Brutally Honest Review of Tower of Fantasy by a Genshin Impact Player 

As a genshin player i really appreciate that you use genshin for certain comparisons without shitting on the game like a lot of people online ive seen do. I genuinely don't mind people who like tof better than genshin, it's a preference and whatever you like is none of my business, we can all just chill with what we like (if i didn't have storage problems i genuinely would've tried out tof too bc it looked fun). But some people have resorted to trashing genshin and genshin enjoyers completely just bc they were dissatisfied with the game and have moved on to tof, as if genshin players weren't valid or smth. I appreciate you pointing out the difference between genshin being a single player casual game with occasional coop elements while tof is an mmorpg bc some people just couldn't seem to comprehend that

That's the fairest review I've seen of ToF, it is just fun, and yeah Genshin Impact was such a huge budget kind of Single Player Experience, that to even get close to it as an indie, even if somewhat janky and some excessively bumpy reputation, at least it is still fun to play. It does remind me of the PSO2 that I've known and love that had sadly has went into Maintenance mode currently giving way for New Genesis.

For the meta Global is completely different from CN You can notice this when you see the nerf of frigg Dash atack nerfed from 257% of atk to 143% of atk And her skill and constalation buffs are nerfed or gone Global is more balanced

Currently I'm a retired bench in player, but this is an excellent review this was fair and it didn't shit on bench in nor tof game and gave good criticism and feedback, hopefully hotta will eventually get around to reworking the story, animation, and sounds/voice. I do wanna mention that a couple of others mentioned that global will be more balanced thankfully and will prevent the current roster in standard banner from being completely out of meta. Additionally hotta will also keep the updates close to CN then merge it eventually. Hope you enjoy the game in the future as it improves and more new content is added

Hi, a few things, standard banner has two kinds one you buy use black nucleus to pull(no pity of this one) and the other you use gold nucleus to pull,(with pity system at 80) each gold nucleus pull on standard banner gives you one black gold, as you mentioned 120 you can buy a weapons in shop but only a duplicates of ones you already own(good for increasing weapon star level). The black gold equivalent on limited banner is flame gold, you need same amount(120) but don't need to have weapon already to buy it, also flame gold converts to black gold at end of limited character/weapon event so need to do 120 pulls during that time to buy it outright otherwise as you said 50% chance on pity, thanks for the video. :)

I've been looking for a review that neither shits on the game nor acts like they're being paid to advertise it for a while now, good job man. I think there's a lot of things that will likely affect the game's longevity but overall, it's just as you said. It's a fun game to pass the time with until we can see where it goes or if it does well. Only time will tell if we'll be as invested in it in the future, I guess.

What i dislike the most is that SR units are completely worthless, especially when you can get a lot of SSR really quickly. They are not even considered in tier lists. In every other gacha game I've played, low rarity units are somewhat good, not every unit but at least a couple are good and in some cases they are better options than some high rarity ones. Even Hilda, who has like 16 Shatter at max stars (the highest in game right now), is not that good compared to an SSR with like 11.

Best review I seen of the game so far. Playing this since global release, I can agree on pretty much everything. The imbalance in characters - huge gaps from SR to SSR and even then within SSR themselves - combined with the pay to win, is already digging grave for this game. What can be tolerated in singleplayer collectible like Genshin, will bury this MMO.

Personally I prefer playing different characters or weapons for the sake of testing out play styles, but genshin is a pain when it comes to that as you won't be able to get a huge football team of characters easily, a lot of grind is associated to it. I like the story the graphics and the combat but not the grind, playing genshin like an hour a day is not going to progress anything. TOF in the other hand is slightly more generous in terms of pulls, I already got like 6 ssrs as a ftp player. I use to play a gatcha game called tower of saviors and I'm already use to their collection of cards, not a few but thousands of cards and it was fun until the power creep taken over the game, this is why I felt empty as there's only so few characters in these games nowadays and the combinations of the team that you can build is so limited. If others can build the same team but better than mine why do I even need to build it in the first place, what is the point?

