machine. If you thrash it and take it off the road or on extremely long tours, it's going to suffer. The only issue I really had was the front break being a bit shit, but honestly, it's not noticeable until you've really mullered the pads. I usually notice my front break going just before its annual maintenance (service and MOT). The console fog has never happened to me. Mine have always stayed clear and un fogged. Overall its a amazing bike, and my first after passing my A2, I plan on owning it a fair few years yet.

For a BMW GS with cardan drive, you may need the third shaft at 50,000 km. I personally know two GS owners where this has happened, probably also depends on the skill of the specialist workshop during maintenance? In my V-Strom was at 30,000 km the gear indicator defective, the machine then no longer wants to start, unless you shift before „dry“ about 10 times up and down, you must then also know 😱

Replaced the kickstand on my 2022 as it bent with normal use.. ( Hitchcocks adjustable stand much heavier ) Battery died within 1st year replace with Lithium Battery so far so good...Replaced all the relays... Had to adjust the TPS a couple times to fix stalling / idle issues. Forget the dealership here in Texas, this is a bike for people that are mechanically inclined... Reminds me of my bikes in the 1970's... Quality control is lacking as all the rubber hoses and fork boots are falling apart.... I do all my own Maint. and it is very simple. As everyone says for the price you get a great bike that is not built for the Highways here in the US but great around town, secondary roads and dirt roads...For all it's faults I still like it... just do not get one thinking you can just ride and forget it... My brakes are ok for the speeds it is capable of and except for the ABS not always working before the Tires skid they are good. Lol...

The one thing that would put me off ever buying a RE is the woeful performance, according to motorcycle specs the 0-60 time is over 10 seconds, I actually checked other sources thinking that couldn't possibly be right but one site claimed 12.7 seconds? That's waaay too slow to be safe on British roads and considering the top speed is just over 80 mph motorways are definitely a no no, fully loaded with a modest head wind you will be overtaken by hgvs, no, sod that.

For freeway fliers the Himmi falls short, for others it can't do anything right.. for animistic riders that avoid the beaten path and insist in bonding with their almost human mule, it's a winner! 😆

Aye 12k on a clutch is dire it was burned at 2k tbh and lasted another 10 before replacing. The new one has done 18k so far.

Henry 8th was English. James 4th was king of Scotland at that time. 1500’s. Scotland a completely different country to England. It was the Treaty of Union in 1707 that created the Kingdom of Great Britain. The United Kingdom came about in 1801 when Nirthern Ireland joined in. Many accents and across the UK. Just like in the US or Australia. Someone from New York sounds completely different to a Texan for example.
