It appears that they may well be an access mode button, just ahead of the electric window switches, can be seen at 10:59 … can anyone confirm that’s what this is? Seems to be a different symbol to usual. Anyway, if that is the case, my apologies! I can’t believe I missed it… Thank you all so much for watching, liking, sharing and commenting!

@@henrymouland02 We've had all new Range Rovers since 1989 and the last owner survey offered was on our first 2014 L405. Nothing on the follow up 2017 model or our current one bought in 2021. Is the survey, that you are referring to, on the LR website? If so, where?

It seems the way all the companies are going. I have a VW and the cruise control is the same, touch sensitive controls on the steering wheel. They’ve removed the intuitive stalk that used to be just behind the steering wheel which you knew what it was doing, every button and movement was physical and tactile and now it’s just a plain gloss black plastic panel. I have to look at the panel every time, the controls aren’t as functional and easy as they used to be and it’s taking up a space on the wheel that should be used for other functions. Not only that.. it’s piano black like the Range Rover so it just looks greasy and covered with fingerprints all the time! We want physical controls! No touch and swipe rubbish or hiding everything on a screen. This is becoming a safety issue IMO. All climate/assist settings on the screen is a pain in the arse. Thanks for your time 😂

Glad you appreciate it, I also don’t remember seeing anyone say much negative about the new model. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still pretty much the best car in the world, but there are some small issues which coming from the older models do annoy you
@severnsea
@severnsea Год назад
Probably because others don't view them as a problem? New cars often have sticky buttons and take a while to get them set up to your preference, especially something as complex as this, so for me it's never an ideal time to post a useability review. I'd rather see a review a few months after somebody has lived with it, and things have "worn in" a little.

Bought an L460 Autobiography in Velocity Blue a couple of months ago (after starting my RR ownership with a classic in 1992) - interesting review but you missed out some important issues, albeit this model has improved several of the software defects found in the (my) previous 2019 model. Firstly, to clarify, there is an access mode switch on the driver's door armrest. Problem-wise, the gear selection lever works backwards way around (in common with pretty much every other current JLR product) - you push it forwards to go backwards and pull it backwards to go forwards! Who at JLR thought that was a good idea??? When doing a rapid 3-point turn the gear selection change from forwards to reverse is not nearly responsive enough which quite often leads me to shooting off in the wrong direction. The adaptive cruise control gap adjust is also backwards - you press the top button to reduce the gap and the bottom button to increase the gap - completely counter-intuitive! Worse though, is the algorithm used to control the adaptive cruise control which inspires no confidence whatsoever, to the extent that I never use it without my foot covering the brake pedal. This is particularly bad in what JLR term Queue Assist Mode (i.e. crawling motorway traffic) The system seems to look only at the absolute distance to the car in front and if the gap is increasing then the car accelerates, sometimes very abruptly and then, when it senses that the gap is decreasing, it brakes, also sometimes quite abruptly and quite late. What the algorithm doesn't seem to do is to look at the rate of change of the gap to determine how quickly it should (or shouldn't) accelerate and when to brake and nor does there seem to be very much (any) hysteris built into the system (i.e. as soon as the gap opens a little the vehicle accelerates rather than waiting to see if the gap widening continues or reduces because the car in front is now braking again). Agree completely with your comments on the seat adjust switches - JLR saving money by eleiminating physical switches, but on a £140k+ car - come on! One feature missing completely on the car is the ability to programme the rate of acceleration when using cruise control. Most often the car sets off like a bat out of hell until it reaches set speed, often encompassing one or more downchanges. I would like to be able to regulate this with say, three settings for acceleration. Finally, in case anyone from JLR actually reads this, my new L460 is the second RR in a row that has been delivered with the steering wheel offset at an angle with the wheels pointing straight ahead - whatever happened to factory QC and dealership PDI's?!
@Bluebottle_GB

Biggest issues with all range rovers here in the UK is insurance prices and thefts. There’s now only a handful of companies that will insure a land rover products and those that do charge an absolute fortune. So many of these cars getting stolen because the poor security system, kids can literally steal these cars in seconds and JLR simply aren’t interested, this has always been the issue with JLR, same with quality problems, the lack of care. Plus the dealer network for the most part is difficult to deal with. Such a shame as the cars are simply stunning 🇬🇧

I have a new D350 Sport, no problem insuring. Try Admiral. Mine was under £400. Also you get a Thatcham 5 tracker free for first 12 months, or when ordering its about £350 for three years. That is seriously cheap. JLR gas also issued a free software update for most of their older cars which specifically addresses theft. My 2019 Velar was recalled for it. So in all fairness JLR are addressing the issues.