So I came from a shorts' video talking about anniversary rewards compared with this game. Honestly I think I could have go in blindly but I didn't want to get invested or waste my time.... Honestly this sounds like a good review. Is it weird if I ask what are your thoughts on honkai impact? Like I'm been wondering if I should try it. My biggest concern was how much heat get the conversations between honkai and genshin fans are... But Idk? Things I don't like in ToF are the SR unit. They are so insignificant even when you 6 star it. In Genshin at least the 4 star full cons unit are able to compete with 5 star 0 cons.

I spent 550 and will never leave this game anymore. I have a full time job and can pay for one 6 Star weapon. That’s all I need. Will use an SR as third weapon and will wait until I get my Tsubasa to 6 Star normally. After that, I might whale again in 6 months for Nemesis (because I want my Volt Meta Healer). If you’re fine with not being the best there ever was, it’s quite easy to just throw Vitality into Omnion Beacons everyday, then put them down in bulk and wait for them to pop. I found the earlier bits hard to keep up with in my schedule, but now that the story is on hold… I can just max my current weapons and do what I want. SR weapons aren’t as weak as one might assume. They are just harder to handle.

I will admit this game is fun, definitely still needs polishing. The grind is the name of the game but, you need to wait HOURS for boss resets. WEEKS to buy the most valuable items. POWER CREEP is always changing so if you don't stay up on it you will get dusted. Reward system is kind a meh. Still a fun game just very very time locked.

Here's my thought on your video, I agree alot with everything you said, I do think you should keep your language more user friendly (less bad words) to keep it on the same tone as your nice explanation, all good though, they just seemed out of place to me since you have a nice voice in this video. That said good review!

Overall i agree with all your points especially when it comes to the game lacking any uniqueness. I played Genshin for a couple of months and took a break because i just got bored with it, until recently picking up Tower of Fantasy. Genshin is by all means the golden child when it comes to gacha games and as a game in general, it’s beautiful environment, its story and its immaculate character design is astonishing. For me while ToF lacks uniqueness and is fairly janky when it comes to controls and gameplay, I’m having an amazing time simply because i love both genres of games, mmorpg and gacha. Hopefully in the future they will pay more attention to Character design and the gameplay. ToF’s character design is not horrible by any means but is sort of just there because its there iykwim. When it come to the combat it doesn’t feel bad, i think its pretty good in all honesty, but i want the combat to feel smoother, idk how to explain it but the combat could be a lot better than it is right now. Ultimately we’re just gonna have to wait for a year or 2 to really see whats in store and hopefully ToF is successful by then.

I try it before GI 3.0 and yes it not worth. I decide to play MMO with server stable and connection otherwise u will get mad when playing. most of time i farm mobs and they teleport away from me. 😕 I play until lvl. 35 and leave.

I’ll also say I left Genshin around Inazuma because I felt the co op and social aspect and just decided it wasn’t the game for me. ToF scratches that social itch in games I’ve always enjoyed being able to cooperate with your team or just fuck around in the world. I will say ToF is kinda splitting away from the GI killer mindset and Implementing some of the silliest but funniest shit I’ve seen in an MMO

It is a fair review. (my opinion) It has room to grow, but it all depends on the developers. I am having fun right now (50+ and only put in like $50), but I agree. There is an element that I am fighting that I do not want to be "left behind" but my family and my wallet takes priority ;) (darn those monthly bills)

What hurts more when someone Shames you on damage in a pay to win game is when you get shamed on for damage and there is no pay to win aspects(cod,Val,apex), let it be pay to win so i have a reason to cope by pretending it’s the money and not my trash gamer skills

I agree that combat sounds are not good but overall while I was exploring the world I enjoyed the rest of the sounds quite much. Also from what I saw in your video you clearly not read any weapon skill description, did you? XD There are quite a few variations (like dash forward attack, dash backward attack, aerial attacks, aerial charged attack, charged attacks) and also, this early in the game you don't notice but now at level 50 it starts to materialise that against different shields/bosses/monsters you will need different weapons to use or you will absolutely suck. Also, relics can be put in 3 set and you can equip 6 different one for combat which is actually a key part of mid and endgame. The reason you did not notice this is prob cuz you're still level 44 as I see in the vid. Also bosses at this level ofc has trash attacks and stuff, as you reach higher levels and bosses become harder they will start to use different skills and attacks, some which can oneshot you if you don't do something. Bygone Phantasm actually have different leagues and top 10 is going in a higher one with better rewards. About P2W, you can compete as F2P if you're a little smart, just save for 1 JUST 1 set of SSR matrice and 1 SSR dps weapon which you 6*. It will take time? Sure. But doable? Absolutely. I already halfway to achieve that tho now that i'm done with exploring this will slow down. About genshin I just want to say that they're a billion $ company and they're reusing animations in cutscenes and character combat moves, so you praising that part just didn't make any sense. Oh and lastly characters actually has their own story missions. Anyway I started to main ToF cuz genshin (even tho i'm playing it daily) is just not a game made to be a main, even with events I mostly finish daily content in half a hour, so ToF is my salvation.

It's slowly becoming a better Metaverse in CN and they just completely ditched the whole genshin thing which I respect.

One quick comment, in PVP, they do balance between whales and F2P. Other than than, yeah, I have the same feelings and reservations. For now, global is fun.

I played ToF for around 2 hrs until I decided to just uninstall it, the game was just too boring for me to handle in its early game, maybe I'd get into it in the later stages I dunno but the game already lost me that its just not worth it.

What I hate about ToF, they released the game with bugs and not entitled it as bugs that are soon to be fixed. SR are worthless and I don't understand why they still put it on gacha, meanwhile in GI 4 star is a 5 star level at certain aspects but not fully. The story is a hard skip, honestly nothing special, it feels like you are doing a non stop comission. Lack of synergy with weapons, it's just basic switching and catching enemies. Whale does 5x your damage, which me feels like a side character.

"Genshin Killer". Lmao TOF just played that card so I am not giving them any symphathy for playing that card. You want attention, you got it so live up to that expectation. TOF will be forever tied down to Genshin comparison for that stunt they pulled and everything will always come back to Genshin. So yes, its not about GI being a single player(coop sometimes) and TOF being a mmo. They themselves decided to be paired up with genshin and so far they are not even close.

People buy story skips for ff14 because they're ignorant of what kind of game it is or have the attention span and IQ of a lemming. The main draw of FF14 is the story which is better than the vast majority of Triple A single player RPGs currently out there. So to pay money for the game and then to pay even more for the subscription and then to pay even more for multiple story skips takes a really "special" kind of gamer.

meh, the biggest issue i have with this game is that it lack substance, it had potential but they decided to go with the gacha way, which is plain terrible for an mmo with pvp. I will stay and keep grinding artefacts in genshit impact, and i don't really want to dig into another mmo outside of ffxiv, Maybe if the game improve or massively change in some way i will give it another chance. Not counting that the company is related to tencent and perfect world.. this is a goddamn big ass red flag. Now if they have no influence when it come to the global version of the game it can be another story. At least this game is way more generous than gacha impact, but who know.. genshin was also very generous during the 1.x period.