What a great review. As a long term L322 owner, this is much more informative than the normal overviews. In the end it is all the little niggles that can make or break a car when you own it and at this price point they really need to up their game to compete with Bentley and Rolls et all. I hope LR are listening to the potential software issues, unfortunately they did not make the most of the driver screen in the 2010 model despite their launch marketing videos which never materialised in the real car, and have not updated the software since, so their short-termist view might also be an issue here.

I'm on my second L460, first was P400, current car P440e, car on order another P400, the 400kg of batteries in the P440 is really noticeable when driving, the P400 is much nicer ride. The current car is my 6th RR in a row and this version is a positive quantum leap on the previous model. It is by far the most desirable 4x4 on the road, friends with Bentayga, G-Wagon, etc. do say the problem with their car is it isn't a Range Rover. Some of the functionality eg air vents and ride height are a bit of a faff to adjust, but they are minor in comparison to the drive and manoeuvrability of this model.

Very nice vehicle. I ordered a new one, in the UK (circa£110k),to replace my 2020 model but I had to cancel it and ask for the return of my deposit because it was impossible to get it insured. The keyless system is too easy for thieves to clone and then steal the vehicle. So insurance companies in the UK are refusing to insure Range Rovers. Land Rover are aware of the problem but seem to be ambivalent. Had to go to Audi Q7 Vorsprung which is also a great car and cost15k less

Enjoyed the review. I have a D300 Discovery and it's one of the quietest engines I've ever come across, so surprised it felt noisy in the RR. Had a couple of new RR's recently as loan cars and was also surprised how few options there are to configure the display. The Disco has more flexibility. Also on the wheel buttons, the D5/Defender have matt plastic and they seem to work all the time, no misses as you had. I also wasn't so keen on the haptic feedback, I found I had to press harder than normal and often had to do it twice taking my eye off the road to make sure. Even Apple dropped this on the iPhone so I'm not sure it's better. Finally, on the new model year, the rotary AC controls are sadly gone, and moved to the main touch screen. It's not the way forward IMO.

Hi Joel, a really interesting review. I have one of these, I ordered it on the launch day and I've had her nearly a year now. D300 MHEV HSE Belgravia Green, Caraway interior. I found some of your comments pretty interesting, but the complete opposite of my vehicle. As you say, there is an access button on the door to lower the suspension, I checked the finish around my steering wheel and it's completely smooth, no sharp edges. The buttons on my steering wheel function immediately, no lag whatsoever. I think you may of been unlucky with the car you borrowed, throttle response on mine is instant, no lag plus my engine is whisper quiet, when I heard the engine on yours it sounds like a tractor, something not right there. When mine is up to temperature and you get out and listen to the engine, quite frankly it's barley audible. However, I really enjoyed your review, good to hear someone's honest opinion. As you say though, what a car, this is now my fourth Range Rover on the trot, and this is in a different league to all the predecessors. All the best, Simon ps - My Rangie has performed two over the air updates in the last 6 months, so maybe these have helped with various glitches.

Insightful review thanks. I know exactly what you mean about the steering just off centre when cruising. I used to work for JLR and drove their vehicles in a quality control role. I worked on 18 model year L405 and the other vehicles in this period mostly. This artificial weighting really irritated me. It was much less evident in the Jags but noticeable on all the D7u platform. I wish I had taken this up with the relevant engineers especially now I know it is still evident. I think it is programmed into the steering software to give a sense of stability at speed partly because of the fashion for quick steering which could make the car a bit sensitive to steering inputs at speed. Getting back into my old banger after a days driving the JLR products was an eye opener. The steering felt so alive, natural and responsive in the straight ahead position. The steering wheel buttons and slow throttle/ gearbox response from standing were a well known issues then. Shame these issues have not been worked through.