this is only my opinion but this game is dogshit First: the quick time events are just done carelessly like you don't even need to press any button and there will ne no consequence at all everything will just happen like normal, is nothing more then a cutscene but you can press button if so then why don't they just make a cutscene instead of a quick time event? SECOND: the game give you 3 main weapons for you to use and to change them you need to press Q, E and R i don't know what kind of genius think of this so i change my first weapon to 1, my second weapon to 2 and my third weapon to 3 and then i go to the character menu to change the weapon and guess what when i press 3 it change to the third weapon ok but when i press 2 it change to my first weapon and when i press 1 it change to my second weapon so your first or main weapon is the weapon in the middle in the character menu like if you want everyone to know atleast make it more outstanding like make it bigger Third: did you notice that in the settings the letter are very high resolution but he the on, off button, the slider button are very dimmed that because the game itself was originally defined for mobile first so they only design the buttons at a fixed resolution to make high resolution on mobile but when it came to pc they don't even fix it like saying it's not worth to worrying about for me this just proof that the designers don't care about their user experience even tho is not a big problem but like a spider's web that is not cleaned, it looks very itchy Fourth: the ladder climbing, ican't express to you how much i hate the ladder climbing in this game, in this game you can't even climb a ladder when you climb a ladder you can't press the jump button to go up or jump on ladder to climb no if you want to climb a ladder you gotta go to the ladder and your character will start climbing and you know what the worst part is? you can't even climb to the end of the ladder like if you can't even make a good escalation mechanism then how are you going to make a good game? Five: the npc voiceover is one of the worst voiceover i ever heard in a video game like when people ast zake to kill his sister there was like a crowd there and it sound like there only 2 people not even talking but wispering to kill, i kinda know why imagine you at home and start screaming kill it, don't let it live then how are your family and neighbor thinks about you, yeah it's pretty cringe but this just proves that the casting of voice actors is not important and they just randomly recruited with a small amount of money, when the quality is like this and in the original china version is the same but at least they not whispering even if the plot is touching, if the voice acting is like this, all of the emotion will fade away and if you ast me about the story i say it's pretty good even some part i like SIX: the time gates thing is the thing that i hate the most in the entire a game in the first day you logged on you can only get to the lever 12 and every exp you earn after that will be useless the problem is that the time gate is calculated per account, not the server which mean that even if the server was creative 3 days ago but you logged on by the third day you can only get to level 18 but tower of fantasy is a open world game and you should explore the world right? well the problem is that there are chest that give you exp and killing monster obviously give you exp then all of that exp will go to trash but even the chest can only be open by specific time in a day like it just stop your spirit of discovery EIGTH: the mmo of this game are heavily vandalized because of hacks and bug like last year a china player role a ssr weapon but because of the weak internet he got disconected and when he logged back on he can't use that and he report back the bug to the suporter and even has a video to prove and they fix it by delete his whole gacha history is like delete the evidence but then other player start noticing the logic of the bug that when you roll something and you disconected the game will cancelled that roll and people repeat that over and over ultil they get a ssr and so the game developer also noticing the bug and immediate maintenance and send all players 10 roll gacha the problem is it only fix in the gacha roll so player repeat this bug by claim the award and disconected and claim it again so each tme they do it they got 10 roll gacha and for some reason hotta doesn't ban people who are doing that and so this made alot of paid and grind people angry this is one of the main reason this game is dead in china and have to go to global to save itseft but as we all know it doen't get much better but the main problem that this game is dead in china is because of it histiry of stealing like in the character introduction video posted on January 27th we can see a minor character whose sword on his back was stolen from honkai impact but that only the small one the big one is the trailer was strealing from a mv and after that the rating go down to 3 star and guess what they done, they buy review from other game and half of them are from genshin impact so inthe end this is a dogshit game and no one should ever touch this game in there entire life

The BIG difference is that Genshin pushes you to spend money that’s the reason why I stop playing a year and half ago, while ToF doesn’t, I’ve been playing f2p for a half a year and still planning to bc it’s a fun game just to chilling in party and chat with friends while playing

To add on the plagiarism, the time slow mechanic is a direct copy of the time fracture mechanic from honkai impact , the most iconic feature of honkai . Theirs literally no other game I have seen that has the same mechanic as honkai .

Despite having that many flaws, the gameplay loop is enjoyable enough for people to spend time in, Which probably at least the only thing they're doing way better than genshin. This is a game, a gacha even, not a visual novel. Nobody paying few hundred grand to go watch a cutscene. No amount of polish can save you if your gameplay loop is a total joke. But powercreep tho, That's gonna be a huge turn off, especially for an MMO, So I'm also doubt the game can go any further than they are. Unless they're doing it really well to balance it

Gigachad playing both here. I absolutely hate how time consuming ToF is and the story is complete ass. I just dont understand why I keep playing it. It keeps me from going deepdive in Genshin and 100 percenting Sumeru in a week. It does its job of killing time while Genshin lacks content. I hope it gets way better in 2.0.

They should just take out PvP entirely. There is no way you’d ever get a fair fight unless both parties are on the same level functionally. Only if Skill is the deciding factor.