Nothing screams more money than sense than when the guns turn up driving a Range Rover 🙄 Standard joke on Pheasant shoots across the country 😄 Usually signals a long day 🙄 for the pickers up and beaters. 🙄 as 90% of the guns who drive these couldn’t hit a cows ass with a shovel , and are in the shooting field just to say they shoot 🙄 They drive a Range Rover as they think it’s the vehicle that suits the image ( usually with private plates) to hide how old the vehicle really is 😄 Range Rover, toad of toad hall hat, and the funny socks, always a giggle 🤭

So ... there are hundreds of features and gizmos for the aspiring RU-vidr class to haggle over and pretend to be disappointed in whilst in front of a camera, all for the entrance cost of a flat or an average rural home. Here's the brutal truth: the Range Rover brand died after the P38. As unreliable as that vehicle was, it was the last iteration to really split the duties between being a capable working vehicle trimmed up as a luxury car. From the L322 onward the marque is just the world's heaviest and costliest Subaru. As for the L460 - I don't know where to start about how pretentious and unnecessary this abomination is, whether that be the size and the weight, the delicate piano gloss screens and finishings everywhere, just waiting - nay, begging! - to be scratched, or the outlandishly fraudulent figures about the rear leg room. Let's look at a comparison to one of my RRs forever ago, a 1994 LWB County (Long Wheel Base). Compared to the 2024 model the LWB weighed 1,000 lbs less, had 10" less wheelbase, was 16" shorter (that's nearly a foot and half!), at least 7" narrower, and 1" shorter in height (assuming standard ride height from the air suspension, of which it had also). This vehicle was already difficult to park in US sized parking garages - I can't imagine what life is like with this new model, except to say that I suppose it's a problem for a hired driver. Despite those more svelte figures, the LWB still had 1" more front leg room than this "car", and on paper, about 1/2" less rear legroom. The thing that gets me is that the rear bench of my LWB nearly had space for a small cocktail table in the back, and yet the photographs and videos of this new vehicle show the back seat nearly touching the front. Are they counting the distance underneath the seat, now? Who are they trying to fool? And offroad was proper offroad - fitted with sensical aftermarket ARB air lockers front and back, traction was never a problem in my LWB, and the way that truck - yes, a body-on-frame truck, wore its winch up front on it looked like wearing a nice pair of black leather hunting boots with a tuxedo. I've never seen a model past the L322 fitted with a winch, nor can I imagine fitting one. Or a front locker, for that matter. So: Range Rover product managers, where are you? Why did you abandon everyone who isn't an oil sheik or social media influencer? Where is the Hunter model for those of us who use their vehicles for something else than pretending to be rich? The brand has become irrelevant and pathetic.

Range Rover has the ultimate SUV design. They should make the ultimate luxury product. Take inspiration from the new Bugatti Tourbillon with the beautifully analog interior with no plastic and dials inspired by luxury watches.

Good review Joel, fair criticisms in the main. The 2024 one with no buttons or dials...sadly can only be attributed to cost cutting...but it's still a fabulous car!

I reviewed my own L460 P510e here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uElzrQ2KYw8.html Fully agree with your key points such as the complex PiviPro and the rubbish steering wheel controls. And yet the car is fantastic. JLR just needs to fix these minor details to make the perfect luxury SUV. And yes, the access control button is still there, ca 2cm from the side mirror adjustment.

The screens are total rubbish i have similar set up in audi SQ7. Im not buying another car with significant amout of controls in screens or touch buttons. This RR is a total non starter for me. Ian Callum revealed recently (in an FT article) that designers and engineers resisted these screens, but these cars are being designed by marketing teams now who think its a good idea and over rule people who know what they're talking about.

Really good and balanced review I've recently spend a lot of time behind the wheel of a p38 generation and it defently has that character that gets under your skin a bit sad to hear that the new gen is missing that. As the touch sensitive button I share the frustaration I experienced them on a new gen evoque and they were terrible. About the throttle response though the long throttle travel is range rover hallmark as it heps to contol the car better offroading

I have had the 2023 D350 HSE and now the 2024 AUTO P530. Both are a joy on the motorway. I`ve done long runs of over 600 miles in both and both cars are mega smooth. The HSE D350 a little more I`d say than the petrol plus its wayyyy more economical on fuel (if you`re bothered). A very expensive car but so far my experiences have been positive.
